Can someone tell me about the hotel circle area in San Diego. We have reservations in June at the Days Inn. Are there lots of restaurants and shopping where we could get out and walk from the hotel? I would just like and idea as to what is in the area around our hotel. We will be going to the zoo and Seaworld during the day and now I am trying to come up with some stuff for the evenings. We are not nightclub/bar people so that kind of stuff is out.

I can't picture exactly where the Days Inn is on hotel circle. Hotel circle is really big and it is on both sides of a freeway so there is probably not a lot you could walk to, but there is a lot a short cab ride away. There are 2 malls Fashion Valley (high end with a bunch of restaurants and movie theater) and Mission Valley Center (a few restaurants, shops and movie theater). Old town isn't far away where you can find really great Mexican food. Downtown (the Gaslamp) is also a very short cab ride where you can find tons of great restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops. The Gaslamp is a great place to people watch :) From the embarcadero downtown you can also catch a dinner cruises, which is always nice. You are coming in June so you might be able to catch a Padre game. The new stadium is really nice. It's right downtown so it's fun to go to a nice dinner then walk over to the game.

If I can help in any other way, let me know. You are going to love San Diego!

I think I will just start sending you PM's when I have questions :)

We will have a rental car so we will be able to drive places. I just don't want to venture to far because I am afraid we will get lost  We love mexican food though so will be on the search for some place we can't get that. I am sure the hotels will have some good maps to help us get around also.

MrsGrumpy - we just returned from 5 nights in San Diego - the one thing my husband and I found was that it is very easy to drive around in San Diego. It is not like driving around other big cities like Boston or New York even Providence.

We ate in the GasLamp District at Hard Rock Cafe and Sammie's Wood Fire Pizza. I recommend both and we also ate at Coronado Brewing Company in Coronado which was excellent.

Trust me it was very easy to get around - much easier than LA.

Thanks for the info!

Just adding that Hotel Circle is in a very central spot, so you will find it easy to get to the areas you'd like to visit. Downtown/Seaport Village/Gas Lamp district are super close and easy to get to, as well as the Old Town portion of San Diego, so you will have lots of nice options to choose from.
