WDW passholder making my my third trip to DLR since 2008 thanks to RunDisney events. Had a great one-night experience at the Holiday Inn and Suites the first time. Second trip in 2013 was a multiple-night stay at Desert Palms that was a bit of a disaster. (Front desk gave us wrong keys and someone else tried to get into our room at 2am! Very scary for two women traveling alone. Couldn't find a manager all weekend to talk about compensation and in the end only received $50.00 for our trouble).

Looking to find a different hotel this time within walking distance due to the races. I know it can't be guaranteed but would also like some quiet. Heard great things about Candy Cane Inn to book on own, but was also eyeing Castle Inn through GET Travel. We'll be at least 2 adults (maybe 4), staying over 5-6 nights.

Any recs?

We usually stay at the Hilton for races, it's an easy walk down Katella to the hotels where the start/finish lines are. Interior corridors and usually pretty quiet, and a Starbuck's in the lobby.

Candy Cane is good. I haven't stayed there lately, but liked it when I did. You really can't go wrong anywhere on Harbor; it's really easy to get to the races you just walk down DTD to the staging area. I've stayed at Best Western Park Place a lot. It's right at the crosswalk and the rooms are nice. For SW in Jan,I was at the Desert Inn(different from the Palm and close to the crosswalk) for a night. I was all the way in the back and it was quiet and big rooms.

A tip though about booking, outside of the 3 resort hotels, if you have an AAA card, most of the time you'll be able to find rates cheaper than through GetTravel. I love them for the park tix, but race weekends I've always found cheaper rates on my own.

Thank you both for the advice - especially the tip on GET. Looks like those are all around the same price. Another runner friend recommended the Best Western Park Place. I'll have to check it out.

Question about AAA - how do I see those discounts? Are they on their website or should I call Disney direct? I might be looking to get a room myself for this weekend.

When you're looking online, a lot of them have a tab for special discounts and AAA is listed, like AARP or Military if they offer that. Some don't have discounts on the site, but if you call them they might be able to apply it.

Obviously staying at one of the Disney resorts is best as far as proximity to the race and race expo. If that is not an option I've stayed at both Best Western Plus Stovall's Inn and Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn multiple times for various runDisney events. They are both okay if all your concerned about is proximity to the parks, a decent place to rest and the staff was attentive. I was not too impressed with the amenities (pool, gym, Internet speed and free breakfast) but Anaheim Inn has had some refurbishments since the last time I stayed there so maybe things are better. They are both close to restaurants around the area and I also liked that Anaheim Inn did not charge for parking. Good luck with your selection.
