I wish we could, but unfortunately DD18 starts college the first week of free dining. We went last year without her, but it just wasn't the same. :sad1:

DaParkers, glad to hear from you, and hope all is well with you and your family.

Us too, sort of...my DS starts school (2nd grade, lol, NOT college) August 18, so free dining is out for us.

We did free dining in 2005 and it was great. We were there the day Hurricane Katrina hit N.O. The heat doesn't bother us, and the hurricane threat doesn't bother us much either. Our first family trip was in 2004, and we were there for hurricane Jeanne.

WDW offers plenty of discounts other times of year with much better weather where the numbers work out to be very close to the same savings of free dining anyway for 2 adults and 2 kids. The only exception would be if you stay in a value resort where the % off room discounts don't save nearly as much.

We love the discounts in Dec and Jan and have always had great weather. When we are hot we don't feel much like eating anyway ;)

What is your school calendar like?
The kids go to school the firstweek in August. They have a Fall break week in Sept, Thanksgiving week they are off, and then two weeks at Christmas. They get winter break week in Feb, and Spring break week in April. School ends the last day in MAy and they get two months June and July for summer.

Right now I am saying it is worth it. This is the first time that we are using the free dining. (I never knew about it until this year). I figure it can't be any worse than when we went in June of '06. It was hot but it was also extremely crowded and it rained a lot!:scared1:
My husband an I agreed that if we were ever able to go back that we would never go that time of year again.
So, I figure it should be better in September since we won't have the crowds to deal with. :yay:

How bad does it usually rain in September? Is an every day occurance? Are they light showers that pass quickly?

The rain is hit or miss. In 2006 we didn't see any rain! Last year it rained everyday, but it wasn't bad. I DID NOT listen to the advice of disers and went without ponchos and flip flops or crocs for the wet weather, I ended up paying 20 dollars for flip flops and 8 dollars per poncho, had to buy 4 of them!

So this year, I have already ordered my crocs and I already picked up some dolloar store ponchos! lol

I would say yes though this is our first FD experience. We've been (in 2005) in Sept. and it was hot but not unbearable. We had a great time and we didn't even know about FD then :)

I voted yes, we were there last year during free dining, last week of August, and it was HOT, but it was not unbearable, and we LOVED not paying for food! We are going back again, same week, with my parents, and saving more than $1000 !! Our kids don't start school till after labour day, so it is the perfect end to summer for us.

To all of you that was able to get free dining, where are you staying and what date will you be there?

We (me and DS 12) will be there August 23-27 and are staying at the All Star Sports.

My friend and her family will be there September 6-12 but they haven't picked a hotel yet....doing that today.

I voted yes. But, truthfully. The last two trips Aug 06' Sept O7. I felt like a wax candle, melting down. Especially in AK. Whew. But, I just love the food. So, once again. I am returning to Disney. This time with grumpmeister against disney dh who has refused to go since our last family trip down in 05'. I am hoping his love for food will bypass the melting effect the sun has.:lmao:

Since we're from Utah we're used to the heat, but not the humidity. I have to admit that a couple of times I felt like the humidity was unbearable, particularly the day we were at AK. We had to go straight from the AK to the Poly Luau and our pictures turned out truly beautiful. We all look like we were melted. The heat was draining, but we tried to swim every day. It was just so much fun to try out restaurants that we otherwise couldn't afford that we signed up for another year!

We were there last year Sept. 9-16 and yes some days were really hot but not all of them, perfect for the water parks though! Definitely wear shorts everyday! There were absolutely no lines!! To me that is worth suffering a little heat.

How many of you think it is better to stay at a nicer resort, such as the Poly when free dining is offered? Or is a value just fine for you and your budget?

So, I guess by a lot of people voting,it looks like most of us can take the heat to save money. Now I'm wondering if I should have booked a POLY room or keep my 2 rooms at the POP. We were just wanting to save money.

We considered POLY and the Beach Club but they were at least 2x the price of 2 rooms at POP so we decided to stick with POP and use the extra on some small home improvement projects we've been putting off.
