I have a hot sensation on the bottom of my foot that comes and goes. It does not hurt, but is driving me nuts. Has anyone else had this and if so what is it?

Kim

Could be a nerve issue. Nueropathy. Do you have diabetes or circulation problems?

You may actually have athlete's foot! Sometimes it causes all kinds of weird sensations (esp. the burning feeling!). Do your feet smell? (be honest :lmao: :lmao: ) Do you have any kind of dry, flaky, peeling skin on your feet? Any discoloration of the skin? Any itchiness? I think it's possible for it to be athlete's foot (or some other fungus type thing) without these symptoms, so I suppose you could try some athlete's foot cream/powder for a while and see if it gets better.

The other thing that strikes me is some kind of compressed, irritated or damaged nerve. Feeling strange sensations, including weird "hot"/"cold" feelings can often be a sign of messed up nerves. They're trying to transmit pain sensations, but instead, it gets interpreted as hot/cold. The other poster who mentioned neuropathy might be on to something. You can have nerve damage without being diabetic, but it's a lot more common for diabetics. I have no idea what exactly would be causing it -- I think slipped/compressed disks and that sort of thing in the lower back can cause all kinds of weird feelings in the legs/feet. Obviously, a ... ahem ... REAL doctor would probably help more than me & my armchair diagnoses! :bitelip:

The hot sensation is inside my foot, kind of where the ball of my foot is. I was going to the chiropractor for a couple of discs a few months ago. They had caused sciatica and the pain in my leg was horrible. I has been much better lately, but I have noticed a little pain back. I noticed the hot sensation more when I push my foot down or put pressure on it.

Thanks for all the help.

Sciatica can definitely cause numbness and strange sensations in the foot (like I mentioned, what you think is "burning" or "hot" might really be a messed up nerve sending the wrong signals). Given your prior history of sciatica and disk problems, I would guess it's pretty likely that your foot issue is stemming from something going on with your spine. A chiropractor might be a good step, but you'll want to go to a specialist M.D., as well -- don't want to mess around with spine stuff.

Best of luck to you

I get that too. I always go to the Chiropractor and it clears right up.

Are you sure you don't have plantars wart? My brother currently has 1 and he says it feels like he has walked on a lit cig. butt.,,, hopefully all will be well by the time we all go to Disney!!

Hi Kim,
I am not sure you still have this problem but I too have had it and went to Dr. I suffer from Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia. She prescribed Lyrica for the nerve pain. She did say it seems to be nerve damage sending a signal to brain & it is feeling hot instead of a pins & needles feeling. Any way it is working wonders for me my hot foot sensation is almost gone and all the nerve pain is going away as well. Just thought I would share this with you as it may help. But always see your own Doctor to be sure. Annie :)
