Hot Dog! Hot Dog! Hot Diggity Dog! ~Upated 12/15 Darn! That's the end!

It may only be 40 miles but t could easily be a 2 hour trip. When I was there in July it took us over an hour to go 17 miles and that was in the middle of the day! Traffic can be horrendous.

Too true, and SoCal traffic can happen any day at any time. Who has heard of a traffic jam at 1 a.m Monday morning? Number one reason DH refuses to live in L.A. or O.C.

I was warned about the dangers of letting the Dis world know that we are staying off site. I have had my share of people bullying me here and I choose to post in safer waters. I have no issue with people knowing we have rented a house. I know you all will have my back in case anyone dares to post negatively on my TR. :goodvibes: But we are just a happy bunch over here and I am NOT looking to start anything like that, just saying.

Ok, I'm way behind and said I would comment as I go.

Lady H and I stay off-site all the time. Welcome to the club. Do we have a club for this? Maybe we should start one. I think Santa Claus had one didn't he. The land of the Misfit toys? We should call ours the DISplaced lodgers.

We bought into a timeshare company that uses points. What ever city this company has a resort in, we can trade in our points and use the resort in that city whenever we want (take it there is room available). They just so happen to have one in Orlando. So we use it to save on our lodging costs. We rent a car to get to ALL the theme parks (US/IoA, SW and WDW). Since we only get to go every 3-4 years or so, we take time to hit all the theme parks. We factor in the costs of renting a car, parking and paying oop for meals. Most of the time for us, it comes out to be cheaper in the long run; as opposed to staying on-site. Yes I've heard that WDW has transportation and the usual blah blah blah that goes with it. In the end, it still comes our cheaper for us. Plus we like having the rental car to do grocery shopping and what not. At the end of the day, we don't have to partake in the running of the bulls to wait for a bus. We cant take our time and shop, and see things without rushing. Anyways, that's whole another chapter right there.

Flights are another big concern for us. They have gotten expensive and there are no longer any direct flights for us. This is another huge cost for us and cuts down on our lodging budget. So when we want to go, it's nice to know we will have a place to stay if we need one.

So don't feel too bad for staying off-site. We do it to and we always enjoy ourselves when we go. :goodvibes

Oh, Daniel, can you give me once again, approx milage from Disneyland to Universal Hollywood, and Disney to DonKnottsberry Farm? We still are really hoping to put in a trip finally to DL next October, that should be a good time to go, right?

Did you not read our trip report? :sad2: Fine then. See if I offer to drive anymore. :snooty: :duck:

An update, treats on me!

Some pictures I forgot to post……

IMG_1820.jpg

I had one of those toss and turn nights. A lot on my mind, the news from the doctor was a bit unnerving.

Right before our trip I made an appointment to have one of those yearly female tests done. I have a nice tag that glorifies this experience for me.

The squish, the squash, whatever you like to refer to it as. All I know is this one hurts and it feels like they are pulling the skin off of my face from the tug. My doctors’ office called to let me know they found something in the film and now I have to come back and have some more pictures taken. Man! Couldn’t they have waited a few more days to call me?

This was scary for me. I lost an aunt, my dad’s sister to breast cancer. I just hated to have this weighing on my shoulders while on vacation with my family. The happiest place on earth really needs to stand up to its reputation to pull me out of this.

I’d think about it, then I’d freak, all my schooling, what for?

Stop it I’d yell at myself.

My kids are still young. Quit it!

I played this game a bunch of times before we got home and then many more after that.

Tim told me worry about it when there is something to worry about, but easy for him to say, right? Not really.

We sleep in today cause Disney Quest is a later opening. Yes dear Nebs, my kids really are looking forward to this, they love video games and such.

I was a product of the Chuck E. Cheese and Major Magic era when video games and pizza were like peanut butter and chocolate.

My dad took me and my sister to one of these fine establishments once a week while my mom went bowling. We would spend hours playing arcade style video games. At one point we had a Ms. Pac Man stand up, a Donkey Kong table top, and a pinball game in our basement. So, needless to say, my inner geek was on. I needed some mindless stuff to do today. With the water parks and more, this was one of those options that we finally got to do.

On our drive to DTD my phone rings. It is my teacher that I am placed with to do my Student Teaching with in two weeks. She has to have emergency surgery and will not be able to teach this Fall. This effects me greatly and I am now without a placement.

Crap!

She is sorry and I understand this is beyond her control and I am panicking. What am I going to do? I am now guessing I will be getting some far away last minute placement that will not be convenient or I will get a late placement and loose valuable time or even get deferred to spring graduation. I email my supervisor and now it is in her hands. Awesome!

I turned my phone off.

My mom doesn’t want to waste one of her days on her non-expiring ticket and she gets dropped off to shop. We have plans to meet up for a late lunch. I turn the phone back on in case she needs me.

DQ turns out to be a blast for us. I loved the arcade games and Maddy loved the kiddie floor and we played many games of air hockey.
IMG_1838.jpg

We found Tim and the kids playing some crazy zombie shooting game and we even battled other pirates in a 3-D family interactive game. Maddy and I had our pics taken in a booth for a keepsake. It was actually her real birthday this day but we played it off that tomorrow was her birthday cause that’s the day we get to go to MK when the crowds are more manageable. I had to have something commemorating her (real birth) day.

We are easily amused and little stuff like this can become a very competitive battle. I had to break up Zack and Tim with some ball pit balls cause it was getting way to childish, I mean serious.
IMG_1848.jpg
IMG_1847.jpg

My mom and I were playing phone tag there was just not a good place to find a signal. We were out of snacks and ready for some real food.

We finally felt we played our hearts out and set out to find my mom.

Now we played Where’s Waldo? I mean Elaine?

She says she is at Sandwich of Earl. But I know better.

We start walking around to take a water taxi and the lightning starts. We get there and guess what? The boats are not running. Doh.

So we start to walk and the heavens open up and it begins to pour huge fat soaking wet rain on us, we find some employees running into a restaurant and we follow them in. We were probably not supposed to be in this part of the restaurant so we quickly find our way to the front and find the porch and try to wait this out. It was one of those mean nasty rains we saw a lot of this trip. It did let up about 30 minutes later and we head to the car. My mom is calling asking me where we are and I find a place to park closer to where she is. I do not walk in the right direction I take us to the complete opposite place that she is at. Still raining.

We finally get back to where we started and she is at, and my kids look at the menu and say I’m not eating this stuff. My sweet, sweet , stupid picky habit eating kids, cause I really wanted t try this place. I need to come back one day without them.

We decide to find someplace else to eat and run into a few shops. The kids have gift cards to spend and they do.

We picked up a Rain Forest Café gift card back home and decide to eat there.

We give them our name and they say 20 minute wait.

We wait, and wait and wait.
IMG_1856.jpg

We are literally standing by the hostess area where they take you to your seats. They are calling everyone’s names and I keep hearing the same names repeatedly being called for a party of 7. We have waited about 45 minutes and Tim finally goes over to see what the problem is. They tell him they have been calling us for 25 minutes.

Seriously? My name is Monica and I heard nothing that sounded like or even came close to it. We round everyone up and my mom is last to arrive. The greeter sees us ALL and starts to walk us to our table. I hang back with my mom cause this place is busy. There is barely any room for a person to walk let alone maneuver a scooter and she just left us in her dust. I really have no idea where she took my family cause at one point we had to back track around some people and tables and she even went down steps, I mean really what are you thinking with lady? I am scanning the room. I have no clue where she took them. I find someone else that works there and say:

“My mother is in a scooter, the girl who is seating us saw her and we have to find ways to get around tables and STEPS and now I have no idea where she went.” I finally see Tim and see where we are to go. I point them out to the person I am talking to and she is confused that we would be seated there.

NOW they ask my mom if she can transfer from the scooter to a chair, we say yes, and they park her scooter for her. This was a lot messier that I reported cause there were issues with her scooter getting wedged between people and tables and it was embarrassing cause at this point in the trip my mom is fed up and feels entitled to people obliging to move out of her way.

Plus I feel she is using the scooter in some ways. She does not have one at home and walks everywhere. I don’t understand why she feels she has to be in it 100% of the time we are on vacation. At times it was a nuisance, I don’t expect her to walk far distances or for long periods of time, but she could have parked it and walk to the table.

Anyways……….I sit down and order some strong alcoholic drink.

Dinner was good, we all got stuff we liked. The theme is fun and the kids love it here. I don’t care for the price of the bill but what can you do?
IMG_1859.jpg
IMG_1857.jpg

Chill out, they are drinking root beer, but man doesn't that make me look like the bad mother of the year?

We are still pretty wet and cold from the air conditioning so as soon as we were done, we went back to the house.

I felt the sting of the news I have received in the last 24 hours and just busied myself with cleaning up and stuff. One thing that was great about this house is that every night I’d throw in a load of laundry into the quarterless wash machine and dryer. We packed half the amount of clothes for this reason. I loved coming home to Michigan with very little clothes to wash.

I remember taking a hot shower and waiting for exhaustion to put me to sleep.

Plus I was looking forward to celebrating with this 5 year old tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. I hate those "spotted on the mamma jamma" calls, or in my case, postcards. This is literally what they have sent me - "We have found something. It's probably not cancer." Thanks. That's so reassuring.

What a nitwit hostess. She's lucky your mom didn't do an Evil Knieval off the steps.

I'm assuming your teaching placement went OK, since that's what has been keeping you busy, isn't it? And I'm praying the something that spurred the phone call turned out to be a nothing. If I remember right, the "mamma jamma" from your tag was postponed because of Mal, right?

You have a better memory than me! It was my first mammo at 35 to establish baseline because of my family history, I don't recall a postponement, but if you say so!

I saw the film before my second round of squishes and it definitely showed something, but I won't leave you all hanging, it never reappeared in all the subsequent pics. Thank GOD!

That was just a lot to pile on at the end of a VACATION.

I have a great placement in which out of the blue a teacher contacted me asking if I'd be her student teacher then I was mistakenly placed at another school, just your everyday follies over here.

So now I'm two chapters behind?!?

Right, then. Off we go.

It is getting very hard remembering what we did when,

Having kids will do that to you.

My mom as you know is not a fan of the water parks, so we decided to go to another one.

:lmao: At first I thought you meant you went to another type of park. Then I got it and burst out laughing.

We found a place under a small shelter of sorts

A seller of shorts? A smelter of snorts?

(Nebo already got the good line here.)

and I arranged the small foot high chairs in a circle. Don’t know why, I just did.

Defensive manoeuvre of course. Anyone who watches shows about predators and prey would recognize it. Or watch an old 'cowboys and indians' movie when they circle the wagons... same principal.

(I put that in just for you. Miss student teacher.)

I did my best to camouflage our stuff and I told everyone to huddle up there was a plan.

Groans and moans from everyone.

Ha. But they'll thank you later... Not! That's the thing about having a plan... only the person who makes one knows just how much time and effort is being saved by it.

I gave them my best mom means business look and told them to have fun. Check in and come back occasionally for water.

I'm betting groans were quickly replace with ear to ear grins?

The boys went one way, Tim and Mal went another, and Maddy and I stood there and looked at each other.

Ever see National Lampoon Christmas Vacation? At the end, everyone goes in the house leaving Clark and the dog looking at each other.

I told her, lead the way! So we walked, and walked, and walked some more.

That sounds so like myself and DD11. Just pick something for Pete's sake! Anything!

I so love when my kids are old enough to do some things on their own and not completely dependent on me to hold their hand, pick them up to put them on something, and run to the other side to catch them.

::yes::

At some point we were all together and I wanted to do the swimming with the scary mean and ferocious sharks.

Who knew you were such a daredevil?

I heard you are lucky to escape with all of your body parts intact. As long as it’s from my middle, I’d be ok with that, I can spare a little bit there.

I saw your pic and you looked perfectly fine to me.

I love snorkeling, lucky to get many opportunities to snorkel in the Caribbean.

Me too... but I don't get many opportunities.

Tim hates it. On our honeymoon we took one of those side trips where they drop you off in the middle of the ocean and Tim was just taking in loads of salt water and coughing. We were near a sand bar where he took off his mask and said, just swim, I’ll wait here for them to pick me up.

:lmao:

It was a little bit nerve wracking until you got to really see it for what it was.

You lost me here. Why was it nerve wracking? Because of the fish, you mean?

TL had Crush N Gusher, which the boys failed to invite me to ride with them. Apparently some crazy lady was remembered to have screamed very loudly the last time we were here to embarrass her boys and they made sure not to remind me about it until now.

That's very considerate of them.

ahem.

We called my mom to let her know we were on our way and she asked if we could pick her up a few things. A spatula, garbage bags, night light bulbs, shoelaces, and an umbrella.

You know I can understand how that happened.

She's at home and decides to cook up some lunch. She fries up... something... and can't get it out of the frying pan because she can't find a spatula. So it gets burned and she tosses it in the garbage. Hmmm... That'll stink after a while, so she takes it outside... and now she can't find another garbage bag. Maybe there's some in the pantry, it's too dark in there to see, some light would be good. Especially at night when she tries to walk around in a strange house. Some night lights would help. She keeps tripping over things in the dark. It's as bad as having your shoelaces untied... probably because they're frayed. New ones would be good. Then she won't slip and fall. Like you would on a wet floor. Which of course it would be if you burned your lunch and took the garbage out and it was raining and you tracked in the water from the puddles but you might not if you had an umbrella to keep you from getting wet in the first place when you went outside to throw out the burned lunch... which reminds her that she's still hungry, so maybe when everyone gets back she can go out for dinner.

See? Makes perfect sense.

We drove all over the place and stopped at a bunch of little stores and shops. Just to avoid Wal-Mart where I am sure I would have found everything, but I boycotted that place days ago.

Good for you for standing by your convictions. No matter how inconvenient.

I found everything but the night light bulbs. Rite-Aid had them on sale and was all out! I figured I’d just leave one of the lamps on for her.

Or get her a miner's helmet! That'd work too.

We met mom at home, she wanted to go out to dinner.

Could you smell something burnt by any chance?

Grandma wanted to make “highballs”, so we stopped at this small liquor store.

I had no idea that a highball was a specific drink (Thanks Smidgy ). I just thought that it was any drink served in a tall glass. What I call a highball glass.

The Dis is nothing if not educational.

My girls love family game night at home and are known to play a mean game of Apples to Apples or Disney Scene It.

I too do not know Apples to Apples. I love boardgames... but DW does not. :(

We have a day at Disney Quest tomorrow

I read that and despite what Nebo said, I had a feeling that you guys would have fun. I've heard extremely mixed reviews of that place. Some people have called it the highlight of their trip, others have absolutely hated it.

I noticed a missed call from my doctor’s office and this has me concerned. I listen to the voicemail and I am stunned.

Ha! Sometimes being too busy to get on the Dis has it advantages. No cliffhanger for me! But I am glad that subsequent tests came out well.

An update, treats on me!

Sweet! I'll have a hot fudge sundae (which falls on a Tuesday unless you're Nebo)

This was scary for me. I lost an aunt, my dad’s sister to breast cancer. I just hated to have this weighing on my shoulders while on vacation with my family.

That's too bad. It really is. But again, I'm glad that everything seems to be okay.

Tim told me worry about it when there is something to worry about, but easy for him to say, right? Not really.

Tim sounds a lot like myself.

We sleep in today cause Disney Quest is a later opening. Yes dear Nebs, my kids really are looking forward to this, they love video games and such.

Yup. That's what I figured... and why I thought they'd like it.

I was a product of the Chuck E. Cheese and Major Magic era when video games and pizza were like peanut butter and chocolate.

I've never heard of Major Magic. And I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think I've ever set foot inside a Chuck E Cheese. I have taken the kids (when they were a bit younger) to similar places though.

At one point we had a Ms. Pac Man stand up, a Donkey Kong table top, and a pinball game in our basement.

Okay. You've just scored major points in the coolness/nerdness category. We used to have a pinball machine in our basement too. No other arcade games (I don't think Dad believed in them or something) but we did have a bumper pool table.

On our drive to DTD my phone rings. It is my teacher that I am placed with to do my Student Teaching with in two weeks. She has to have emergency surgery and will not be able to teach this Fall. This effects me greatly and I am now without a placement.

Oh, that sucks. I may have missed it, but any update on that? (Or am I getting ahead of the game here?)

My mom doesn’t want to waste one of her days on her non-expiring ticket and she gets dropped off to shop.

I can understand that. I would imagine that DQ would not have the same appeal for her that it did for the rest of you. I'm guessing that really old people just can't relate.

Right Nebo?

It was actually her real birthday this day but we played it off that tomorrow was her birthday cause that’s the day we get to go to MK when the crowds are more manageable.

Did she know that it was her actual birthday? Or did she think it really was the next day?

I had to break up Zack and Tim with some ball pit balls cause it was getting way to childish, I mean serious.

Battling zombies is a serious occupation, ya know.

She says she is at Sandwich of Earl. But I know better.

Okay, ya lost me again here. Did you mean that she thought she was at Earl of Sandwich but just mixed up the name, or she thought she was there but was really somewhere else?

We start walking around to take a water taxi and the lightning starts. We get there and guess what? The boats are not running. Doh.

Disney frowns on roasting the people who will ultimately be paying the bills.

So we start to walk and the heavens open up

To a chorus of angels singing hallelujahs?

and it begins to pour huge fat soaking wet rain on us,

oh.

we find some employees running into a restaurant and we follow them in. We were probably not supposed to be in this part of the restaurant so we quickly find our way to the front and find the porch and try to wait this out.

What? Golden opportunity! Free samples! Pretend you're a server and grab some meals! Say you're the food inspector and need to taste everything.

sigh.

My mom is calling asking me where we are and I find a place to park closer to where she is. I do not walk in the right direction I take us to the complete opposite place that she is at. Still raining.

 Of course. If it had been a nice day you would've found her right away.

We finally get back to where we started and she is at, and my kids look at the menu and say I’m not eating this stuff. My sweet, sweet , stupid picky habit eating kids, cause I really wanted t try this place. I need to come back one day without them.

I hear ya. I HEAR ya!

We give them our name and they say 20 minute wait.

We wait, and wait and wait.

How long?

We have waited about 45 minutes and Tim finally goes over to see what the problem is.

nevermind.

They tell him they have been calling us for 25 minutes.

:headache: D'oh!

My name is Monica and I heard nothing that sounded like or even came close to it.

Reminds me of the time I phoned a Chinese restaurant to make a reservation. The person who answered the phone had a thick chinese accent. I decided not to use my real last name, since I always have to spell it. Instead I pick the nice easy "Smith". To which I hear, "How you spell that?" :rotfl:

She does not have one at home and walks everywhere. I don’t understand why she feels she has to be in it 100% of the time we are on vacation. At times it was a nuisance, I don’t expect her to walk far distances or for long periods of time, but she could have parked it and walk to the table.

Quite the event. Odd that the hostess would expect the scooter to be able to navigate over steps, etc. And yet... why did your Mom insist on taking it when she clearly couldn't make it... and could easily walk? Maybe she didn't know where she could park it.

Anyways……….I sit down and order some strong alcoholic drink.

I wonder why?

Dinner was good, we all got stuff we liked. The theme is fun and the kids love it here. I don’t care for the price of the bill but what can you do?

You can wait until they're older. They'll eventually not beg to eat there. At least mine seem to be heading that way.

Please, please, let it be so.

Chill out, they are drinking root beer, but man doesn't that make me look like the bad mother of the year?

Nah, just a mom who goes with the flow.

ahem.

We are still pretty wet and cold from the air conditioning

I don't care for air conditioners that make you wet.

One thing that was great about this house is that every night I’d throw in a load of laundry into the quarterless wash machine and dryer.

Bills only, huh?

I remember taking a hot shower and waiting for exhaustion to put me to sleep.

But look at the bright side. You got a shiny new spatula.

Plus I was looking forward to celebrating with this 5 year old tomorrow.

Looking forward to reading all about it. Thanks for the chapter(s)! :goodvibes

Sorry, didnt see your last update till tonight.

Wow, sorry about the confusion with your mom and the RFC mess.
i had one of those lovely dr. notes too, going on Tuesday, sigh, but glad everything, including your job turned out ok.

I meant to go to bed early, and here it's 1:30 again, why do I always do that?

My left shift key decided to die on me today, it's a major pain to use the right one, but at least there is one. You can't even post a ? without shift, major pain indeed.

Hope you had a great Turkey day.

Ponzi, great breakdown as always

Ponzi, great breakdown as always

Thanks. I looked back up and saw how long it was... then I looked at your post count (and yup, I remember what you said about it) <- Look! Brackets! And exclamation marks! Don't you just love the shift key?

Anyway, I thought that if I posted each of the quotes individually, I'd be up around your lofty number too. It might be interesting, then you could look at the post counts and see this:

I lost everything I was working on, stupid internet explorer!

Pkondz, it was brilliant! All responses to your lost post, just brilliant!

So I leave you this:

Chinese Buffet

We work in this stuff into our daily conversations, plus we love Jim Gaffigan. Listened to his comedy albums on our drive down.

thanks for the link, monica!!! how funny! I got totally distracted, on you tube you watch another, then yet another clip..... NAY NAY!!!:rotfl2:

Geesh, I'm so glad the tests turned out allright, hate to think of your family having to go through that stuff again.

i'm glad you like DQ as well. We have a Dairy Queen too,
his name is Bruce and he delivers the milk in the morning.

I wish I had gone with you guys to DQ, i never saw any shooting zombies game there, but I did like the Pirates simulator a lot, that I thought was well done. I just still cant justify spending 40 bucks or so to stand and play Q-Bert for two hours. And I felt like a real idiot sitting in a canoe tryiing to move it by sticking my oar into a pile of rubber mats on Virtual Jungle Cruise.

The one thing that sticks in my mind about Rainforest Cafe reviews is that EVERYBODY says they LIE About the wait times, it's always a long wait. I've never eaten at one there yet, but we, too, have done the Chuck I Cheese thing with the kids when they were little. That's probably the ONLY pizza worse than Disney's pizza.

Sorry, this is all the time I have now, I have somewhere I have to be tomorrow morning. Can you believe we are going back there again so soon? Me neither.
But I'll think of you when I'm at Animal Kingdom, and remember that I was with Monica when she first ever saw Divine.
hugs, stefan

Of that, I have no doubt.

Nay Nay!! :lmao:

Ponzi! That was classic! Did you write If You Give A Mouse a Cookie?

I had no idea what you were talking about... but the great and wonderful Oz.... um... Google had a Youtube clip of the book.

I so could have written that... maybe not. I probably would've added in a spatula.

I just still cant justify spending 40 bucks or so to stand and play Q-Bert for two hours.

Me too. Why would I spend $40 on a game that I've finished? Some day I'm going to have to go and form my own opinion of the place, I guess.

Guys that is why we have bucket lists. If you rationalize the stuff, we wouldn't go period to any of it. DQ was fun and worth it. It was an add on for us, which made it easier to do. If you have the WPAM option, just go there.

Why do I go to the same parks over and over?
Why ride the same rides over and over?

Why don't we visit US/IOA, cause I am stuck in a rut. I have to work on that one.

I think after this last trip it will be easier for us to branch out a bit more.

We stayed off site and had a great time. We could include or only go to US/IOA, right? Right?

See stuck in a rut..........

Oh Stefan I will miss you so! I would wish you the best trip ever, but that is impossible since I will not be there. So I hope you the second best trip ever!
