We're having my sister's baby shower soon and we're doing all the food. We have one of the 3 pot crock pots and we'd like to do 3 hot appetizers/dips. I thought maybe 2 types of meatballs and then some sort of hot dip.

Some information on the party...it is a Sunday afternoon. We're planning to have fruit and dip, veggies and dip and small sandwiches.

So what would cook for the 3 hot apps/dips?

Forgot to add we're having it at a friend's place so I need to be able to cook the apps on Saturday and bring them to the location on Sunday.

I'd do Hawaiian meatballs, buffalo chicken dip, and chilli con queso. All quick and easy to prepare the day before and serve from a crockpot the next day and they are all big hits when I've made them.

I would skip 2 types of meatballs... IMO you only need one.

A queso cheese dip or even a hot crab dip with bread would be awesome.

I would personally do buffalo chicken dip, jalapeno popper dip (see recipe on AllRecipes...not as spicy as it sounds) and meatballs.

I also recommend getting a cake.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far! I forgot to add we are having cupcakes and a small cake that will form a caterpillar for the Eric Carle theme!

I love the idea of a crab dip. For the other one, I'd do the Velveeta/Rotel. Everytime I make either, they're gone halfway through the party.

Have you ever added a can of cream of mushroom soup, a package of chopped broccoli and a pound of browned ground beef to the Rotel and Velveeta? My cousins makes it take way and we will seriously fight over it and scoop out the last drop with a spatula.

We make a velveeta and salsa/ground beef hot dip that is outstanding. :cool1: sounds like anything with Velveeta is a sure hit :lmao:
label all the appetizers so those with allergies or such know which are safe:goodvibes

I always buy the frozen Italian meatballs and cover them with Prego (original). Heat in the crock-pot.

They are always a hit.

I agree with the velvetta/rotel dip...always a very popular and delicious choice! Hope the shower is lots of fun! :)

Chili cheese dip. Mixture of chili, cheddar and velveeta. Goes great with tortilla chips or fritos.

If you want to forgo two types of meatballs, but still have another meat dish, how about the little hot dogs? You cook 'em in the crockpot in a 1 to 1 mixture of grape jelly and chili sauce. Yum.

I always make the previously mentioned buffalo chicken dip as well as a pizza dip that is served with bread sticks, bagel chips or toasted baguette slices. It's super easy to make:one block of cream cheese blended with 2tbls of Italian seasoning spread as the bottom layer, jar of pizza sauce on top of that, about 1/2 cup of combined mozzarella and Parmesan cheese to cover that. You would want to at least double this. We never have any left.

Our favorite hot dip.... (Best if made day early!!)

2 jimmy deans pork sausage (regular or one reg and one hot depending on if you want it really spicy)
2 cans Rotel (reg tomatoes and chilies)
2 pkgs cream cheese

1. Brown pork sausage. Drain fat
2. Add two cans of Rotel and allow meat to simmer (usually allow 10-15 mins) stirring occasionally
3. Add in cream cheese. I usually chunk it to help it melt faster. Simmer for a couple mins

Serve with tortilla chips

We allow it to cool and refrigerate over night. Put in crock pot and rewarm

Trader Joe's has a couple of cheese based dips/spreads that would work well in a crock pot. I always have a few containers in the freezer for surprise guest appearances. I can microwave one, put it in a bowl (or the mini crock pot) and put a basket of tortilla chips or crackers next to it.

Crock pot Kielbasa in a brown sugar glaze is usually a big hit at our family events.

This is an amazing dip - so so so so so good and so easy!

We have been doing jala pop dip a lot lately...it's so tasty!

I'm with others who said they would only do 1 kind of meatballs. In my circle we aren't big meatball fans. :) I'd do the little sausages from Hillshire Farms in one, covered with just plain old BBQ sauce (I know people do them with jelly but I prefer plain old BBQ sauce lol), do the meatballs in another and I'd probably do the buffalo chicken dip in the last one. That stuff is so good.....lol

How about a hot reuben dip? I just had some at a Christmas party, it was really good!
