I've seen the previews for this movie, and based on what I've seen, it seems as though this movie is simply one of gratuitous violence for the sake of violence. Is there any more to it than what I'm seeing? It boggles my mind that anyone would want to see something like this...yes I'm being judgemental, but (without having seen it) it just looks awful. Anyone here see it/have an opinion?

Can't wait to see it!! :teeth:

It's a good old fashioned gory/slasher/horror movie. And there are people out there (like me) who like that. That's why they made it. :)

To each his own, but the commercial scares me so much that I have to change the channel. I'm such a baby :) . I cannot imagine trying to sit through it in the theater, I would be screaming so much they would throw me out.

what IS the plot? From the previews it just seems like showcasing the slice and dice of the victim? I'm a great slasher, bloody, gore fan. I just wanna know what its about.

That's Quentin Tarintino (sp) for you. Love his movies!

Quentin Tarintino was on a local radio station yesterday with the guy who wrote the script. Quentin said it was the sickest thing he has ever been involved with and he thinks it is great.

This is definitely not my idea of a good movie. From what he said, it sounded like a group that lured teenagers in and tortured them. I always fear these types of movies will give sickos ideas.

Isn't the whole point of horror movies since the hitchcock error ended gratuitous violence for the sake of violence? :confused3

I thought I was going to hate Kill Bill, but I ended up loving it. The gore was rather silly, it was almost like reading a comic book. I'm not so sure about this one, it just looks disturbing.

I am staying at a hostel for a week starting Thursday night! :earseek:

"HOSTEL is a mixture of many of the most terrifying things about human nature and the world at large, culled from many impossible-but-true stories of human trafficking, international organized crime, and sex tourism. Relentlessly graphic and deeply disturbing, the film is sure to shock even the most hard core genre fans...."

that's part of the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes...25 fresh and 9 rotten, not too shabby! :teeth:

I'm a Tarantino fan but I think I have to pass on this film. The commercial is scary enough for me lol. :earseek:

Caution possible spoiler about the plot of the movie

This is from a review I read concerning the latter half of the film.
That the these male back packers get sold of to this old wharehouse in Slovokia where people to go and pay $25,000 to kill or torture a person anyway they want.

This looks sick and demented. Let's boycott so that nobody else can see it either. :rotfl:

I'm a big fan of QT's Pulp Fiction, but I have no desire to see this movie.

At least there's not a network that can decide not to show it!! ;) :rotfl:

I'll admit, I may have to watch from behind my hands!

rated R "for brutal scenes of torture and violence, strong sexual content, language and drug use."

I did hear that there is female nudity galore in this movie before its turns gory.

I saw the preview for this film while at the cinema for Syriana. The preview was very disturbing and I felt a bit resentful about being exposed to something like that. On top of that there was also a vulgar advertisement for the new Howard Stern radio show. It was a double whammy!

I read the review for Hostel and the reviewer claimed that part of the artistic merit of the film is that it generates sympathy for obnoxious characters.

I used to like scary movies although I've never been a fan of the gory ones.

I did like Pulp Fiction though, somehow it got my funny bone. I'll pass on this one.

My brother loves him. He's so weird. Both of them, my brother and Q.T.! :goodvibes

I like horror movies but I like them to have a little suspense, a little build up. Just watching someone get hacked to pieces is not scary at all. It just isn't. Gross maybe, but not scary.
Sometimes less is more. An imagined horror can be much worse. Our minds are very powerful and with just the right bit of coaxing, can usually imagine something alot worse than any director could dream up. That's why I liked the movie Signs, it was very subtle but very effective. IMO

I loved Kill Bill and gore doesn't usually bother me but for some reason torture scenes make me turn away. Just don't like them, so I guess I'll pass on this one.
