We are particularly keen to ride horses on the beach in Hilton Head.

Has anyone any experiences of this - I noticed a place called Sea Horse Farms which does trips - anyone used them.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

Thanks

Tammy

I did it once with my DD.
I'm not sure of the name of the stables we used as it's been awhile...but it's probably the same one because I think they are the only one that does the beach ride. We did it through an activity program at our timeshare.

You saddle up at their stables and take a ride down a road and path to get to the beach. The ride on the beach is not that long, and you only walk...but both my daughter (she was probably about 5-6) enjoyed ourselves. The guide was nice, the horses were well-behaved.

From what I understand, they can't do it year-round though (at least at the time we went) because of some regulations on the island.

I did it years ago, once on the sound side (lots of fiddler crabs to see) and once on the "ocean" side, but even so, it's not the part of the beach that has waves crashing around. The tide time makes a difference too.

If you really want to ride on the beach and are an experienced rider who loves to canter, you need to drive 2.5 hours north to Seabrook Island.

Apparently, Dausfuskie Island also has beach rides, but on top of the ride you'd have to spend something in the neighborhood of $30-40. to ride the ferry over I believe (although you can check and see if the resort there has some kind of deal running for transportation). I've never done this so if you try it, be sure to report back.

The other option is Lawton Stables in Sea Pines, but there you go through the Forest Preserve. Still, it is an interesting ride through some pretty (and historic) areas.

PS. If it makes a difference, saddles at Seabrook are english, while the ones on HH are western. Not sure about Daufuskie, but I would guess western.
