Horror of all horrors!

Not to the extreme that I actually cleared a room, but I know many people who cannot understand my Disney obsession and don't like Disneyland. I'm even married to one. Some people look at me like I'm nuts when I say I'm going for my fourth visit this year. They "can't stand it".

Someone needs a good dose of Pixie Dust!! Oh well 2 less people in the crowd. Good grief!!! Whenever I need some magic I put on my tink earrings! I have 2 styles and love them. :tinker:

I can't say that I've had the same experience; the worst I've ever got was "you're going to Disneyland AGAIN?!?" followed by amused laughter. Oh well for those who just don't get it; more room for those of us who do!

In my family, I don't think ANY of our friends or family relate to us, as far as our trips to Disneyland go, lol.

My Dad had such animosity towards all things Disney for so long! Back in the 1950's or early 1960's, he was actually turned away at the Disneyland gates because his hair was too long! I don't blame him for being offended, but I was bummed that it made him reluctant to go to Disneyland with us. Then, about 6.5 years ago, he agreed to go. It was the greatest trip ever. He was 69, and not in the greatest health, but he rode every ride we did! I'll never forget the look of excitement on his face as he waited for California Screamin' to take off! I lost him last year, so those memories are so meaningful to me.

I have met people who truly cannot STAND Disneyland. But I just figure it's sort of the same thing as me hating sports. For instance, I'd rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my fingernails than go to a live football game. It doesn't bother me when other people don't like Dland...all it means is that they won't be there crowding up the place, LOL!!!

Ok, so people who know me say "I saw a silver Toyota with a Mickey Mouse antennae ball and an Obama sticker so I knew it must be you."

I wear my Disney notoriety with pride!

my colleagues at work are pretty ambivalent about my Disney fetish. they let me do my thing. One of my staff though said she couldn't think of a worse holiday and would rather stick pins in her eyes! :rotfl:

Growing up I went to DL every summer and then every November as we got older. Disney is in my family's blood. It has to be genetic and one of the few things I inherited from my mother. My dad likes it but I think he goes to make my mom happy.

Unfortunately, I married someone who only went once growing up and just doesn't understand the NEED for DL. This year I think I finally got through to him though...I said "honey...you can go with me or you can go with me" It's not an option.

I work 4 jobs, have a 5 yr old Disney obessessed DS (raising him right!) and my only outside hobbies are cooking and reading. This is my passion and my "hobby". DH would spend every waking moment fishing and that's his passion. I told him DL is exactly like fishing for me. I said, since I work so freakin hard and I'm supporting our family in these tough economic times, then I deserve to go to my freakin' happy place at LEAST once per year. And yes, I did say freakin an awful lot...I was tired and irritated. Further more, since I go fishing (ugh, I hate fishing!) with you almost every freakin weekend when I'm not working then you can suck it up and be a man and go to DL with me.

It's just not the same without him and my family doesn't feel right not having DH with us and you know what....he has actually started to enjoy his time there. Last time he actually admitted to liking a ride! (gasp!) Which is big for the non Disney folks. Plus I drug him now and it goes alot easier for us all!:rolleyes1

Ha ha! The first time we went to Disneyland when our daughter was little I had to give my husband one of my "airplane valium" . Now it's become our tradition. He's just not a crowd person at all, but wants to make his girls happy so he goes with it. Doctors will give you an rx if you have a fear of flying but not a fear of Disneyland! Funny.
He does love the rides and appreciates all the imagination and creativity in the park, just doesn't like all the dang people. Which truthfully I can understand. I'm super excited about this trip because I haven't been in a long time, but my happy place is Kauai. I would go there 4 times a year if I could.
I have friends that go to DLR every year for a week and spend so much money on the trip. For me that would be crazy. I'd rather spend my time and money going somewhere beautiful and tropical and being immersed in nature. After being on this board I realize my friends that are Disney crazy have a lot of company! That's ok...more power to you!

It is kind of funny when people at work here I am going on vacation they almost always assume I am going to Disneyland. (which 80 percent of the time is true!).

I have gotten to the point where I avoid the conversation with my mom, she likes Disney but not nearly as much as I do.

This summer we are going to DLR with all my siblings and their families and my mom. They of course are only staying 3 days, and well we have AP's and are staying much, much longer.

The most wonderful thing is coming to the Dis Boards! :disrocks:

You all are just as obsessed, delighted, and mesmerised by Disney as I am! That is why I love coming here every day!

You and your husbands obsessions sounds like me and my husband...I  Disneyland and he will go one year and be done (he hasnt gone with us since 2001 I think) and for him his obsession is Bass Fishing, to which I get sooo bored of. He is actually joining us this year :cool1:

Wow, OP, that's a little over the top. If I don't like something I'm at least polite about it so that the person talking about it doesn't feel like a complete moron or something. I'm sorry that must have been pretty embarrassing! Luckily for me I am with a boy who I took to DL for the first time, and he just LOVES it. He always says he can't wait for the next trip and we plan them all the time (while we have the money, we'll be moving out in a few months and sadly won't be able to afford it as much, even with AP's:sad2:).

The most annoying thing is his mother always being a total &#^$% about it when we are getting ready to go again. If I have to listen to her say "You guys are going to Disneyland AGAIN?!" one more time... :scared1: But our excuse this year is "We have AP's.. we want to get the most out of them." And most people's responses is "Ahh, Gottcha." Lol. But just like a few others said, it's less people crowding the park! I look around sometimes and wonder why half the people are there anyway, they look miserable and annoyed. Like there was this one group of teenage boys (:headache:) and they were in TOT. They kept saying things like "Oh cause I was just outside and now all of a sudden it's dark and raining!" Being sarcastic. The teenagers ruin it for me.

On that note, I hateeee when people scream for no reason on rides. It ruins the ride and if you're like me and get stuck with those types of people constantly, it makes Disneyland 2384 times less enjoyable. :sad1: I totally understand when we're going down hills and turning turns, but when we are getting our seatbelts checked? :confused3

My siblings are amused by my Disney "love." Yet, they are the first to ask my advice on rental cars or airline discounts - information I learned via various Disney boards and websites.

My DS 18 recently wrote a paper for his English class dissin' WDW! He is not a fan of the lines, or some of the corny rides, but he will tolerate the parks. The paper made me wonder - where did I go wrong??? Oh well, at least I have two other sons that enjoy Disney!

Sorry never cleared a room lol. However when I told Mom that dd14 and I were going to Disneyland for our birthdays I got the token "AGAIN why do you want to go back when there are so many places to go"?

That's a great question!

Here is my answer

I feel safe at Disney, there is a certain comfort level going back to a place you are familiar with, the world is filled with so much negativity and corruption I can go there and it is my mental health break, I for one feel it is a very good value for my dollar, I just really dig themeparks especially Disney and she replied "the crowds how do you handle the crowds"?

Another great question

Here is my answer

Well Mom on the internet there is this Disney forum made especially for Disney nutjobs such as myself...........thanks to that board every trip is a great trip thats why I keep going back.:goodvibes

Mom: "well it's your money I guess you can spend it anyway you want. You do realize most people go to Disney once or twice in their life and then do other things don't you?"

Me: Wow Mom I really feel sorry for them lol:lmao:

How awful! I feel sorry for those people who don't "get it". Everytime we plan a trip to DL, I have to hear my mother in law say, "You know, your little ones won't even remember. It's a waste of $ to take them when they are too little to have any memory of it". I love taking them when they are small, memory or not, because DL is so magical & real through their eyes.

Who says they won't remember?;)

MY DS was 3 1/2 on his 1st trip and we talked about the trip before, we talked about it after and I made a scrapbook that stays in our living room after our trip. He looks through that book once a week at least and talks about the memories and all the fun things we did. He's always been a little advanced verbally...he's a talker!

I think how much they remember has to do with age but also with how much YOU want them to remember. I want my son to remember walking down Main St for the 1st time, and he does! I want him to remember the 1st time he met Mickey and he does! You get my point...

So the next time your MIL says they won't remember, say...Yes, they will!:thumbsup2

Some people just don't get it, but there is no excuse to be rude.

When people tell me my kids won't remember- I tell them so what! I am going for me and to have fun with them- which they do! Also I love the pictures of my kids at the Happiest Place on Earth.

OMG!!! You had the same experience I just had!! The lady down the street just went on a 1 week trip to WDW with her extended family. Including a grandma with emphysema in a scooter, and an aunt (bad knees) in a scooter too. So she just got back and I was hoping to get me some Disney fix since we leave on Friday.

Well, they did NOT have a good time. They all stayed together as a group, and never did get a guest assistance pass for their scooter folk.... It was crowded there, and they didn't get to do much. So, no they wouldn't have had a good time.

I asked her why they didn't split up, and she said since the aunt (maybe?) paid for it for them, they felt like they all needed to stay together. But her main complaint was the rude people on the buses....

I told her that her experience would be completely different if she just took "her" little family, but she was like "not anytime soon".

Poor things... I feel bad for them...

I have friends, yes, very good friends (egad!) who have no desire to ever go to Disneyland. The thought boggles my brain and makes me sad for them, but I do my friendly duty and make sure they know what they are missing, and go on remaining friends with these incredible, amazing, wonderful people, despite their major, huge, gigantic, unfathomable flaw. :lmao:

Sometimes I view enjoying Disney as sort of like a religion: You can show it to someone, you can explain it to them, but if they don't "get it," at some point, you just can't do much more than respect their choice (even if you can't possibly understand it!).
