Regal Palms resort.

We had not planned on coming to orlando until december but dm decided that since my aunts and cousin had come to town from overseas we would take them down for a short trip. I literally had one weeks notice so I booked through hotelkingdom.com. We decided on Regal Palms resort for one main reason, it was the basically the only place that had availability and the space for the whole family to be in one unit instead of 2-3 units. I was pretty excited to try a new place. I read on tripadvisor the mixed reviews, but between the good and the bad reviews I went ahead and booked. It's really easy to get to, we just took 27 from the Florida Turnpike and it took us straight to Sand Mine Road. The Publix is pretty close and I guess you could even walk to it, but I'm on vacation, I'm driving even if it is to the hotel pool. We're on Miramar, one of the 3 streets so when you turn into the resort it's the street that you turn into. So far it's a pretty small resort, but I saw the new units that are under construction; It won't stay small for long. When I first checked in, they couldn't find my ressies. She kept saying that the only Smith they had was John Smith. Since I'm such a anal planner, I brought all my documents. When I came back in from getting my confirmation paperwork, the attendant told me, "oh yeah they put it under my first name (which I had been saying all along) Smith. What? Anyways, we drove to the townhouse which I liked. I love being able to drive right up to the door and bringing in my things. I mean it's right up to the door, about 4 steps and I'm at the front door. We had a back patio, but from looking around the only townhouses that have a balcony are the ones on the ends. I love having 4 bedrooms and I love not having someone above me.

The unit that we were assigned had 3 bedrooms upstairs with a main master bedroom with a bathroom, there is also a separate bathroom for the other two bedrooms. The bedroom downstairs has a bathroom that opens from the hallway and the bedroom. It also has door that goes straight outside. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

The first night we were there, my aunt was about to go to bed when she pulled back the covers, the pillow had a head print and hair on it like someone had already slept in the bed and just put the covers up. I called to get new sheets and explained the situation but the front desk kept misunderstanding that I did not want maid service but just clean sheets. She argued with me by telling me that I needed to wash the sheets. She proceeded to tell me that it was not a hotel and they don't change sheets. Finally I just got tired of it and told her that I didn't have clean sheets and that I never had clean sheets in the first place and now I don't even know if any of the sheets are cleaned. I think she finally got it. She told me that she would put in an order for some clean sheets to be dropped off in the morning. Yeah, thanks! So that means that my aunt has to sleep on some dirty sheets in the mean time. When we got into bed our sheets weren't smelling too great either, it smelled like men's cologne. Like our food, I just prayed over it. I was way too tired from the drive and the fight was gone from me that night.

We, like every one else on the block, put the kitchen trash curbside the next morning because for some reason you just cannot fit all the kitchen trash into a waste basket the size of a bathroom trashcan.

After unpacking, i went to the kitchen to get some water, and noticed a couple of the glasses in the cabinet weren't cleaned. I went to wash the the glasses and there was no dish soap or sponge. I felt like I was really roughing it. Whatever happend to the cute little bottle of Dawn dish detergent like the Beach Club gives out. I said forget it, I needed a shower anyways. DH and I got the main master suite upstairs with the bathrom in it since we needed more room for the baby crib. The resort charges $15 a day for a crib so we brought our own. Disney also puts them in the rooms on request for free. I went ahead and tried out the extra big and deep tub that we had. They give soap, but it's the size of your pinky toe. The disney hotels give you those big Mickey soap with the shampoo that tangles your hair. There were also no wash cloths. I don't know about anyone else but I'm a wash cloth kind of girl, been that way for the past 13 years now. I like the wash cloth, I need the wash cloth. There were no wash cloths. For those who have a thing about water pressure, it was fine, not to hard not too soft. So no soap, no dish soap and no wash cloth, good thing Publix was so close because I was going to be making a visit in the morning.

On the first night, my aunt went to her bedroom and told me her tv wasn't working . It was pretty late that first night but the next night I called it into maintenance and a maintenance man came by within twenty minutes. He looked at the tv said we weren't supposed to have it anyways because we already had two tv's in the unit and not to touch it. WHAT the?@#$@#$ I also did not get the sheets that was promised for my aunts bed. I went through it with the front desk again-no maid service, you must clean your own sheets, etc. After going through the whole I never got clean sheets in the first place, the clerk told me that it would be in the next day, well, heck we were checking out the day after that. We never did get those clean sheets either.

The question is would I stay here again? No soap, no dish soap, no wash cloth, no clean sheets, no clean dishes.... I'm not recommending that someone else doesn't go, but take a look at the reviews that are out there and know what to expect. Don't expect anything so when you do get some clean sheets it'll be a pleasant surprise. The price and townhouse was nice. Would I stay there again? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't too good either. I don't think so, not if I had a choice.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a difficult time at the Regal Palms :guilty: I hope that didn't affect your entire vacation too much...
From the reviews that I have read on the travel report websites...people seem to either love their stay having little to no problems while others just encounter one difficulty after another.

Having stayed at the Regal Palms in January and another trip booked for Jan '06 already (both booked through a private owner, not through a trip company or the resort itself) I am fortunate enough to be one of those travelers that have had a wonderful stay with no problems with some personal attention thrown in.

Was it like my stay at the Boardwalk in '96, or my stay at the Wilderness Lodge Villas in '02, or Old Key West in '02, absolutely not. The Disney attention is just not there, did I miss it, Absolutely...would I trade it for the difference in the room rates for a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk or Wilderness for $400 per night or $70 for a 3 bedroom at the Regal Palms...Absolutely Not. :teacher:

Would I recommend the private owner's townhouse units at the Regal Palms to anyone...Yes..PM me...Does that even guarentee you a problem free resort stay...Probably not...one can only hope! :scratchin

YOU ABSOLUTELY need to write a letter to the manager and whomever the parent company is. Do not bother with customer service but find out who the 'boss" is and go right to the top the CEO and the president. What you described with the unclean sheets is totally unacceptable. I cannot believe you went to bed on them b/c I would have been flipping out so that by the end it would have read "Bella the Ball's Regal Palms" on the marquee as you enter.

NEVER let things like this go. In addition, you should make the people at Hotelkingdom aware of your situation too. If I am not mistaken they are the ones that assign the stars and let them know that as far as you're concerned it was a "starless night".

Wow, that's like a $330 difference. That would certainly buy a lot of washcloths and soap!! Just kidding, it is totally unacceptable to not have a clean unit. Especially sheets. Did you have a washer and dryer? Not that you should have to wash your own sheets when you arrive but it would have been an option if they weren't going to bring you some clean. I'm not familiar with this place, is it a house or a condo village? Not someplace I'd want to stay, I don't think and I definitely agree that you should contact the management and complain.

Bella, I thought about what you said and wrote a letter to management. It's not as if my cousin and aunts come down to town often. With them living overseas, it was a treat. You're right management should know what's bothering me.

Jdm, yeah it's a lot of washcloths and soap that I could've bought for that money. Better yet, I could've bought it from home if I knew the situation I was going to be. The townhouse did have a washer/dryer, but heck if I knew I was going to start out with dirty ones while on vacation I could've bought the clean ones from home and saved myself some work with washing them when I got there at 10 pm.

I had a number of unresolved issues during our stay at Regal Palms (we had clean sheets though. I would have positively freaked out over that one!) At check out, the manager on duty asked me if everything was satisfactory with our stay. I rattled off a number of my complaints and he said he wanted to do something to compensate me. He ultimately credited my Visa for one night's stay.

Figment 22 I would definately take the credit BUT I would let the manager know you are still going to write a letter to whomever is the top person involved with the resort. I am sure the manager is not that person and he was way to quick to credit you one night. It is kind of like "hush money". Unfortunately, I find that is a technique that often is used to keep the upper level people from knowing the situation. I would say that since both you and Goofyzgurl had a problem you are not a couple of isolated cases.

Goofyzgurl I am glad that you did write. I had quickly looked on line to see if I could find out more info than just the manager. It needs to go a little higher with a cc to the manager otherwise, it will be kept within the resort and swept under the rug.

AS I mentioned before, I am an easy person to please but if I have a basic complaint involving a place that I am paying a good amount to and they do not fix it asap then they better beware. I worked in customer service for 18 years and there is NO way I am going to be quiet for a major complaint especially in light of the STUPID situations with which I had to deal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing!!!

We've got a conference in Orlando in November. I'm in charge of booking everybody's room (for convenience's sake we're staying on I-Drive since we won't have a car).

However, my boss is coming and bringing his kids and grandkids. I was considering booking this place for his family, because Hotel Kingdom has such a great rate, and he would have so much room (and the pool area looks neat). I can't go through a private owner, because I can't take a chance on a problem with company money involved. This place is definitely out now - I'm not a gambler (particularly not with my boss! LOL).
