Good luck! We bought resale eight years ago and have never regretted it. If we were to pay cash we would never stay in the great accommodations that we get with DVC. Look up the rack rate for a 1 or 2 bedroom or a suite at a non DVC Disney hotel. We've gotten spoiled by packing for a few days and just swapping out loads of laundry as we come and go. Plus even though we don't cook full meals in the villa we do keep plenty of drinks and snacks on hand plus quick breakfast items. Bottom line, it doesn't feel like we are all crammed into a hotel room but that we are staying in a condo or small house. Even though we are grandfathered in to use our resale points for exchanges we have not done so and probably never will since the exchange rate is not in our favor. It'd be easier to rent points and pay cash. We did buy where we love to stay, VWL. So if it ever got to the point where we could only stay there, we'd still be totally happy. We have stayed at many of the others and they're all great too. Each one has their silver lining. We bought slightly more points than we would need so we would be in the constant borrowing cycle that some DVC owners end up in. Again, welcome, good luck, and it's definitely worth the wait to save big $$$s over the direct prices if your resort of choice is on the resale market.

Good luck to you with ROFR. I'm right there with you as I enter my 3rd week of waiting for ROFR to pass on a VWL contract, which is my first DVC contract as well. The waiting is hard, but worth it in the end.
