My mom is taking a Med. cruise in october and I'm hoping that she'll pick me up a LV bag while she's in Italy. I'm going to give her the money for it - but what I'm wondering is, if they are really that much cheaper buying there than in the US? Also, someone told me that she can get 12% VAT back on it - I don't know what that means. I also have no idea how much money I should give her LOL There's a bag on the website that's 750.00. I am wondering how that would compare in price to buying it in Rome?

Any info would be great - I have no idea what to tell her. :)

It's the delightful Monagram PM is that makes a difference.

Lucky you, I absolutely love LV and have three bags as they are collectors items - well that's my excuse. I have found the Lv bags are the same price wherever you go. In the US they are exactly the same price as in London. I was in Geneva recently and bought an LV scarf and that was the same price as in London. The only difference was the tax back which I claimed, but you need to ask for the forms when purchasing the bag. Many upmarket shops like LV will not offer the forms readily as they assume that if you can afford their bags then you don't need the tax back, thus not offending the client:confused3

Maybe you can check on some websites, this is a good one http://www.reidsguides.com/t_mo/t_mo_vat.html

Hope you enjoy your new bag:thumbsup2

I agree, I don't think it will be cheaper, but you should be able to claim the tax back so it may save you some. You do have to pay it upfront and claim it back. I am not sure what the tax is in Italy :confused3

If you look on the Louis Vuitton website choose your location as Italia, and select the e-shopping tab, you can look at the prices directly, although they are in Euros obviously!

Thanks! My friend just went to Rome and got herself a bag, and she told me they were cheaper there because they are made there (and in Paris). I heard that they weren't any cheaper in London. I guess I'll need to figure out the exchange rate and the tax. LOL

Eek. I checked the Italia site, the same bag was 510 Euro. That roughly equals 653 US dollars. So a bit cheaper, but not as cheap as I thought it was going to be. Grr.... I don't know if I'm ready to give up that big of a chunk for a bag. I might just have to stick with D&B for a while.
