hoping for a last minute cancellation - is this too risky?

I can get a room at the Disneyland hotel on Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend but there's nothing showing at all for the Sunday night.

Do you think i'm likely to have any luck if we book the Saturday night at DLP that another night will come available nearer the time or even on the day? I would plan to book a refundable room somewhere like Charles De Gaulle Airport incase it all goes wrong, but with the kids in tow, I don't really want to be changing hotels every night.

Any thoughts? Am I just being too ambitious in hoping that a room will come available over the next 10 days?

Thanks

With the 15th celebrations the parks and hotel occupancy seem to be on the up.
Fingers crossed you may get lucky, but I think it is a good plan to have an alternative lined up just in case :)

I would personally try to get a room in another hotel as it is too big a risk.

Thanks for the tips... but I called this morning and they've had some last minute cancellations.

As such, I had a choice of a honeymoon suite, resort suite or regular room at the New York hotel! Disneyland hotel is still showing as sold out...

Have booked the resort suite (overlooking the lake) and will keep calling back to see if we can switch. Apparently the cancellations are released to reservations department at 1130 CET each day!

I'm confused now.
So there still have been NO cancellations for the Disneyland hotel and you followed our advice and booked another hotel, right?

That's right. Expedia had one night at the Disneyland hotel, but Disney have had a cancellation at the New York hotel, so they can give me the whole weekend. Best thing is that because it's booked direct with Disney, they seem happy to transfer the money across onto another booking if you're upgrading...

I can live with a 3-5 minute walk to the park gates, although with the kids along the Disneyland hotel still has advantages.

Great news and thanks for letting us know how you got on.
pixiedust: that you may get lucky and change your HNY booking to Disneyland Hotel, although I'm sure you will not be disappointed at staying at HNY :)

When we decided to spend 2 extra nights at DLP instead of going to our campsite as planned we went to City Hall to ask if theyd anything available and were surprised that they couldnt just check availability online but needed to phone somewhere. Unfortunately they said there was no availability at all in the onsite hotels or at DCR but in the end we got a room at Holiday Inn.
