I am so excited.. Now We have to wait until 2005 to find out if New York outbids Toronto, Rome, Rio, etc. for the games in 2012. I know it is 10 years away.. but it will be in my backyard!!!:bounce:

I am obviously NOT HAPPY that San Francisco did not get the US bid, but I still hope the NY gets the 2012 games. I hope all the athletes enjoy the HUMIDiTY!!!!

if the games are awarded based on enthusiasm, we win hands down.

guess the oylmpic committee will watch the amrathon tomorrow with an eye towards 2012.

I just saw this and I am excited but the thing that frightens me about this is I will be pushing 50!!!
Gasp, choke, sputter!!!

Congrats! Hope the IOC picks them....anyone know who they are up againest?

While I'm excited about this - am I the only one who thinks OMG what a traffic horror this will be if NY hosts? :D

Congratulations! I'm not surprised at all.

Oh, this is perfect for me. Close enough to drive, but thankfully not in my neighborhood. :) We have enough traffic problems around here, thank you very much.

I sure hope New York wins!

That's New York and NOT New Jersey, right?

I think they're planning on using Giants Stadium.

Giants Stadium and the Nassau Coliseum on LongIsland both figure in the plans, but the majority if the events will be within the 5 boroughs. Olympic Village will be in Queens.

the chief competition is Rome, Moscow, Toronto and Rio.

i am excited, would love to go if they get picked but scared to think that is the perfect place for the terrorists to attack again, think about it, maybe I am wrong but that scares me. :(

That's fine with me, as long as they don't plan to leech off of any of NJ's facilities. Last I heard, they wanted to use our facilities, but not give us any credit/billing. Sorry, can't have your cake and eat it too, NY. If you want to do this, do it on your own.

It is cool news, but I still appreciated Jimmy Fallon's joke on SNL news last night: "That gives us 10 years to get the hell out of here." ;)

As a native of New York, I should be excited for this decision, but I think it's going to be a traffic nightmare. I have read the plans for it, etc. and I think it's still going to be a nightmare. I've read that because it's summer time 1 million New Yorkers will not even be using the mass transportation as usual because they will be on vacation. That's fine, but what about the 2 million or so people that will be coming to the town over those two weeks?

I just spent $200 per night at a NYC hotel (Sheraton) last month...can you imagine what that room rate will be in 2012? OMG! :)

Well those of us that live on Long Island have a hard time getting off and back on L.I. on a good day, can't imagine what a nightmare the bridges will be. One would think that's part of the plan. Hey maybe they will finally get the Cross Bronx Expressway paved the proper way LOL!!!!!!!
