Just wondering what the difference is. We will prob. be on the plan anyway and using credits but I noticed that to do Cat. 1 on the plan you have to go to the 9pm show and although our kids don't have a problem staying up that late, it will be a little hard for them to wait to eat until then so we'd prob eat around 4pm or something like that to tide everyone over until the show. Anyone have any experience with it?
And how is the show overall? worth doing? At the time we'll be going (this summer), our kids will be (almost) 10, 8 and 5.5. All three of them have a great sense of humor.
Thanks!

I think Category 2 should be fine. We went this past Jan. and were sitting in Cat. 2. We were on the main floor, off to the side a bit.
We had a great time--the food was decent and the show was cute. My daughter (who was 7 at the time) had a blast!

Have fun!

We went in September and had cat.3....we thought it was great. We were upstairs, the third table from the end and we had an excellent view.

We used the Dining Plan for the 5:00 show this past June and our Category 2 table was located on the main floor just off to the side. We had a excellent view of everything!!! We're booked again for our May 26-June 4 trip and hoping for another great table. :thumbsup2

I think I actually prefer Catagory 3 as the balcony has the best view of the entire stage.

I agree. We were in Cat 3 and had a great view of everything happening. Two of the performers come up and chat with the balcony viewers as well.

I hated being in the balcony, our backs were to the stage and my kids kept going through the banister!
They were plenty large for my 4 year old to get through (which he didn't), but sitting a two year old next to that was a bad idea!
I didn't like the food (i am super picky, no meat on the bone) but my family loved it!
I plan to go again, because my kids just loved it but, I will request NOT to sit upstairs.

Call to make your reservations early on the 180-day mark and definitely go for Cat 1. We've always gotten a table right by the stage and it is well worth the extra.

1) Tables are assigned in the order of when the ressie is made.
2) Within a category, one does not have a choice of table location.
3) Or, lack of location.

If you want Category 1, call on the 180-day mark. You will be right next to the stage. Otherwise, don't bother with Category 1 and go for 2--Once again, right on that 180-day mark.

Good luck!

Since we'll be on the plan, when I call to make the reservation do they just "hold" it with a credit card or do they actually put the charge through and then reverse it when you go?

Just returned -- we had Category 1 seating and were right next to the stage -- it was wonderful!!! I'm not sure we'll do it every trip (and the ribs were pretty overdone by the 9:30 seating), but it was a wonderful show!

I have sat in 1,2 and 3. All the seats are good and I have no preference. I would not go at 9pm just to get cat. 1. It is to late, and I do not think your kids will be as into it. Go at 5 or 7, you'll have a great time!

So, if I reserve cat 2 at the 180 day mark, is there a good chance I will be on the floor and not the balcony? Do they do the balcony last for cat 2? I was going to do cat 1 but I don't want to be right at the stage. I would prefer off to the side. I sat off to the side when I went the last time before they had the categories and I thought the seats were perfect.

I have never been to HDDR! But Because of the great recommendations of dis'ers on here...I have ressies for our May visit.

We aren't doing Disney Dining (for the first time...and NOT because I don't LOVE DD...just had some different ideas for a trip with just 2 of us)...

Booked the 5p HDDR show, Tier 1, and they have already charged my Debit Card.

So it's paid for. I suppose with DD...they would 'hold' with your card...and then reverse when they charge to DD?

Have a magical visit!

We did cat. 1, and were front and center--it was great! That said, I doubt if I'd wait to eat that late.

I did not pay attention to where we sat. I just took what they had. We were in the back and we were fine. I don't think it matters. The actors come throughout the whole place and interract with everyone!

We have booked a cat 3 on the DDP and sat upstairs and thought the seats were just fine.

We did another cat 3 on the DDP this past Aug/Sept. We were very late (SSR bus issues) and it was not sold out. They gave us a Cat 1 table (all the Cat 3s were empty upstairs). What a surprise!

I also got chosen for the skit at the end! It was a blast.
