Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue or Mickey's Backyard BBQ?

I'm trying to decide which of these dinner shows to pick for our family. Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue or Mickey's Backyard BBQ, or both? Can anyone share some opinions on them?

We will be there long enough to fit them both in, if they are both worth doing, but I'd have to cancel something else on another night to do both of them.

The kids will be 9, 7, and 7, and they love shows and character meals.

Thanks!

While we prefer HDDR, by a long shot, it is more because of the age of my children.

HDDR food is much better than MBBBQ. Fried chicken and ribs brought to the table as opposed to getting in line for a buffet where the food is sitting out. Dessert is a no brainer, Strawberry Shortcake vs. Mickey Ice Cream on a stick. It really isn't even close as far the food goes.

The HDDR show is hokey, but the kind of family comedy we love. MBBBQ has characters, but the interaction is not what you might expect. They walk between the tables, but almost never stop for photo ops. They do get on the dance floor, but then it's a mob scene around them. That being said, we did OK there with DD who was 7. She managed to get close enough for video and pictures. DSs (14 and 11) wanted no part of it and played on the giant checker board outside the pavilion.

I suppose it also depends on when you are going. MBBBQ is under a cover, but is outside while HDDR is indoors.

We tried MBBBQ once and I enjoyed the experience, but we will always go back to HDDR since we love it and my kids have outgrown MBBBQ.

I don't think you will walk away from either being disappointed.

Have a great time!

Do not delay anything that adds laughter and joy to your life;I think it is a neat idea:surfweb:

We went to Hddr on our last trip. I wasn't sure how my dh and ds (9) would like it. They both loved it and we plan on going back on our next trip. The one thing we will bring next time is a thin long sleeve shirt with us as we found the AC a bit chilly and we went in August.

Thanks folks!

I'm not the OP but was wondering the same thing. I was leaning towards HDD and you've confirmed it for me.

Gotta LOVE the people here!!!

Next question: we're not on the DDP this time around... is it worth the money for Category 1 seating?

We LOVED Hoop De Doo! We laughed so hard we were in tears much of the time! The food was great and the kids had a great time. We got the cheapest seating, but because we were there in Nov. and it wasn't filled, we were moved closer (there was no one seated upstairs in the balcony). Have a great time!!

We have done both and will never do Mickey's Backyard BBQ again!!! First of all, it is not assigned seating so if you don't get there super early, you will literally be outside the tent. And on a rainy night like we had, it was miserable! Second, it is a buffet. I don't want a buffet for a dinner show. Lastly, you can not get near the characters unless you and your kids are pushy and rude!!! It was a mob to see the characters and people were just walking right in front of others.

Hoop Dee Doo, on the other hand, is always a must do for every trip! Assigned seating, servers, delicious food and hilarious show!!!

Could not have said it any better than this!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HDDR

HATE, HATE, HATE MBBBQ--Honestly, we went the first year this was offered and I am in shock that it still exists. It was that bad.

We LOVE the Cat. 3 seating on the balcony. When I call for reservations, they are always surprised that I request this category. Cat. 1 is on the floor which is all level, and it seems like you would have to look around people. It also always looks really crowded down there. The balcony has tables along the railing with chairs that spin around. You are above the entire show so you can see everything great. Cat. 2 is at the back but on the balcony. You would have a straight on view of the stage, but you are as far away as you can get. We love the Cat. 3 which is on the sides of the balcony.

Do you specifically request balcony railing, or is it automatic if it's open?

Thanks so much for the info!

Thanks, everyone!

I can't book a reservation for HDDR in June yet, but I think I will replace the MBBBQ night with HDDR.
