I will be taking my daughters - ages 23 & 18 - back to WDW for a girls only trip in November. We've never been to either as we have always had the rest of the family and could not afford the cost for 6 people. We want to do one of these but need help deciding which. What are your thoughts?

I've been to both, and while I think the Hoopty Doo Review is quite a blast, for girls in this age range, I would suggest the Poly Luau. Personally, I like the HooptyDoo food better (chicken, ribs, etc), but the drinks at the Luau were great and the show was nice. I can't say that the food at the Luau was exceptional, but just OK.

AKL here we come! June 2008

We went to the luau last April and I really liked it. The luau is more than a luau (true to Disney-style), it is a story/show. We went to one in Hawaii on our honeymoon and actually liked the one at Disney better....the fire dancer is worth it all. The food was awesome!! It was served family-style with all-you-can-eat. The dessert (lava spewing volcano!!) was so good! We aren't doing it this year because we have "been there, done that" and are using a 2TS for Cinderella's castle.

They are two different shows, with the food being good at both of them.

We have done both and are doing both again this May. We're not doing the DDP. so I know how expensive it can be for either one.

My girls are about the same age as yours, my daughter is 17 and my niece is 19. All three of us like each show, that's why I decided to do both.

Do you like more jokes and fried food and the opportunity to participate If so, then HDDR. If your looking for more of a (for lack of better wording) relaxing show, then I would go to the Luau.

You should have fun and good food at either one.

Bony Appetite!

Keep in mind that the luau can be cancelled due to incliment weather. We always go to WDW in June and it rains nearly every day. I've been afraid to book the luau because we would then be without an ADR if it was cancelled.

We've been to the Hoop Dee Doo Review twice and loved it both times! There's lots of singing, dancing and corny jokes. The food was very good...fried chicken, beans, cornbread, bbq ribs, salad and strawberry shortcake.

If you have time before or after the HDDR, you can walk around Fort Wilderness. There is a store, a petting zoo, stables and pretty scenery.

I have done both HD review 10 years ago it was ok ..and the Laua last week was a MUST see ....great time vibe and there really is not a bad seat in the house great location ...

I vote for Luau. The Hoop De Doo food is your typical southern greasy fried foods that I grew up with my whole life and am no longer interested in. At the luau they have a great rotisserie chicken and some great veggies. My mom was there not too long ago and ordered a drink and it came in a coconut husk, like the glass was set down inside of it, and on the husk it has a monkey face carved in it. She kept the husk and it's really cute! I feel that the entertainment is better at the Luau as well. I don't know your family, but I think with the ages, the Luau might be better enjoyed.
