Going to WDW first week of April and wondering if it is worth doing the Hoop Dee Doo musical review. We have never been and I have been hearing pros and cons. Any advice?

I am a con on this one. We went to it back in December 2002 and hated it. It was just too hokie (sp?) and corny for our taste. Tickets cost us almost $50 and we really walked out at the end feeling ripped off. Alcohol is included in the purchase but we don't drink.

I will tell you this, people who had young children seemed to enjoy it but we didn't. I tell everyone to try it at least once as you never have to go back if you don't like it.

we go about every other year. it is corny, but a lot of fun! we have reservations for may w/another veteran wdw couple. so, i say go for it!

I can't believe someone else (yecats) says it is hokey. My family ages 47, 15, 12, 9 could not believe that I spent that money for the show. The food was plentiful but average. I though it was great. I love the broad slapstick humor. I liked the interaction between the entertainers and the people celebrating their special occassions. But remember this is not for all. Only you know your family. I knew mine but I took a chance and it did not sit well.

We went in July 2003. Myself, DH, my mother, DS11 & DS7. We had a great time. My DH had fun. He is the one that I thought would have a problem with it. I would say try it.

Oh, ya gotta do it once ! It's verrrrrry corny, but I'm always happy to see even teenagers who let down there "cool" for awhile and seem to get into it.

The food isn't, shall we say, the best in WDW.

I say try it....we went July 2002 with DH, DS 14 at the time with his friend also 14 and DD 10. The two boys really thought is was "corny" but they were having fun by the end. We had a lot of laughs. If you don't like it you never have to go back, but you might always wonder, would we have liked it. Good luck with your decision.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I thought Disney World was SUPPOSED to be hokey!;) Isn't that what we all love about it? Complete manufactured fantasy geared toward different tastes and budgets (Shhh, maybe everyone doesn't want to hear that the castle isn't real...), helping us get back in touch with the inner child...

Do the HDDR, let down your guard, laugh it up and have a GREAT time!

Oh, yeah...the food is actually DELICIOUS, just not fancy. Fried chicken and ribs in buckets, unlimited beer and sangria...if you like more elegant fare, have it a different night, or for lunch that day.
:D

For us, no. It's one of the few WDW expenses that I just cannot justify. I can think of so many other things I'd rather spend that amount of money on. If the show appeals to you, go for it. There is just nothing about it that excites me.
JMHO...

We went in 2001 to Hoop De Doo with our DD's aged 8 and 12 at the time, and another family with an 8 yr old DS and 4 yr old DD. We thought it was good, but not worth that much money ... I just didn't think it was as great as it sounded like it would be. Littler kids seemed to be loving it! The other family went back again the last time they went to WDW and loved it again! We personally had a lot more fun in the Whispering Canyon Cafe and Chef Mickeys. but neither of them are really "stage shows."

I'd say try it if you like cornball, yeehah humor and have extra $$ that you won't mind spending if you're not thrilled with the show.

Have a happy visit!

I was once, I was Davey's angel in show.We love the show and the fried chicken is great. We arrive on Sunday's to start our WDW vacation's and our first night we always go to HDDR it now part of our WDW first day tradition. So we have been 17 times and have seen the cast change over the year's but all have done a good job with the material.Hey go and maybe you will be chosen to be part of the show and you will become a Pioneer Hall Player and you will get a picture and certificate of your stage performance.:wave2:

We've been to HDDR at least 8 times.

Our family loves it! The first time we went DS was 7 and put in the show. My DF was in the show that time too. A few years later DD was the can-can dancer in the show. DH and I danced there for our 32nd wedding anniversary. We have seen the cast change over the years but always have had fun. (I have to say the fella who played Slocum, on 02/11/04 was the funniest we've ever seen) The food is salad, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, baked beans, corn and strawberry shortcake. The price has gone up over the years but....you're in WDW! Where else can you find this kind of dinner show?

So I say go! Make some magical memories!

I think you should try it at least once. Show is corney, certainly, but entertaining. And the food, tho not great, is plentiful. All in all, not a bad way to spend a few hours.
We wind up doing it every 5 years or so.

We've been to the Hoop Dee Doo quite a few times and we've enjoyed it each time. Sure it's corny but it's a lot of laughs and entertaining. I love the fried chicken, my husband is a big fan of the ribs. I say try it at least once. :D

I vote to go! It is corny but a lot of fun. We've been there twice and would go again if we could afford it. We like the fried chicken and the strawberry shortcake. The kids really get into the show and although we haven't been back for 3 years, they still talk about the show and characters

I too vote go! Yes, it's corny-- but the cast is very talented and the whole deal is just FUN. I live in metro Atlanta so we see lots of live theater -- so this wasn't exactly a new experience but it was our first day at Disney before hitting parks and it was a great warm-up. We went last month (1/04) and had a central table and got, shall we say, "noticed" a lot! One of the women sat in DH's lap (he loved that of course) and she said, "Hi handsome! You didn't tell me you were married!" Our DS's ages 4 and 6's eyes were huge as saucers!

Then later they gave DS-6 a part, he went onstage (DH and DS-4 were in the bathroom and missed the entire thing) but DS-6 got stage fright backstage when I suppose they were telling him about his part, and one of the servers had to bring him back to the table bless his heart. He got a certificate.

I know things like extra attention are hit or miss, and the things that happened to us made it more fun, but we'd have enjoyed it anyway. They do interact a lot with the audience as a whole and that makes it different and fun.

Food is fine-- if not memorable, pretty satisfying I thought.

Do it for the same reason we all do Disney-- because it's fun!

I went to this show with my parents & little brother at least 3 times when we were younger. He got picked to go up on the stage during some part of the show. My family has always really enjoyed this show & I remember enjoying the food - not sure if maybe it has changed in recent years, though.

My husband & his family have also visited HDDR many times & always enjoyed it.

Now that it's just hubby & me going - and we are on a tight budget - we haven't gone yet. We already have a hard time narrowing down our restaurant selections & I'd rather bring home another t-shirt or 2 for the price of HDDR.

If you've never been - it's a great show to try. It's an enjoyable experience. HTH! :D

We tried Hoop for the first time last May, DH, Myself, and 3 DD's 9, 5 and 2. We thought the food was really good, and we laughed so hard the tears were streaming!! We made our reservations six months in advance, so we had a table right next to the stage. Six Bits kept flirting with me, which had my girls in stitches. It was one of the best memories of our whole trip and we can't wait to go back again. Yes, it is expensive. For us, it was totally worth it.
