Hoop-de-doo if we didn't like Trail's End food?

We tried Trail's End Buffet only once, back in 2004, and we really didn't like it. We thought the quality of food was like the local Country Buffet with a smaller selection. Could've been an off-night, but it was bad enough that we didn't give it a second chance.

After about a dozen trips to WDW in the last 7 years though, we still haven't done a dinner show and I was thinking of trying Hoop Dee Doo. Is the food exactly the same as Trail's End?

I have not eaten at TE, but I can tell you about HDDR. The food is served family style and it is fried chicken that is comparable to KFC (we like it!), ribs, a small, plain house salad, baked beans (nothing special) and strawberry shortcake that is average. I think we had corn bread too. The meal was pretty much average, but most people go for the entertainment first, the food is secondary. I thihk you would find it similar to Old Country Buffet, Ryan's, or MCL Cafeteria. It's not bad, but it's not exactly Epcot dining.

ETA....Hit quote instead of reply, Sorry!

the salad was not plain, it had a vinagerette dressing. there was corn on the cob. the chicken was much better than KFC or Old Country Buffet. they kept bringing out more of whatever you liked, and beer and wine was included. as was the tip! (but we tipped extra, those servers work so hard!)
I def. recommend it! and fun! not just a meal, an experience. (if you don't like the chicken for whatever reason, eat more of the other things, and yes, there was delicious corn bread)

We went to HDD a few weeks ago and were very disappointed with the food. The show is fun, but don't expect a great meal. I guess we had a salad, but if we did, it didn't make an impression on me. We had cornbread that was average, instant mashed potatoes, baked beans that were very sweet, below average fried chicken and cardboard-tasting ribs. The strawberry shortcake was okay, not great. It's just not my kind of food, but DH always had liked the food there until this year. I noticed the kids at the table beside of us telling the waitress they didn't like their food, and she brought them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I wish I had asked for one, too.

To my knowledge the food for Trails End, Hoop De Doo and the Backyard BBW all comes from the same kitchen, so if you weren't keen on it from one place you likely won't enjoy it in another.

Thanks for all the input. I'm guessing we won't like the food much. Now I have to decide whether the experience is worth 2 dining credits!

We love the show. The food is okay. I pay oop to avoid the dining credit problem. :flower3:

It has been several years since we ate there but I want to echo the fun part. One of my all time favorite memories of WDW was hearing the laugh from my then 7-8 year old daughter. I can't even remember what she was laughing at but I think it was one of the few times I ever heard her laughing with such a deep belly laugh. It is a special memory.

We are in cat 1 seating....just wondering if you can let anyone know ahead of time that you have a family member you'd like to see picked to go up on stage?

Emily

I don't know about advising them in advance. We were in Category 1 seating and my nephew was picked to be the Indian. We hadn't said anything, they just picked him. I guess you could let your server know, but I would think there are few assurances that such a message will actually get to the show cast, which does the picking.
