The only seating that we could get for the HDDR for our October trip was Category 3 (we are on the DDP). I know these are in the balcony but they could only book us at two separate tables - we are a party of 6 including 4 kids.

Can anyone describe how the tables are laid out up there? Will it be a problem for them to push two together for our party. Also, what about the view?

Thanks!

The balcony is shaped like a squared "U", with the open end being the stage. The part of the "U" facing the stage is for Category 2 people who don't fit downstairs on the main floor. The other two sides of the "U", the way I understand it, are for Category 3. All the tables in the balcony are only one-deep, so you're not looking past someone's head (unless in your own group).

We were upstairs facing the stage and were a party of 6, all at one table. Did they tell you they'd have to split you up?:confused3

All the CM said is that our reservation was for "separate tables". I assume they will try to accomodate us but put that disclaimer on in case it doesn't work with all the reservations they have booked.

Was the view ok up there? Did they come to visit up there, too? I assume they may visit our table as 5 of the 6 (just not me) are celebrating birthdays within our disney vacation week.

Since you will be on the side, I guess it will depend on how close to the stage you are. It's like sitting in some box seats for a play at a theatre--you might not be able to see things right underneath you. When we were there, 3 performers came upstairs, one for each side and one for the side facing the stage, to interact with the birthday people. So I'd think they'd be upstairs at least for that part.

I've done HDDR both in the balcony and on the floor. The only reason I enjoyed the floor seats better is because we were literally right next to the stage, so we got lots of interaction with the characters. Other than that we enjoyed the experiences equally. I wouldn't worry about being in the balcony. I would, however, want to get my family together. I don't recall there being any reason tables couldn't be moved together because, as someone stated, the tables in the balcony are one deep and all along the railing. I'd call back and get clarification.

I hope it works out for you. HDDR is my family's FAVORITE thing at WDW.

My sister went last week and said Category 3 was the best. She was offered to upgrade for $10 a person but saw no reason to spend the extra money.

. . . it all depends how the tables before you are booked
. . . some tables only seat 4
. . . one could assume the 6-tables were already booked when you called
. . . you might be next to each other
. . . or, across the room from each other

. . . 1/2 the people will have to crane their necks to see
. . . some of the guests will have a post in their view
. . . birthdays are celebrted en-mass
. . . everyone with one stands at the same time
. . . the show performers do get upstairs, so you can see them
. . . they typically so not stop at a table because there is a birthday
