I've been reading lots of reviews about this and how entertaining it is. However, many jokes tend to go over my daughter's head (putting it mildly), and she also has pretty moderate ADHD so her attention span regarding 'shows' tends to be limited (she LOVED La Nouba, but fell asleep during The Blue Man Group). Should we hold off on HDD for another couple of years? Was originally planning on SOA, but thinking we're going to scratch that idea off the list.

A young child may not get al of the adult level jokes but they will surely enjoy the music, excitement and the frivolity. My little one was a HUGE Wiggles fan at the time we first went and she talked about the Wiggles show for a long time after we went. Well, they did have yellow, blue, red and purple outfits and they sang and danced.

all of our group of 14 including kids age 4 months, 2.5 years, 4.5 years, 7 years and 11 years all had a great time. between the music, dancing, jokes and coming out in the hall had all watching

My son is 8 and is on the spectrum and has ADHD so sometimes word play with inflection is difficult for him to pick up the humor in. Here he was watching the show:

He had a great time. The Six Bits character has a lot of physical and silly humor... some of what they say is more double entendre but there is still plenty of silliness that would appeal to all... you don't need to "get it", it is just silly and funny. The things that you might need to "get" they drag out and exaggerate for effect. It's a really fun time.

That's awesome and thank you for sharing! :)

I wouldn't hesitate to take a 10-year old. Our first time, my kids were 5, 8 and 10 and they still love it as teenagers. As others have mentioned, the humor is on many levels, but the music and the silliness have you laughing with the actors at any age. The food also good for a child of that age.

Thank you all - I added it to the list in place of SOA! Do we have to boat to MK then boat to fort wilderness? We'll likely go on our resort day and are staying at the Poly

Or, you could monorail around to the Contemporary and then take the boat directly from there..

When we stayed at the GF, we took the monorail to the Contemporary and then the boat over to Fort Wilderness.
Last time we stayed in at the Poly, we took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, then the boat over to Fort Wilderness.
I can't say that one got us there quicker than the other. In fact, when we got to the MK, we were lucky in the fact that the boat was just pulling in.
But the Contemporary boat was much less crowded.

Just to add to relieve thinking your daughter's reaction. My son was 13 the first time we took him to Hoop Dee Do. I included him in the planning and he said he would only go for the food, nothing else as the entertainment would stink (well, he used a stronger word). And he seriously drug his heels getting into the boat to get over to Fort Wilderness. He pouted on the porch while we waited for the doors to open. He grumbly sank into his seat when we were at our table.

Um, at the end of the night, he wouldn't let me have the freaking washboard that was at our table and HE was the was the playing along.

I've been to HDDR 5 times. The first when my son was 5 the last when he was 12. We are going this August and at 14, he got angry with me when I suggested we skip it. This is a must do every trip. I wouldn't hold off at all. Go now... go twice!
