Hong Kong no Phooey TR (Apr 2012)! The Yee's have it....TR finish #1101, 07/09

Well, if you ask mom , maybe she will help you pack..:rolleyes1

You get to visit with family , that is extra bonus. I like doing nothing the last day, as you can go back an redo something that you didnt have enough time for. Very nice of the sims card:thumbsup2 Take plenty of pictures of the shopping in the airport, that doesnt cost a thing. :lmao:

It's been a very long time since my mom packed for me. There is NO WAY I'm going that far back into childhood memories and long-forgotten habits! :sad2:

Just 1 week... That is so great. I am excited for you..:cheer2:

I'm excited for me too!

All depends on what you're getting I guess...and the offers at the department stores...

I was of course comparing AIRPORTS... :rolleyes1

I got DBF a larger size of his cologne not available in regular stores for cheaper too...

YAY for the countdown....

Although...

I know you're actually terrified! Hope you made use of today and do of tomorrow :thumbsup2

If we do end up early at the airport, I'll be wandering into the Shanghai Tang Departmental store at HK airport with interest. No doubt I would have found my way into the store in Hong Kong so I'll be interested to see if there is any difference in price from the retail premise to the airport premise.

:scratchin Actually....I'm going on HOLIDAY to HONG KONG. :yay: Terrified is not the word for it....and I have no idea why you would think this at all. :confused3

Just meant in terms of fitting in all the stuff you want to do pre trip

Oh.....yes, that would be close enough to the truth.

I'm putting in extra hours at work; pro-bono, in order to get things done. :faint:

The trip itself? I've decided that as long as I have enough underwear for all of us and remember to take my camera, I can probably buy what I need there.

So have you reached your post count goals for this forum yet? :confused3

:lmao::rotfl2: :lmao:

Close enough.

When we started, there was about 600 posts on the Hong Kong subforum. I figured we could double it by the time I headed off. I think this subforum is sitting at over 1100 posts now.

Thanks for helping me everyone!! :yay:

And whilst I'm here.

Just a little progress update on the weekend activity.

I called up Hong Kong Disney again this weekend with the aim of paying out my outstanding Disney accommodation. Most of us that travel to the Disney locations in the US are used to the Disney rules of having things paid off before arrival; particularly if on a package deal ( must be paid 45 days before arrival).

Who would have thought that this was a foreign concept for HK Disneyland?

The CM that I spoke to tried to talk me out of doing payment in full prior to arrival. Turns out that Asian travellers are happy to pay for 1 night accommodation and the balance on arrival. :confused3

Anyway, 10 minutes later....my 3 nights accommodation and my park tickets are now PAID in FULL.

My hotel in Kowloon was already paid up sometime in mid January and my plane fares are long since been accounted for. I also settled travel insurance in mid January.

So this means that all the big ticket items are done. :thumbsup2

I've also gotten Hong Kong currency and some Chinese Yuan changed. And we're still loading up money into the travel card. But we've probably got enough to cover food and some of the various entertainment/entry that I plan on doing.
When we get to Hong Kong, we plan on getting ourselves the Octopus Cards and we've decided we will also load extra cash on there as we can use the card like a debit card for some food/shops.

I think we're covered from a currency and card perspective too.

I've also added to my impossibly large range of handsets as well. Not that I needed another handset....but I got myself a quad band Android phone; to go with that 3G SIM card that I got sent from Hong Kong. At some stage, I'll activate the SIM card and check out the phone.

That will mean that DH and I will be 'mobile' from the get-go.

Memory cards have also been on my hit-list. I've added to my stash and now have about 16GB worth of memory cards for my camera. DH has another 8GB for his. If we need more, we'll pick up extra cards in Hong Kong. I'm thinking that 16GB might just about cover me for the Disney component....:lmao:
I think the DisDads (if they are lurking and you know who you are) have requested that I have a MINIMUM of 10 pages of just HKDL photographs to post.

:scratchin I personally think that 10 pages may be overkill...but I'm not completely ruling it out at this stage....yet.....I think.....maybe.....

Aside from packing, I think we're nearly ready for this trip.

I am glad you will have phone access. Your going to have so much fun. I am sure you will have fun shopping for undies? Sounds like you just have to wait out the week. I hope it goes by very quick!:thumbsup2

Yay. Six more days. How funny that the CM tried to talk you out of pre-paying. I want to see lots of pictures too.

I checked out that HKDL TR that you posted a link to, and with my crappy internet I couldn't hardly get though 5-6 pages. I don't do well with pictures. On TRs like yours and Brandi's I have to view them by individual posts because the connection times out before everything can download. I can't wait until I come back from my WDW fall trip. We can probably kill our cruddy internet by then and sign up with something fast like FIOS.

It's always a good feeling to know the trip is paid for, although with DVC it usually is. :rolleyes1

It cracks me up that you are so concerned about memory sticks etc. We have other concerns that I won't go into on the DIS or at least not off the DISabilities board. We can not say "if I forget it, they will have it" because some of our stuff is just too specialized!

Woo hoo it sounds like you're all set, the next 6 days will fly by. We'll all be waiting to see the awesome pictures we know you'll be taking.

I am quite surprised that is all the memory you travel with. You are much more camera happy than me.

Shopping all done. I think we all have enough. The week is going to fly past as I have a bucketload of work to push out before I go.

I know. It took me a couple of minutes to realise that she was serious about wanting me to wait until I checked in! :rotfl:

 My dad is a walking pharmacy when he travels. So, whilst I won't need scooters or anything like that, I have similar concerns identical to why you had to cancel the F&W trip last year. Thankfully, he's even more organised than me and when I checked on Thursday, he was good to go.

For the sake of work, I hope the next 6 days don't fly by too fast.

Yes I had to restrain myself here. Memory is cheaper to buy in Hong Kong and is one of those things that I'm happy to pick up when I need it.

I always travel with an 8G or 16G memory card for the big camera and a 2G for the small one. DH likes to upload pictures to the laptop whenever we travel anyway. It seems like I took a lot of pictures last trip, but the 8G and 2G cards held up. He never even did an upload. You'll be fine without buying more I bet.

The plan is to travel light; so we won't be taking a laptop with us so I suspect that you might lose that bet. :rolleyes1

I'm pretty heavy on the camera and with taking pictures. Plus I set my pictures to high resolution. I had 3 days at WDW in October 2010 and came home with with nearly 1600 pictures. If I think I'm going to go through 300 or 400 pictures per day, over the 10 - 12 days I may end up with quite a few.
