After seven years together, I finally married the love of my life! It was something we put off for a while, but we threw together a small ceremony on a month and a half notice. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our plans for a fall Disney World trip to pay for it.

Now my wife and I are thinking about maybe doing a belated honeymoon in Disney World, probably this January. I browsed through some older posts in the Gay and Lesbian section and didn't find much. The two of us have been to Disney World and absolutely loved it. No one seemed to care if we held hands and we met so many amazing, supportive cast members. I don't know if reactions would be different if we were wearing honeymoon buttons and bridal Mickey hats.

Has anyone here Honeymooned in Disney World? Would you recommend it? We loved staying at Port Orleans Riverside... Should we go back there or would you recommend somewhere else to stay? Restaurant recommendations? What would you do to make the most of your honeymoon?

Congratulations on your wedding! :goodvibes Especially on planning it within a month and a half!

My intention isn't to hijack your thread, but we're also thinking of a 'Disneymoon' and would be interested to hear from other LGBT couples that have had their honeymoon at WDW.

What were your experiences - positive/negative? Where did you stay? Did you get specific actual honeymoon package or book as a normal vacation?

We'd also like to wear the 'Happily Ever After/Just Married' pins and Bridal Hats, but we're nervous about other peoples potential negative reactions...Does anyone have experience in this situation?

We did not honeymoon at WDW (but we did at Aulani a couple of weeks ago, and it was awesome).

We did, however, go to WDW to celebrate our engagement. We got the pins and everything! When we arrived at the resorts, we were congratulated by the CMs who checked us in (we split-stayed at Pop and Polynesian). They didn't even blink when we asked for a one king bed room.

At the park, we also experienced positive vibes from both guests and CMs. The characters we met high-fived us or hugged us when they saw the just engaged pins we wore. One Photopass Photograher even went out of his way to take about 20 shots of us at Animal Kingdom.

Not a very big PDA person, we didn't really do anything besides holding hands. And some people will look, but none of them said anything to us. We figured, it was their problem, and we won't ever see them again anyway so who cares.

You will have an awesome time. Disney is a great place to be yourself. I used to be very cautious about it when we first started going to WDW as a couple (we go about once a year), but then I realized, most of my issues are self-inflicted...that's when we started having fun :)

Congratulations!

I think Disney World is a fantastic place to "Disneymoon," for all couples. My fiancé and I (we're both ladies) are having our wedding reception at WDW this December and then staying after for a few days for a Disneymoon. We go to the world quite frequently as we're DVC owners, and the worst that's ever happened from others was a couple of strange looks while we were holding hands. You'll see lots of other LGBT couples there as well.
The cast members are fantastic, we've had the photo pass photographers have us kiss in front of france in EPCOT or in front of the castle for pictures. A lot of cast members are family as well.
If Disney is your dream honeymoon, then I say go for it!!

Congratulations Karen! You're not hijacking, it's potentially useful information for a lot of people.

The gay and lesbian forum has been great for general information about how people tend to react, and just browsing and hearing people's personal experiences eased my concerns about holding hands and being out somewhere I was unfamiliar with. I think you and I have the same concerns in regards to reactions, and considering that honeymooning couples tend to be a little more affectionate or showy I think it's worth addressing for anyone considering honeymooning there.

Congratulations all around! EK4636 on your recent wedding and OnceUponAMelodye on your pending nuptials! It's always great to hear some positive affirmations. I think we're going to go for it!

That's great news! I hope you both have a wonderful time!

You're spot on about us having the same concerns about feeling comfortable in the parks whilst showing affection, and like you, the forum
Information has given us more confidence to be ourselves!
