We seem to be getting up later and later as the honeymoon progresses!! This morning we didn't get up until 8:45. We heated up breakfast (pop-tarts) in the food court at the ASMu with coffee in our refillable mugs. We jumped on the MGM bus and were there by 10:15. (We had meant to be there for rope drop - oh well, guess we needed that extra sleep!!)
We were really excited about touring MGM! It was the 1 park (besides MK of course!) that I was really excited about.
First thing inside the park we decided to head towards Twilight Zone's Tower of Terror. Honestly we were a little disappointed. I figured it would have more "theme" to it - more like a haunted house. It was good but not as good as we had expected. The crowds were a little longer but still awfully good. I was a little nauseous afterwards but okay as I had taken my motion sickness pills.
We stopped at the Rock n' Roller Coaster but decided not to go on it. I had gotten sick on the Hulk Coast at Islands of Adventure the day before and we did not want to chance that again!! Well it'll be something new to do next time!
There was an showing of Beauty and the Beast starting so we went in to watch. This is Glen's fav Disney movie and he was enthralled! It was great - especially the barbershop quartet that started the show off!
When the show ended we decided to try Star Tours. As this was the other rough ride in the park I wanted to do it while I was still well drugged with Bomine and before we ate. It was good. A little rough and missing a storyline, but good. Of course Glen loved all the Star Wars memorabilia.
The next stop was the Muppet Vision 3-d. This is also one of Glen's favorites. He actually owns Muppet movies (by now I'm wondering why I married this guy...). This is a great attraction! When we came out Miss Piggy and Kermit were just arriving so Glen needed some shots with them of course!! We missed the hidden key. I forgot when we came out and I wasn't sure where to look. We went back but didn't see it.
By this time we were hungry so we found a shady table outside Toy Story Pizza Planet and ate our bagels we had brought in. For dessert we had some ice cream. I LOVED those chocolate caramel ice cream bars!!
After lunch we decided to do the backlot tour. (Luv those Coke bottles!!) We were a little disappointed in this. I was hoping there would be some more famous backdrops than there was. It was cool but not as exciting as I thought it would be. Thanks to a tip from the Disboards we spend some time at the end of the touring opening the crates!!
From the backlot tour we did Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It was really cool! The first contestant was a guy from Houston. He missed the second question which was a really easy math question. The next guy up was his brother!! He did really well! I can just imagine how much ribbing the first brother must have gotten!! The second brother was so funny making jokes of the host and his brother! It was great!
We headed over to see the Magic of Disney Animation. It was very informative. The whole process just boggles the mind! This was a nice way to cool off!
It was about time for the parade but Glen wanted to skip it. I would have seen it but he was getting bored with the parades. So we headed to Walt Disney - One Man's Dream. What a tearjerker!! He was such a genius!! WOW!
The last stop before supper was the Great Movie Ride. I loved this! It was probably my favourite in the park. I wanted to go a second time but Glen didn't want to. It was another walk on - the crowds were so low.
We were starved so even through it was a tad early we headed to our PS at th 50s Cafe. I would highly recommend this restaurant! I loved the decor! It was so cool!! We were a little disappointed in our server. He did no play acting at all. Some of the other tables looked like they were having so much fun!! We purposely wore our honeymoon ears trying to get some attention (we're shameless!!) or priority seating for Fantamsmic but no such luck! I had the meatloaf and Glen had the fried chicken dinner. We both had floats and shared s'mores for dessert. It was a awesome meal!!
I wanted to stay and have a drink in the lounge but Glen didn't want to so we headed over to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids movie set. I just wanted to take a peek. We took a look around - I wanted to see the dog nose that sniffed your hand - I did - it was cool! - but we seem to be in the way of the munchkins so we didn't stay long.
We stopped in at Drew Carey's but it was having technical difficulties so we headed on. We were disppointed that there were no more showings of either the Hunchback or Indiana Jones. I wanted to redo Tower of Terror but Glen didn't. He was starting to get crabby and my feet were killing me. It had been a long 10 days of go go go. Especially since we rarely stopped for lunch. We decided we would have to do another half day here to get all the shows done so we just headed to Sunset Boulevard to look thru the shops.
The crowds were all moving to the Fantasmic theatre at a pretty fast rate (it was 7) so we thought we better go snag a seat. We got good seats and relaxed with a cold drink.
Fantasmic was undescribable. How do you tell others about it if they have never seen it? It's definately a must see! WOW!
I was kind of dreading the bus back to the ASMU after the fiasco last week getting home from Fantasmic Gardens. I figured it would take forever to get out of the park and on to a bus. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient Disney transportation was. We were Home by 9;15 or so.
We went for a quick dip in the pool and decided to order a pizza to our room. I kept thinking that we should be out doing the bars more as we are young and on our honeymoon however by the time we spend a long day in the parks it was nice to come back and cool off in the pool and kick back and munch on a snack in the room.
Our impressions of MGM - neither Glen or I had been here before. After reading all the Disney books I was so excited about MGM. Many things fell short of my actual expectations. It was a great park but honestly Universal Studios was a bit better. By the way what happened to Backstage Pass and the American Film Institute Showcase? Neither one of these were open.
