I can get a rate at the Homewood Suites by the San Diego airport for $169 a night in August. It is in a convenient location, has a really good rate compared with many San Diego hotels and is the #1 rated hotel in San Diego on tripadvisor.

So what am I missing here? It seems to good to be true?

We didn't stay at that Homewood Suites but we stayed at the one in Del Mar. It was the best experience we've ever had at a hotel, we arrived at midnight after gettting lost and phoning the hotel a few times. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and gave us a room at the end of a hall which worked great because there was a door right to the parking lot so we didn't have to drag 5 kids through the lobby everytime. When we arrived there was a light out and the guy from the front desk fixed it immediately. The breakfast was excellent and free! They had eggs, hashbrowns, cereal, toast, waffles, yogurt, granola bars and fresh juice. There was always fresh lemonade in the lobby as well. I remember the price was very reasonable when I booked it but once we got the service we did I think the price was quite a deal!

Good Luck!

We stayed at a Homewood Suites in Palm Springs and totally loved it. It had one bedroom with a king bed, one with two double beds, and a living room/big kitchenette in the middle (there might have been a sofabed). Great setup. I would totally stay in one again.

The 2-bedroom suites at the airport Homewood Suites in San Diego only had a king in one room and a queen the another -- not enough beds for our situation. The one in Del Mar was farther away from where we wanted to be. While I was looking around, I had a room in Del Mar on hold. We ended up renting a 3-bedroom condo on Mission Bay that priced out a little cheaper than the Homewood Suites in Del Mar with a better location and more room.

If the bedroom situation isn't a problem for you, it is probably a good bet. Make sure that great price is for the type of room you want. It is VERY near the airport and near a busy boulevard, but is close to downtown and pretty new.

Good luck,
