My daughter will be a freshman this year and her and her friends are already looking for Homecoming dresses. She is my first girl in high school, so I havent had to deal with this yet. Im wondering if there is somewhere to find cute yet budget dresses. Im looking for $100 or under. Of course all the dresses she likes are well over $200. The dresses she looks at reminds me of what I would of worn to prom. I can see spending that much on a Junior/Senior prom, but freshman homecoming? We live in an area where there really are not many great stores to dress shop, so we would probably have to purchase online. Anyways, would love suggestions.

She is looking for a short, strapless, poofy dress in any color size 0-4.

Thanks!

Resale shops. Formal dresses are usually worn once so they're in good shape. I have grown boys, but I have friends who have done this. My DIL loves vintage dresses and finds them this way too.

Yes, feel free to PM me! Ive looked at those on a local FB page, but she doesnt want to wear a dress that someone around here wore within the last few years, which I guess makes since.

Jcpenney, Deb both have reasonable ones. Also dillards has clearance dresses every year. My DD is a senior this year and has gone every year and I've never paid over $100. She got a $300 prom dress last year for $125 at dillards (clearance rack) and got so many compliments, it was beautiful. You can do it without going used, although there's nothing wrong with that if you find one she likes.

We have a formal gala at my kids' school every year and I was surprised to discover Amazon sells formal dresses. I'll be looking for this year's dress there. I picked up a dress last year from Ross and only paid $25 for it. You just have to go there frequently because selection changes weekly.

This is where my granddaughter likes to shop (online). They do have some dresses in your price range.

I agree with Deb... tons of cute cheap dresses. I was just at our JCPenney yesterday and they had racks of party dresses on clearance for $19.99!!!!!

All of my daughters homecoming dresses were bought at Penney's. between sales and coupons I think I paid a little over $100 for all four years of school. She was especially happy about the dress she got freshman year, between a gift card she had gotten and a coupon and the dress being on sale she paid$3.27 for the dress.

Try Nordstrom.com. They have a bunch of cute juniors dresses $100 or less.

Last year, we bought DD's dress at Peebles. Black cocktail dress off one shoulder with waist black sequins...$16. Yes, it was on the discount rack, but it was meant to be hers. Then we went over to Payless and found a pair of black heels for $7.

She received so many complements. And she laughed her way to the bank with the non-spent budget. (We needed it for military ball and prom--2 floor length, no exposed shoulders on one)

DD#2 is starting HS this year too. When DD#1 was in HS, we'd buy her dresses a season ahead of time on clearance and never paid more than $50. We go to the Deb, JCP, Dillard's or Delia's has a ton of cute ones online too. If you get on the mailing list with Delia's, their catalogs always come with a coupon.

DD has looked a little but we haven't gone out yet. I'm afraid to get hers online because she is right around a 0 and I don't want to have to return it for sizing.

Another mom who shops at Deb and JCPenney. Thanks for reminding me that I'm going to need to take my DD shopping for her homecoming dress soon.

While it has been a few years since DD was a freshman in highschool - she got most of her homecoming and turn-about dresses from Macy's. The highest price she paid was about $70. And - now that she is in college - she is wearing them again!

She got one homecoming dress at Ross, it was $20, got it during the early summer, her jewelry cost more than that. (Not much more, but - it did cost more.)

I would also echo the comments about JCPenney's. My DD got a prom dress there for $30. We never got a homecoming dress there, though.

Another vote for rent the runway. Rent the dress so it's not sitting in a closet for the next 10 years, and get something super stylish that I bet no one in your town has seen before!

Deb around me still has some prom dresses, and as of yesterday they were 80% off at our mall. My DD's friend who is shopping for homecoming got one she loves for $24!

Homecoming dresses were never that big a deal in my area. The only people with really nice dresses were the girls on court. Everyone else had $25-$50 dresses from local department stores or boutiques
