I have a son who was nonverbal until almost 5yo sent to preschool and K in public school and then home schooled for 3 yrs (first -third grade) and did well as long as I read all the subject matter and dictated his answers but I could not get him to read on his own let alone write. In fourth grade I sent him to a special public school and felt as if I let him down.
Fast forward 3 yrs... He was put in the resource room at the regular middle school after they did not give him a para(budget cuts) and he could not do all the classwork on his own all last year and somehow learned to read on his own? He is currently reading Star Wars books. He says the lady(teacher) in the room just let him read whatever he wanted and it just clicked?
Now I am thinking of pulling him back home to try to get him writing and build on the foundation he now has. He has asked to home school do to the way he is treated by the other children and teachers. (He seems(looks) normal to other children until they get to know him and then they seem to hate him...I guess they notice he is a little different ?) When we home schooled him the first time I used McgrawHill and units of intrest and he had speech therapy and I read everything I could to him. I tried hooked on phonics but it never worked.
Now I want something that lets him learn on level but also lets him ketch up where he is so far behind. I need some help finding the write thing. We live in Mo so we have to hit the 5 main subjects and do 600 core hours and a total of 1000. and be able to show a daily log book and lesion plan . Any ideas on what to use? Thanks for any advice. Bobbie
