I do not like it at all!!!! DF has to work until 12pm now (only for until Wed.) but I hate being home alone I hear every little noise.....thankfully I have my cats that will alert me if there is anything out of the norm. I told DF he would find me on the couch when he gets home (either asleep or awake)....

Will you please keep me company?!?!?

You'll get used to it! My DH has worked nights for maybe five years now, and I can tell you, you get used to the noises.

Get a nightly routine and stick with it, it helps at first!

i'm sorry, it does stink at first  but you get used to it. most of the time, my DH works 4:00pm to 2:00am, so DD and i are on our own in the evenings. i promise, it really does get easier. when he first started working this shift, i couldn't go to sleep at all until he got home (about 2:35am), which left me in a zombie-like state the next day, as i had to get up at 5:30am. now, i fall asleep with no problem.

ok girl....tough love :grouphug:

Get those big girls panties on and man up! :rotfl:The odds that someone will hurt you are pretty low. You are a grown woman, lets hear you roar!!!

They're right, OP. You'll get used to the noises. It's a little disconcerting at first, but nothing to worry about.

I'll never forget when I bought my first home. It was just me and my cat. The people who had helped me move in had all gone home. It was storming like crazy and I had no curtains anywhere in the house. I turned on the television to distract myself only to find they were showing The Exorcist. I quickly turned the television off and decided to go to curl up in bed. I heard this banging noise...over and over. Finally, I got up enough nerve to go toward the source of the noise. It was coming from the garage. There was a door to the attic in the garage. The wind from the storm was pulling the door open and then it was slamming down. Needless to say, it was a long night. The next day, I put a latch on the attic door. Can't remember much of anything bothering me since and that was many years ago.

Dh works mostly 3rd shift, some 2nds...and it's usually just me and ds (and sometimes dds). I don't like being alone either but I always make sure all doors and windows are locked. I guess you just get used to it.

I feel your pain! I hate being home alone, but being a military wife, it is sadly more common for DH to be away than to be home.

I am a total wimp, but I've come up with a few things that make being home alone easier. I leave lights on around the house, it isn't great for our electrical bill, but it does make it feel like I'm not the only one home.

I also got myself a white noise machine, if you can fall asleep listening to a peaceful brook, you won't concentrate on any of the other little noises that can freak you out. Some nights are harder than others, and if I'm having a really bad night, I will sleep with the TV on. You have to pick the right channel, to make sure nothing will come on that is even remotely creepy, I highly suggest HGTV. Everything is pretty bland and they don't show any scary commercials or anything.

I usually find that after a few tough nights you will get used to the "new normal" and you will start falling asleep with no trouble. I hope that happens for you soon!

i hate being home alone too!

hubby and our 2 year old are now on their way home from the hornets NBA game. i hear every little noise too!

my lab is downstairs and she's really good at alerting me...like when the cat enters her space :lmao:

it's weird being home alone, i can probably count on 1 hand how many times i've been alone in the house since thomas came along!
