I just got my package from dvc and boy do i ever have alot of readin' to do.i think i had less paperwork when we bought our house!i got two vacation books-1 very thick book with all dvc props and the trading hotels and the other is a thin one with just dvc props in it i think.is this the book everybody is asking everyone wether they have received or not?also, with all these papers ,is it wise to have my lawyer look at it?my salesman, when i asked him at the seminar, said i could take it to a lawyer if i wanted but that it was all straight forward.one more thing, the forms say to be returned in 7 days-is that a hard and fast rule?what happens if it goes over?

After you sign the forms you will be seeing palm trees in your sleep for a week. ;)

You can have a lawyer look at it but even if there was something in there that the lawyer didn't like, Disney wouldn't change it. But if you would feel more comfortable showing it to your lawyer, you should.

I think I remember that as long as it is signed within the seven days, that is what matters most. Because of a vacation issue we were not able to get right to the signing and I thought I remembered that being said. You should call them thought to make sure.

It's important to take the time to read the materials and avoid the urge to just "sign at the Mickey's and date at the palm trees"! :)

It's because what is in those documents is all you are ever contractually going to see from Disney. No matter what your guide told you...no matter what you've read or heard elsewhere...if it's not in there it's not part of the contract.

You won't see pool hopping. You won't see "room ready" policies or any of the DVC perks. You won't even see the guarantee that you'll be able to use your points to reserve elsewhere other than your home resort.

I think it's important to read to understand what are the DVC perks, and what are the DVC contractual rights.

Enjoy the reading. And don't stress too much over the legalese that tends to make it look like you are getting very little. Most of us don't see Disney making huge changes to such a successful money maker like DVC.

Good luck! :)

Granny, what do you think though when they are doen selling DVC, such as buliding no more resorts and everything is sold out. Think they'll take away thsoe extras then? Just curiuos...

Shan...I don't want to get too far off topic but personally, I think some of the perks are used to sell new DVC units. I think that if they stop building, they'll discontinue some things like pool hopping and such. Or if they think a particular perk is no longer a big enough enticement for new buyers.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I don't think they offer any perks just because we're loyal customers.

But again, I don't know why they'd stop selling DVC unless they hit a saturation point and can no longer sell new units. The good news is, I think they'd discontinue exercising their ROFR too at that point.

Just my opinion, not based on any fact.

And back to the original poster, don't take any of this too seriously. I just think it's important to know what you are buying. When you boil it down, you are buying the right to stay at your DVC home for 50 years without having to worry about them raising the point per night totals overall. Everything else is pretty much a perk.

Sorry Granny, one more question? ;)
Woudl you consider us being abel to use poinst for cruises, WDW non DVc resorts and DL as a perk too that coudl possibly disapper? I'm sure this has been discussed before on here?

To the OP, I say go for it. We bought at BCV last spring and added on later in the summer. Sometimes I feel a littel bummed we didn't wait and hear the deal on SSR. I was too impatient.
The longer contract and special price right now is really nice. We are in our early 30s and that longer contract wodul have been nice, if not for us but for any future grandkids we might ahve.
Plus, I thought I woudln't like the location, but that theme pool looks liek it is going to be very nice.
