i have the fantasmic pkg reserved for the end of the month. i basically took the pkg since i didn't want to wait in line--so i took the cheapest meal there was. the menu didn't look all that bad, either.
what are people's impression of the food?
thanks

We did the FDP in November when we were there for exactly the same reason...I was not expecting too much based on the reviews I had seen, but we were pleasantly suprised.

The buffet had some excellent selections....they had a terrific tomatoe and mozarella salad, an excellent salmon dish and some very good veggies. My kids loved the root beer sweet potatoes (they weren't my thing, but then sweet potatoes never are). My in laws were with us...and I would classify them as very plain (meat and potatoes), unadventurous eaters, I have teenagers and DH and myself (who have decidely more exotic preferences), and everyone was full and happy at the end,

They had a decent ice cream sundae bar and several kinds of pastries, cookies and cobbler for dessert as I recall.

It wasn't as good a buffet as Boma's or Chef Mickeys, but I would not hesitate to go back either...especially if travelling with a group that had a range of eating preferences.

If you don't have a big group, ask for a window table...the people watching was fun, and it helped the atmosphere to be slightly removed from the buffet areas, since they were very busy the whole time we were there.

I've eaten at Hollywood and Vine twice now on the FDP and it's been good both times. It is a good buffet, just not a great one. Both times I have gone it has not been my favorite meal of the trip, but it has by no means been the worst. I think especailly with the FDP that it is a good value. I hope you enjoy it!

i loved H&V!!! we did the same thing...and i found that H&V had a better selection and better food than chef mickey. it was definetly worth it! i'll do H&V everytime now!!

I would respectfully disagree. Our entire crew (me, dh, dd-16, dd-6, and dd-4) determined that this was our least favorite meal of our trip. The atmosphere and food just didn't come close to our other experiences. Personally, I will never eat there again. Next time we will spend the extra dollars to have what I understand is a great meal at the Brown Derby.

Good Luck!

We had really good food there. We did the fantasmic package on a cool rainy night and the food was hot "comfort food" that we all liked. Service was really good and our waitress was really good with our Ds who was younger then. She told him she would watch to see if he ate enough dinner to go to the icecream bar. True to her word, she checked on him and deemed the two bites of chicken nuggets (normal anywhere we ate) enough for ice cream. Give it a try.

We are not buffet fans. We were however, pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the selection at H&V.

I hate the messiness of a buffet but items were well-stocked and my kids loved the soft serve and cake section when they were done with dinner.

Oddly enough, my whole family preferred H&V over The Brown Derby which we had also done for the Fantamic Package. They thought BD was way too stuffy and the portions a tad too small for the price.

Don't get me wrong, the food quality, selection and presentation was far superior at the BD but our waiter had an attitude and it set the wrong tone. We were far more comfortable at H&V.

All this from a family that counts Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge as our favorite dinner spot at WDW!

Enjoy!

We did the Fantasmic package and H&V last month. I really liked the food there. I think buffets are great because there's something for everyone and if you choose something you don't like, you just go back and try something else. My faves were the Southwestern Ceasar Salad, the Tomato and Buffalo Mozzerella and those little pumpkin cupcakes with the cream cheese frosting (wish I could find the recipie for those!). I actually preferred this buffet over the one at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. Go figure!

We also did H&V as part of the Fantasmic package, and we were very pleased. The food is just as good as the other buffets, and there are some interesting selections that are not available elsewhere. The main difference between H&V and the other buffets is the lack of clear theming and atmosphere at H&V. You will get a good, solid meal at a reasonable price at H&V, but it will not provide the extras of the other buffets. It's a good meal, but it's not an experience. Having said that, I highly recommend H&V in conjunction with the Fantasmic dinner package.

thanks so much for all your replies. i figure if i go in with an attitude of not expecting too much, then i'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Another vote for H&V. It's the only repeat of restaurants on our list this coming Christmas.

We were at the Studios one night in Dec 2002 and wanted to sit down and eat a real meal, but I had not made any PS for that night. We found ourselves ourside H&V and it looked empty so we put our name in. We waited for about 10 minutes and were seated. The service was great and we ended up really enjoying the food-to my immense shock since I have read some awful reports here on this place. Maybe we were just starving, but we really liked it! In fact, I am going to make another PS for this upcoming trip!

Hollywood and Vine is one of our favorites for several reasons. The food, especially now that the desserts are being made by Starring Roles across the street, the location, and price (for Disney). Granted the cafeteria atmosphere is not the most relaxing or romantic but we can go for a walk around the lake afterward if we feel the need. LOL
