Hollywood Studios/Osborne Lights

Has anyone heard anything at all about there being no Osborne lights this year? I know there was talks to putting a Cars Land or a Star Wars world in HS and that would be where the streets of America are (Osborne lights) although I have not heard anything more on that. Can we assume the lights will be on another year? Going to be there in Nov and would love to see the lights one more time. Problem is Disney is known to be very secretive when it comes to their plans so we may not know up until the last minute..........

Haven't heard anything about this rumor in a while so I would say that the lights are safe for this year at least.

Yes their contract was renewed for this year at least don't know about after this year tho.

I heard a couple different rumors on this.

1. That it was closing due to Cars & Star Wars.
2. That it was moving to Epcot.

I can't imagine Disney shutting the Osborne lights down. It is a popular attraction. I would imagine they would get lots of complaints. Moving to Epcot seems strange., not sure how it would fit in.

I also heard that the Sci-fi restaurant is closing. I asked when I was there in November, but no one could confirm the rumor.

I remember people were saying the same thing when they had to move the Osborne Lights off the back lot when they built Lights! Motor! Action!

Everyone was upset when it moved to the Streets of America. Now everyone loves it and can't even remember when it was on the back lot.

It is so popular it would be silly to get rid of it. Especially for the return on investment they get for them. If they build any new rides back there, I'm sure they will just move it to where they want people to go, just like they did last time.

Supposedly the ABC reality show- The Great Christmas Light Fight- was planned to be a new holiday offering at Walt Disney World because Jennings Osbourne's children (he passed away in 2011) want a licensing fee, whereas Osbourne always preferred free hotel stays, etc for his family in exchange for having his lights at Hollywood Studios.

I hope they do not get rid of this, I cannot return until December 15 and my kids are really looking forward to seeing the lights. I hope they do not get rid of it, this was one of the main reasons I'm returning at this time of year.

I don't have a specific link but I do know it was reported on several boards on wdwmagic.com several of those people who reported this have very good reputations and a lot are cast members. I also would just assume that they would be back for this year because nothing has been announced for any renovations at this point. By now most Christmas events are pretty set in stone even if they haven't been officially announced.

They are usually up and running around the second week of November thru the first week of January, and it is every night.

Been following along since we will be there in mid November. I know I'm really looking forward to seeing Osborne lights : )
