Is the Cobb Salad really THAT good? (It looks like it! )

I'm also intrigued by the lobster bisque, filet, duck, and ALL the desserts. For those of you that have eaten there, please comment on the above - or other - selections.

'Cause I'm daydreamin' at work about my upcoming Disney trip...

oh, yes....the cobb salad is THAT good!!!

i usually get extra avocado in mine, too

add a crabcake appetizer (if available) and some grapefruit cake: perfection!

The Cobb Salad is amazing. The Grapefruit cake is really good, too.

Supposedly invented by Robert Cobb for Sid Grauman (of Grauman's Chinese Theater) at the original Brown Derby in Hollywood (California) when he was hungry and had a toothache. It is a salad of chopped greens, turkey, eggs, tomatoes, etc... whatever he had in the fridge. At MGM's HBD, it has bleu cheese and avocadoes and probably some other good things I'm forgetting right now.

Hope I got that story right. Others chime in if I've left out some details or was just plain wrong with some of my facts...

What Is Cobb Salad?

Cobb salad is a green salad. It usually has egg, bacon, avocado, blue cheese added to it. There are probably some other ingredients too. This is a salad that many places have but at the Brown Derby, they chop everything up into small itty bitty pieces and mix it for you so that each bite has a combination of all of the flavors.

My DH loves this at HBD. And although I love cobb salad at most places, I did not like it chopped up like that. Maybe it was the texture, but it didn't wow me.

My favorite appetizer in all of WDW is at HBD. I love love the scallop and pork belly. Next time I go, I'm just getting 3 of those for my meal and then going straight for the dessert.

I loooved the cobb salad. I also got the filet mignon which was amazing. I usually eat steak with sauce but not that time!

Cobb salad is definitely THAT good! Filet was wonderful, and the vanilla bean creme brulee is out of this world:love:

DH and I ordered the cobb, thinking "eh, it is just a salad, I am sure it is fine, but how good can it really be?"

Well...VERY GOOD! We even talked about it the next day. i liked it cuz it was a chopped salad. I never thought to ask for extra avocado, but that sounds great. Thanks for the tip, suzimar!:thumbsup2

I have to say, I was dying to eat at HBD since our trip last year. The atmosphere, the glitz, the glam... oh, if we could just eat at HBD... so this year, we decided on a lunch. We'd just split a cobb salad. Well...

It was ok, but didn't thrill me. Though, I have to say, between DBF and myself, there was WAY more Cobb Salad (we shared one), than our Coconut Shrimp appetizer (for $8)...

Yes, that is TWO, count 'em, TWO whole shrimp on that big ol' plate! Thank goodness for the rolls!

Not a place that I HAVE to go to again, but to each his own.

Wow! I would be ashamed to present a plate with TWO shrimp on it. I'll not be ordering that. :3dglasses

We visited HBD years ago as part of the Fantasmic dining experience and really liked the atmosphere and food. I don't remember what we ordered EXCEPT the filet, which was very good. So I've really been looking forward to revisiting.

This year we are doing a greatest hits dining trip and re-visiting several of the places we've enjoyed from the past: Hollywood Brown Derby, Chef Mickey's, California Grill, and Marrakesh. Our only planned new TS is Concourse Steakhouse (lunch for the burger). Anything else new will be CS.

Yes it is that good. It is served as an entree, we usually order it and split it
4 ways and eat it as a salad. We then get a steak to go with it or some other entree. We did get a few looks, but I want a salad with my meal and why not a cobb salad.

I know!:lmao: And the funniest thing was, the server actually bothered to bring us out a separate "appetizer fork" for this. Obviously, had I known there would only be 2 shrimp on the plate, we would not have ordered it!

I just at there earlier this month and everything we had was wonderful.

I had the crabcake appetizer which was to die for. Lots of crab and very little filler. Yum. My friend had the lobster bisque. She loved it, but after having a taste of mine she wished she had the crabcake.

We both had the filet mignon, which was delicious. Tender and extreamely flavorful. I normally don't eat meat, but indulge a bit on vacation and this was well worth every mouthful.

We both had the banana white chocolate tower for desert. I was a bit wary of the desert since I'm not a big white chocolate fan, but my love for banana won out. It was tied for my favorite desert of the trip. (Along with that banana bread pudding over at Ohana).

We both thought of this restaurant as one of the highlights of our trip, and couldn't stop raving about it. We were on the ddp and thought it was well worth 2 ts credits for. The great food, along with wonderful service, and an atmosphere that felt miles away from an amusement park made for a wonderful experience.

My husband and I love the cobb salad. It is very refreshing on a hot day.
As far as the coconut shrimp app. We got three a few years ago... Maybe they are cutting back. Even still I thought the shrimp was excellent. I too would be disappointed if there was only 2 on my plate.

OMG, now you've thrown a white chocolate tower into the mix!!! Perhaps if I fast beforehand... but not so much that I shrink my stomach. :woohoo:

I make the cobb salad recipe from the disney cookbook all the time. The best part is the old fashioned french dressing.

:goodvibes

when i make the cobb salad at home, i substitute either a chunky blue cheese dressing, or a creamy caeser dressing
