Hollywood Brown Derby - any recent diners?

We're about to head to the Studios for the afternoon/evening and we are stopping in at the Brown Derby Lounge for some snacks & drinks. I'll snag some pics, etc. of what we get and post. Wife may be getting their Cobb Salad. If she does, will of course ics and reviews of her thoughts.

Off to the parks!
Slightly off topic, but did you have a chance to see the Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular show? What did you think?

Are they kid friendly? We were thinking of doing a walk in to to the lounge with DD 4. Thanks.

We've eaten there on our last two trips, once with a 2 y/o and last time with a 4y/o and a 9 m/o. They did just fine! We drag our kids to a lot of Sigs and other nicer restaurants though, because dining is an important part of any vacation DH and I take. We think sitting down for a nice meal really gives you a break from the craziness that is most days at a Disney park, and we've never encountered a problem bringing our kids anywhere while at WDW.

Oh no, I have an ADR for my next trip and this thread is making me reconsider :(
Their menu seemed good to me but now I'm wondering....

When's your next trip? The problem with DHS is that there aren't many nicer restaurants to choose from, at least IMHO. My wife and I very much like 50's Prime Time, both the interaction with the "cousins", and we think the food, while certainly not "foodie" material is quite good. Sci-Fi is good for lunch, and Mama Melrose's is one that we've never tried, but that's about it. Our ADR at HBD is on Sept 9, and I will post my thoughts on our experience afterwards.

Don't change your ADR based on anyone else's opinion. Everyone has different tastes and thoughts about what's good and what's not. Everyone raves about Sanaa in AKL, we had our worst ever dining experience in WDW there, the service was the worst and the food just o.k. Other's love it. We occasionally eat at 50s Prime Time but not because I like it, my son does if he's really hungry. I don't like the cousins interaction and the food is too heavy and there is too much of it for me so I usually end up with just getting an appetizer. I think you should try everything once then make up your mind.

DH and I have dined at HBD every trip for at least the past 10+ years and honestly have never had a bad experience. I understand that it is all relative and any restaurant can certainly have off nights. We will be returning for our ADR on Sept 16th and look forward to it.

DW and I were there for an early dinner in June. I'm kind of torn on the Cobb salad. It was OK, just not what I expected. Loved the filet of beef and DW could have eaten a whole bucket of the yellow cauliflower puree that came with the salmon. The dessert sampler was excellent. Overall, we enjoyed it just not as much as Cali Grill or Tiffins.

YES! It is now my favourite dailt fireworks show on property!

Just a few pics from our visit yesterday to the Brown Derby Lounge. Sorry, wife did not get the Cobb Salad.

View of the Star Wars show that runs throughout the day. You can pretty much see nearly everything on the stage and most of what is shown on the screens. For reference, we are siting at the second high table against the building when you walk into the lounge area.

Thank you for the info. We, too, enjoy dining out! Did your kids find enough that they liked to eat at the lounge?

I'll be going at the very beginning of November. I ate at 50's in January and really liked it, just thought to try something new this time. I've read a lot about Sci-Fi but I'm going solo and wouldn't want to be a "hitchhiker" ;)
Mama Melrose is on my "maybe" list :) I'll probably end up going anyway and just form my own opinion. I loved a lot of places that other's didn't..

You're right. As I mentioned to PP I did enjoy places that others deemed inedible so who knows :)
Thanks!

I have a lunch reservation for HBD this Wednesday and am planning on ordering the cobb salad. I think I'll ask for dressing on the side as prefer salads very lightly dressed. Would they be okay with that? I'm happy to hear that the grapefruit cake can be ordered as a single dessert, I'm looking forward to trying it! I'll report back and let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the pix, everything looks very good, especially the shrimp and grits. I agree with you also regarding the Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular. I've heard lots of complaints because there aren't as many fireworks (still plenty I thought), but overall the show is, dare I say, spectacular. We saw it from up close, to the left as you're looking at the Chinese Theater. I think next time we'll try to step back a bit and try to get more towards the center. It is hard to take it all in because there is so much going on.
