Hollywood and Vine Play and Dine Character Breakfast--Long review with lots of photos

Do you think a 6yr old would enjoy this place more than Chef Mickey?

That is so hard to say since every child is different. My dd is 6 and loved it! But she also loves Playhouse Disney shows. Some kids are a little more "mature" in their tastes and are beyond those shows. Does your child like/love JoJo and Little Einsteins?

The main difference is that Chef Mickey's is basically just eating, and the characters come by for autographs, photos and move on. There is a little thing where a song plays and they all wave napkins, but it really isn't very "personal". Just a piped in song and the characters stop and wave napkins. It is also usually very crowded. We have been 2x for dinner and 1x for breakfast and enjoyed it, but it is packed with people.

Play and Dine was much less crowded when we went (the restaurant is also much smaller so it can't get as crowded) and the characters actually danced with the kids. The songs were from Playhouse Disney so my dd knew them. It just seemed like a more "personal" and calmer experience.

I guess it comes down to which characters do your kids enjoy more? If you aren't planning to meet the "Fab Five" (Mickey and friends) anywhere else , or they are on your "must meet" list than I would go ahead and do Chef Mickeys. If you think you will find the others in Toontown or Character Connection in Epcot (great place!!!) and want an easy way to see the Playhouse Disney characters then this is a great way.

The other consideration is that if your child is 6 now and enjoys Playhouse Disney then you might want to do it now if you aren't planning to go back to WDW again soon. I know that by the time we go back in a year or 2 DD6 (now) will be too old for this meal. Chef Mickey's is timeless and is enjoyed by all ages.

Does that help at all???

Thanks so much for this review! We're going in December. My Dbro(3) loves Playhouse Disney & DSis is looking forward to it even though she's 8. My DD is a little young for it, but she loves music and dancing, so I think she's going to like it too. I;m so glad you posted all those pics! :thumbsup2

Thank you for your review -- just made ADR today for 12/14. DD is going to love this. She LOVES the Little Einstein -- and yes -- everyone in our house knows all of the words! We are also doing LTT before MVMCP.

That is why we love to do the Garden Grill character lunch. When planning our ressies for our upcoming Dec. trip I originally said only one character meal this time-b/c we found that they were kinda hectic with the exception of GG. I asked my 5 year old if he could pick any restaurant to go back to on this trip (we last went Dec. 2004) which one would he pick...he said the GG. Knowing how much he likes playhouse disney and Little Einsteins...I told him about this new option-and he really wanted to do both...so we are going to do 2 character meals-one b'fast and one lunch. We'll be there 10 days, so 2 over 10 days won't be overkill. Also, by doing the GG for lunch we'll get Mickey, Minnie, etc... So-best of both worlds I think! :)

Thanks for the pictures-I showed them to my son and he is really excited for when we go! Leo is his favorite, so he was happy to see the picture of Leo.

Did they only sing songs related to JoJo and Goliath and Little Einsteins? My girls love Mickey Mouse Club House- also part of Play House Disney. I know we can see the characters anywhere...but they would really get into singing "Hot Dog, Hot dog, hot diggity dog!".

Sorry, don't know if it is too late to answer this for you but they sang songs from all the Playhouse Disney shows. We did great round of Hot Dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog! Also we sang something from Handy Manny (?) and lots of other shows. It was great fun!

This sounds wonderful, thankyou so much for sharing, you have convinced me to try this next trip, DS2 is a Playhouse Disney nut! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the great pictures! We are trying this in january - hope our girls like it!

Thank you so much for the review. We're going to be there in a few weeks and my dd4 loves little Einsteins so it will be perfect for her.

Feel free to come back and post your experiences on this thread or start your own!

We had 2 friends who went earlier this year and both gave this character meal thumbs up! They both said that this was uncrowded and they felt like they got plenty of character interaction. We have ressies for next Sunday, our departure day.

Thanks! I may change from 50s to this! Although I am afraid that my dd9 will be bored but oh well, we are doing her meal at the end of the trip at Norway Princess Breakfast! I think that my dd5 will enjoy this. I am afraid of how she is going to react to the characters though is my only concern. We are doing CP on our first day to try and introduce her to the big characters! Oh well, that is another thread! Thanks for the review!:)
