Holiday Inn Downtown Disney?

I heard about it awhile ago, I didn't realize it was so close to opening. I hear it's supposed to be very nice.

I agree. After reading the list of amenities and looking at some renderings of the building, I'm impressed. Can't wait to hear how it is!

Based on the position on the map, they must be remodeling what was there before? Or did they tear down and start over from scratch?

I stayed at the Regal Sun (Grosvenor) a couple of months ago and I didn't notice any major construction going on. Of course, I wasn't looking for any either. The site makes it sound like new construction. I don't know what was at that site before. Anyone have any ideas?

I think you are talking about the property on Hotel Drive (near DTD)

They have been rebuilding (from the inside out) for almost three years. The property was originally scheduled for a soft opening in May 2008. The economy got worse and work slowed to a crawl. Last I heard from IHG was that the new target was holiday season (December) 2009. I looked around over there last trip (May 2009) and it looked like there is a way to go yet..

Got to be careful about the IHG search site... It was actually letting people reserve rooms for this property on line for a period of time last summer.

We have stayed in all of the hotels on Hotel drive in the past (because it was close to DTD)... but with the gutting of PI I am not sure why anyone wants another hotel in this area.

We are still trying to enjoy the magic that is left but Disney will not get my $$$ for on site rooms until they show me they deserve it... no PI no $$$ !!

If you are looking for a nice IHG property we love the Crowne Plazza Universal... great people and close to city walk at night... a shuttle will take you to Disney parks as well as Universal...:thumbsup2

That hotel has been under construction since the summer of hurricanes in 2004. The opening has been changed several times over the years. I hope it finally opens.

I stayed at this hotel back when it was a Howard Johnson's. Gosh that was like twenty something years ago. It was a nice location, but the rooms were unremarkable. I hope they fix it up nicely.

When the crew was talking about Holiday Inn properties near WDW last week and said there were no quality location nearby I was screaming at my Ipod...."Staybridge Suites, Staybridge Suites".

This property is just 2 lights past the entrance to DTD on the right (across from a Walgreens) and is owned by Holiday Inn and we love it. We have stayed there for at least one - two night the last 4 years running (either before or after our on property stay or cruise) and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be off site but close by, Included in the cost is a full kitchen, VCR/DVD, intranet, separate LR There are one and two bedroom suites available, each with TV's in the bedrooms. They have a wonderful pool area and offer free hot breakfast bar which also includes pastries, cereals, juices, etc. for each person in the room, (which can really save a bit of $$ while getting a full meal). Rooms generally run from $125 - $159 on average per night and really are wonderful. The beds are awesome, some of the most comfortable I have ever had in a hotel. and as a nod to Pete, I let my mom stay there with us last year and she had no complaints either. :)
