How do you feel about these two popular Christmas food items:

Fruitcake
Mincemeat Pie

My late DH loved them both - I can't stand either - LOL..:santa: I always made sure he had them though..:lovestruc

Fruitcake - LOVE Claxton Fruitcake. Don't like the rest.

Mincemeat Pie - Never had it, don't even kno what's in it

I'm a picky eater. I haven't tried either. And I haven't tried beets. I plan to make that permanent. They look funny. Can't. bring. myself. to. eat. them.

Now if I can just talk myself into that mindset for any and all high fat/calorie foods, I'd be onto something! :upsidedow

I don't know if anyone's every told you this, but beets taste like dirt. I love pickled beets.

:laughing::laughing: No, never been told that! I just can't get past the color of the things. Glad to hear I'm not missing anything!

Fruitcake - I'm picky about the cake, needs to be moist and sweet, loooove marzipan icing!
Mincemeat tarts - yummy! I'm finishing off my 3rd of the season with my tea right now!

I HATE fruitcake. I hate the way it looks, the way it smells, I just simply HATE it! Its only the first week in December and we have already recieved 3 bars of that crap!

I've never had Mincemeat before, but I'm guessing it tastes better then fruitcake!

As far as beets go, ewww, those things just look gross!

I've never had mincemeat pie but TBH it sounds gross so I don't ever anticipate myself trying it either. I'm not very adventurous that way.

And I hated fruitcake the one time I had it.

I kinda wish I hated more holiday foods. It'd sure make dieting a lot easier!

Ugh, beets. Beets were the cause of one of my 2 total incidents of throwing up in public. My mom had a rule when we were little that we at least had to try everything put on our plate; if we didn't like it, that was fine, but we had to give it a try. I kept telling her that the beets smelled horrible and that I desperately didn't want to eat them....and about 30 seconds later, she found out why.

Massive yay!!
Wouldn't be Christmas without fruitcake and mince pies.
Fruitcake becomes Christmas cake when topped with marzipan and icing, the latter shaped to look like snow and the figure of a snowman or Father Christmas on top. My personal preference is to eat a slice of fruitcake with a chunk of mature cheddar cheese but that is a north of England thing.
Mince pies are great too, all sweet and sticky with regular or shortbread or puff pastry and, for variety, replacing the pastry lid with deep icing.
Marvellous.

I feel your pain. I was almost forced to eat beets at school when I was young. This cafeteria monitor loomed over me and told me to eat that, and she pointed right to the beets. I was probably in 1st or 2nd grade. I remember the wild panic I felt. I just shook my head and told her I was allergic to it. Thankfully, she bought it and went on her way. I'm sure I would've upchucked or spit it out. I didn't handle those things well back then.

Phew! I was beginning to think I was the only one! More fruitcake and mince tarts for us!

My aunt was responsible for bringing a garden salad to a family get together a few years ago. She brought a beautiful salad COVERED with beets! No one ate it, after an hour the green salad was stained red. She assumed that because her husband loved beets in his salad, everyone else would too. So gross!

I won't eat fruitcake or mincemeat pie, but I do like beets.

I will give those 2 foods a big ol' NAY.

I don't like fruitcake. As for mincemeat pie, my grandma used to make it with hard sauce - sugar, butter and brandy - yum. Actually I only like mince pie if it has the hard sauce to accompany it.

Hate fruitcake.

Never had mincemeat pie until my MIL made it. She actually just calls it "mince" pie. Isn't it just a medley of fruit like apples, raisins, and that citrus stuff with some spices? I actually really like the taste of it--very spiced and very "holiday" tasting.
