holiday characters at the resorts

i have been seeing instagram posts of people taking pictures with characters dressed up for the holidays in the past day. we do this every year and can never figure out the days and times until we actually go to the resort and see a sign that has this info. if anyone knows or finds out this info, maybe it can be posted here so we know ahead of time? we are particularly excited about the santa minnie and mickey we saw posted yesterday at grand floridian.

There was Christmas Minnie at the GF on Wednesday night this week. Seemed random and not very advertised, but was wonderful.

If you look at the resort activity guides (most can be found online via a google search, or some of the resort specific threads here update to show the current one each month) it will say the days and times. I discovered this on our first holiday trip in 2016. We were staying at Boardwalk and scheduled meals and things around the times that the characters would be there and BC/YC.

It was really fun and I always love seeing characters in uncommon outfits! At Beach Club that year Mickey and Minnie met in turquoise colored outfits with snowflakes, they were so cute!

Last year we were at AKL at this time and the resort guide (Times Guide) had the dates, times, and locations of the characters throughout the week. (Santa included as well.) We've been fortunate to travel Christmas week many, many times over the years and I found last year to be the most lacking/infrequent in resort character greetings (not just AKL, but across all deluxe resorts). I was a little disappointed, to be honest. However, one of the nights we were there, we chanced upon Mickey & Minnie dressed up in their holiday outfits (great photo opps!). The lines were super long, but worth it. I asked the Cast Members there about the character greetings, since they weren't on the Times Guide and the CMs mentioned that Mickey & Minnie were actually at Kidani Village for a private event, but happened to loop through the lobby to surprise guests. It was an awesome Christmas miracle! I love the little elements of magic here & there. It was nice to have a little spontaneity since I plan Christmas week Disney trips quite a bit more because of the crowds. I just love the holiday outfits. One of my favorite family photos is with Stitch dressed as Santa right next to the Kidani tree by the staircase leading down to Sanaa.

Interesting. I would have to agree last year did not seem to have many resort character greetings, especially not in holiday outfits. We spent a lot of time at different resorts during our trip last year (ADRs, monorail Christmas tour, and stayed at Contempo) and we did not have a single sighting of characters in holiday outfits. Actually, despite my obsessive planning and all the time I spend on here, I didn’t know it was a thing.

OP, I would imagine you could email guest services about a week in advance and request the resort guides be sent to you so you can try to find the characters/plan around the appearances. guest.services@disneyworld.com

If you are staying at the resort you will see the schedule for the day. I don’t think they publish for others.

I have seen friends vacation pics during Christmas. And yes. There was a lot of characters at Pop. During Christmas season.
However. Unlike Disneyland. Where you will see character roaming around all day. At WDW. They are more regimented as to where and the line to greet them. At DLR it’s more like the old days of just walking around and meeting. Yes there are still lines and all, but the whole character experience is better in DLR. hotels and all.

They have organized character lines in the resort lobby over the holiday season at Pop and POFQ. Ive seen roaming characters at resorts during other times of the year though.
