Holding points reservation timing

I find myself with holding points for the first time in our 9 years of membership. So I had a question about reservation timing that I wasn't 100% sure about.

I know that I have to wait until 60 days prior to a trip to make a reservation using holding points. My question is...would that be 60 days prior to the beginning of a trip (similar to regular point reservations)?

Or do I have to wait until 60 days from the end of my trip?

I just know that holding points have that 60 days limitation and didn't know if they would let me book the whole trip with holding points, effectively using some of those points more than 60 days out.

From the member website:
These Vacation Points can be used for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

Michael...thank you kindly for that information. I thought I read the material on the member web site but I obviously missed that. I appreciate you taking the time to paste it from there. :)

I am sorry you have holding points. But at least you have a trip planned that you can use those points.

Granny, one thing that might get you is that as I understand it, each day technically stands alone. So just like you can't extend points that expire when you cross over a UY, I don't think you'll be able to extend points in a holding account just because the reservation STARTS in the old UY. I suspect this is different than the sense you were getting above. Of course there has to be availability to use the points as well, you can't just substitute them without availability. You should discuss with MS to be sure but this is my understanding.

My understanding is the same as Dean's. Holding points expire at the end of the use year and thus cannot be used to pay for any night in the subsequent use year, even if the reservation starts in the current use year.

But still worth checking with MS, assuming that is even your issue, :teeth:

Dean and Carol...thanks for the additional input. The trip I'm hoping to use my holding points for would be several months before the end of my UY, so that's not the issue.

I just didn't know if I could call 60 days from the check-in date and book the whole trip since holding points technically can only be used 60 days out. The quote that Michael lifted from the member web site seems pretty clear that I can book the entire reservation 60 days from the check in date.

Just trying to give myself the best shot at using the points. And the 60 day mark is coming up fast.

Again, I appreciate all comments and clarifications. You'd think after 9 years of membership I'd have this thing figured out by now! :)

I'm not sure on that front. My guess is they will allow you to book the entire time as long as you don't cross the UY but I also bet it varies with which CM you speak to.
