I'm loving the report - I can't believe you're already at your last day! All of the Fantasmic pics in the last update were great! I'm really hoping to finally see it on our upcoming trip!

Hi Courtney! So glad to "see" you here on the DIS! Hope you're feeling good right now. I know you and Miguel must be getting more and more excited!

If I go 2-3 days without getting to either write something on our TR or see pictures on someone else's, I feel really out of touch with what is going on in DIStown.

Day 6, Part 1

Friday, June 1

We woke up this morning knowing it was our last day at Disney. Even with the entire day and evening ahead, it is a bittersweet feeling beginning your last day. You almost want to bury your head under the covers and pretend that it really isn’t already here!

We dressed and boarded the monorail. Where to? Where else would we be heading on our last day at Disney? Magic Kingdom, of course!

We arrived around 9:30; thirty minutes after the park had opened. There was a light drizzle of rain, so the ponchos and umbrellas came out. Our first order of business was to head over to BTMRR. The stand-by line’s wait time was only ten minutes, so we walked through. We enjoyed trying to see what looked different in the new redone queue and ride. I will probably catch some flames, but I must admit that the older I get, the less I enjoy this ride. I like it just for the reason that it’s classic---plus my kids love it. However, I guess I’ve gotten spoiled to the “smoother” coasters, and all the jerking on this one just is too much for the middle-aged chick!

When we left, Elizabeth wanted to ride one of her favorites-Splash Mountain. Rachel and I didn’t fancy the idea of getting soaked so early in the morning, especially when there wasn’t much sunlight to dry us out, so we passed. Kevin, Elizabeth, and Reid rode this time.

Rachel and I watched and waited---There they are!

We waited a little longer, and then finally---there they were again!

Looks like they had fun!

Afterwards, we walked over to Peter Pan to pull a fast pass for later. Since I’d given away the FPs two nights earlier, I had to make sure we got to ride this time! The rain must have been keeping the crowds out that morning, because our return time was for just a little over an hour out—11:20-12:20.

We didn’t want to walk very far, so we sailed out on the happiest cruise that ever sailed!

We left there and watched Mickey’s Philharmagic. We had been given surprise FPs for this when we pulled our Peter Pan’s FP. However, it wasn’t really needed---It was pretty much a move through the queue, and wait in a big pack outside the theatre doors. When we finished up there, we walked back next door to ride Peter Pan.

By this time, it was lunchtime, and everyone was getting hungry. We decided to try something we had never tried before. Yes, we caught the ever-elusive El Pirata y El Perico open for service that day! I just discovered that this place has been renamed the Tortuga Tavern. I didn’t take any pictures, because by this time, it was raining pretty heavily, and I just didn’t want to deal with getting my camera out in all that. I had to borrow this picture from photo bucket.

Because of the rain, everyone had crowded in to sit at tables. Luckily we found one where we could sit and eat our lunch. Rachel, Reid, and I all ate the kids quesadillas. Kevin ordered the beef nachos, and Elizabeth had a taco salad. We looked at the radar on our phones, and realized that this front was not going anywhere anytime soon. It looked like it was a big one, just sitting over all of central Florida. We decided that we would go back to the resort and have a little afternoon siesta!

On the way out of the park, we stopped at Main Street Confectionary.

I usually enjoy looking and taking lots of pictures in here, but the rain had made it extremely crowded. People were rushing in to buy ponchos, and then standing in the doorways to put them on. Plus, the floor was wet with rain, and humidity. Wet tiled floors and I do not have the best track record. Believe me, if someone can fall, it’s always me!

We purchased a few rice krispy treats for friends, and I caved in to desire, and got a pecan cluster for me. Delicious!

Rachel wanted a dipped marshmallow.

We got back to our Poly room around 1:15, and this little guy was waiting for us:

So sorry I have not updated in over three weeks! I feel horrible about it, but school, cheer practice, football games, and after school tutoring are all kicking my butt!

This weekend looks free right now, and I hope to get an update up. I miss my DIS time!

I still like this one. In my old age, Rock 'n Roller Coaster is the one that started giving me fits. The ride itself is okay, but the take-off gets me.

Wow, the MK entrance still looks really crowded for the park already being open. But I'm glad that you were experiencing fairly low wait times.

I won't flame, but I love BTMRR. One of my very favorite rides in all of Disney. It just makes me smile!

Sorry the rain drove you away for a bit of a break. Hope the weather clears up a bit for you, but even if it doesn't, I think the MK is the best park to be at when it is raining. There are a lot of attractions close to one another and a lot of the queues are under cover.

I'm impressed that Reid sat in the front of Splash Mountain all alone. Splash is NOT one of Hunter's favorites even to this day. He's never liked it and says that he never will.

You are not alone in your love/hate relationship with Big Thunder Mountain. John says that it jerks the heck outta his back but he still rides it because it's one of the classics.

I remember many years back, Tortunga Tavern was open all of the time and we ate there at least once every trip. I'm happy to hear that you were able to duck out of the rain and have a chance to eat there.

Oh my gosh! The rain that morning was insane! We were at AK and thankful we got on Everest before the down pour. Probably a really good idea to go rest. It's no fun being in the parks when it's a consistent rain. Love the Splash Mountain photos you got! I think BTMRR is rough to, don't worry, it's not just you!

I must admit Dee, that the picture of MK was earlier in the week when we had arrived for the opening show!

Rachel actually took those pics of Splash Mountain. I think she had the camera on the sports setting, so it snapped three in a row each time!

I can totally relate to this - no flames here. As much as I love this ride and Space Mountain I feel like at some point the "uncomfortable" factor will over ride the "thrill" factor and I will be forced to make a choice. Smooth is so much better than bumpy, any day of the week.

Last days are bittersweet; it's hard leaving your room in the morning knowing it's your last day, but it's exciting that you still have some time left to take in the magic.

Hmm, sorry to hear about BTMRR. It's a favorite of mine, but it can be pretty jerky at times.


It's good to hear the weather made the wait times drop, but I know it can be frustrating trying to eat in restaurants and/or shops with everyone huddled in the entrances, trying to avoid the rain. Sounds like you all accomplished a lot, though!

Me either until that day! Whenever I would read about it being open "seasonally", but I sure couldn't figure out which season it was because it had never been open when I passed by!
