My family (me, DW, DD4, DS1) will be coming to DLR in October 2014 for all the Halloween fun. I wanted to stay off property this trip (we have stayed at the DLH before). I am now down to two final options, and I'm hoping you all can help me decide: HOJO or BWPPI?

I have a king room reserved at BWPPI and a king suite with bunk beds at HOJO.

We haven't been to either hotel, but we've heard good things about both. They are only about $250 different in price, which isn't make or break for us, so we're just trying to decide which would be better. And we know we'll be coming back for naps (for the kids, but maybe mom and dad too ;) ) during the day.

Have you stayed at either place or both? What were the pros or cons? Which reservation do you think we should keep? :confused3

If you know you're going back to the room, BWPPI is definitely convenient. We have stayed there and it was nice to know that your hotel room was just right across the street. The breakfast was good, beds were comfortable. We liked it a lot!

Your kids are a great age for the watermark at hojos. The walk is a bit farther - if you can deal with that I would,d stat there.

I've stayed at both hotels and I voted for BWPPI. It's not as fancy, if you can call it that compared to HOJO's, but they've got a free continental breakfast that's pretty decent. With their close proximity to the parks, especially when going back to the hotel for afternoon naps with young kids it can't be beat. I really enjoyed my stay there in Nov/13, and won't hesitate to stay there again.

Proximity wise, BWPPI wins - but in all fairness, HOJO is just a couple minutes longer.

If your kids love to play in the water then HOJO wins hands down. The kids play area would be great for your kids ages, there is even an area for your 1yr old to splash around safely in. There are chairs around the area so you can sit and watch (if your 1yr old isn't a "runner" haha). The pool at the BWPPI is a basic hotel pool so if the kids want in the water, you have to go in too. HOJO gives a bit more freedom in that regard.

BWPPI is our go-to hotel for Disneyland, we're here right now taking an afternoon break from the park. I feel it's a great value for the location and free breakfast. But like others have said, if your family enjoys the pool, HOJO is better. The pool at BWPPI is tiny, it's smaller than my pool at home and mine is fairly small, so it can get packed. We just got back from letting the kids take a dip while we soaked our sore feet in the hot tub and there were easily 25 people there.

I have hotel rooms reserved at both hotels for the end of October as well.... I think we're going to go with BWPPI. If it were summer, we'd do HOJO. We were there last Halloween week and honestly, it was only warm enough for an outdoor water park for 1 day. Also take into account, will you want to spend much time out of the park? Our family will likely eat breakfast and be at the park all day. We're die hards ;)

I voted BWPPI, just because it's SO CLOSE. I have stayed there twice, and it was wonderful when we needed to go back for a nap in the middle of the day.

The water park at HoJo is definitely tempting, and I know my DD would love it, but the distance (and breakfast) tip things in the BWPPI's favor for me.

Another vote for BWPPI- I've stayed at both & I must say, I  being able to just cross the street to/from the Park...sure, the HoJo isn't *that* far away, but it's not only a short crosswalk away ;) . I also like the free breakfast (plus it saves time in the morning...you're already fed & ready to go on rides when you get to the Park!). As others have said, the pool/water play areas at HoJo are larger and more fancy than the pool at BWPPI. IMO, that's really the main advantage it has.

Haven't stayed at BWPPI, but have stayed at Park Vue and HOJO. Hojo kids suite was great, but would probably go closer and breakfast with BWPPI.
Nothing better than seeing your hotel across the crosswalk from Disneyland (and vice versa, seeing Disneyland from your hotel)

Having stayed at both, I'd say Hojo for sure. The beds are so much more comfortable. The rooms are lighter/brighter. The pools at Hojo are way better than the small pool at BWPPI. Plus the parking is free and not a hassle.
The only thing BWPPI has over Hojo is that it is closer, probably 3-5 minutes less walking than Hojo. Dont get me wrong. BWPPI is fine, clean, and close and I'd stay there again if I couldn't get Hojo for a reasonable price. But hands down my family prefers Hojo. Its worth the extra 5 minute walk to the parks.

We have never stayed at BWPPI, but have done HOJO a couple times. Once in October and once in November. My boys (4 and 2) at the time loved it there! They cannot get enough of the splash area. Sometimes I cannot even understand why I spend so much money on Disneyland when we just need to go somewhere with an awesome pool?! We didn't mind the walk at all and if I am honest, the kids could care less, they are being valet in a stroller or on my shoulders most of the time anyway... The hotel is directly across from the Matterhorn in DL to give you a perspective for the distance. The rooms were clean and nice, the price was good. Parking was free. The hotel seems quiet enough as well. Because you are at the end of the street, there isn't the madness right in front of your door. We were also able to see the fireworks really well from the parking lot, or from the hot tube in the splash area, so that was pretty cool.

The down side was there was no breakfast. If it is the place that is going to save you $250, that is a lot of breakfast :) There is a Mimi's and McDonald's you will pass right by on your way to the parks. We would also do Pop-Tarts or granolas on morning, or go get donuts somewhere before we head in.

Have a great trip either way!

why do all of theses hotels have to charge for parking don't they charge you for enough fees?

Well I didn't vote in your poll as I have never stayed at the HoJos so I don't think it would be fair, but we did stay at PPI last month. It seems like if you look at reviews for any hotel you will always find some bad reviews, (On tripadviser for instance), and the PPI had some as well, but we had a great time. The room was clean and nice. Micro, fridge, and coffee maker. Staff was awesome. We bought our park tickets from them when we checked in. Breakfast was fine, and nice to be able to get it right there, then walk across the street and you're in the park. Conversely, it was super easy to go back in the afternoon for a nap. I'll qualify my comments though by saying that the water features weren't that important to us, so if a pool etc are important for you and your kids it sounds like HoJo might be the way to go. PPI will also charge a daily parking fee. I know you'll have a great time no matter what!

To make a few bucks of course. But also to keep non-guests from parking in their lot and walking in the park. They also claim they do it to limit guest to one spot so there's enough room for all room guests. I look at it this way; it's cheaper than what Disney charges for parking.

They can't use a pen and paper or lets say an excel spreadsheet to write down or key in the plate number of the cars? Next put up a sign saying if you are not a guest of this hotel and park here you will be towed. Simple as that.
I guess that would be to easy though huh.

i've only stayed at HoJo's so i'd pick HoJos. We were there 4 days few weeks ago and did not think the walk to parks was bad at all. We never came back to the hotel for breaks though...we just had a stroller and kids would nap in that. I don't know, we figured if we were walking at parks 10+ hrs a day, what is an extra 5 minutes, KWIM? It was good for us. also, my kids really loved the Castaway Cove waterpark.

I'm trying to decide between HoJo's and BWPPI as well, for our upcoming 7-day trip in late November. We stayed at HoJo's in July and my DGD6 had a great time in their pool and water play areas. There was only one day during our stay when it was super crowded and there was literally nowhere for me to sit down. I ended up borrowing a chair from a group at a table that had extras, and luckily I had my little UV umbrella with me because I would have fried. But... day after day, for 5 days, doing that walk back and forth 4 times a day plus all the walking in the parks, it started to seem like a very long walk back at the end of the night. My fitbit was on fire, racking up all of those steps! If I knew for sure that the weather would still be in the 80's in late November, I would probably just choose HoJo's and let my feet suffer for the sake of my granddaughter's joy at the pool and water play areas. But if the weather is going to be cool enough that she won't be dying to play in the water, I'd rather go for proximity, even though I'm not a fan of outdoor corridors. I don't really have to make a decision yet because I have reservations at both places. I'm not stressing though, because really, what a problem - which hotel to stay at during a Disneyland trip. I love having this problem. :goodvibes

For our 10-day trip in March 2015 we're doing a split stay between PPH and DLH because we've done GCH twice and I want to experience the other two before picking a favorite. It's these other little budget trips that I spend the most time thinking about. :confused3
