HOJO and area

We've always stayed at DLH. Now may stay at HOJO late October. so what do I need to know about being off site, restraurants, stores, walk et al? (how much would a cab be back to HOJO at the end of the day??????)
Room requests at HOJO? I have read previous posts that say stay away from the freeway, anything else? When to call and make requests? Any advice would be great.

Definitely ask for a non freeway side room. If you pay the slight charge for the theme park view than you should be assured of getting one. As for restaurants, there is MiMi's right next door which is wonderful. Its a chain but they have huge portions served in a very nice atmosphere. I believe its sort of supposed to be like a French country cottage look. They serve all three meals. There is also a diner type place called Millies thats right in the parking lot of the Fairfield Inn, so right next door to the HoJo's. Haven't been there but it seems to get good reviews. They will deliver to your room for a surcharge. Also right there is a McDonalds. Further up towards the crosswalk is an IHOP, Captain Kidds (have never heard good things about that one however) and a Denny's. But I think you cannot beat Mimi's personally. The area is fine, you will feel safe since you will always have other Disneyland visitors going and coming when you are. Even after dark, quite late, you will be fine. You will cross the crosswalk onto Harbor, walk up the street and have non stop motels and other businesses as you head to the HoJo, so no empty, scary spots to walk through. I would think a cab would be less than $10, its a very close walk. About the same as the walk up DTD to the DLH. You can also take the ART shuttle. It picks you up right there at the motel and and then drops you off very near the main gate. Many times we took the ART at night when we were tired and my elderly fil was with us. Sometimes you can walk it in about the same amount of time if you don't hit the stop when a shuttle is there or about to arrive. But again, sometimes its just worth it to ride anyway! Its $3.00 per leg or you can buy a pass that gets you unlimited rides. I think you can buy those passes at the HoJo. They can certainly tell you about ART when you check in. I would request my room location when I make the reservation and then call a day or two before check in. I think you'll really like the HoJo and really like the money you save staying there! We stayed at the HOJO just before Labor Day. LOVED IT. The rooms were huge and the staff was great. You get free internet in your room too. We had a theme park view and no noise. It was great to step out on the balcony and check out the Materhorn before falling asleep.

Our room had a small fridge, but no microwave. I believe I saw a floor plan somewhere that showed they do have some rooms that have both.

The walk was not nearly as bad as some people talk about. In the morning it was nothing, but after a long stay in the park, I suppose I wouldn't want to walk. We stayed at the DLH in December. I would say it felt like a longer walk from the Main Gate to our DLH room than our HOJO room.

I also agree, Mimi's is WONDERFUL. We hit McD's up on our way in to the park and ate on the way.
