Hire Car for 2022

Starting to think about hire cars for next summer - assuming all has calmed down by then and Florida holidays are back on. Does anyone have any thoughts about good deals and when to book - it seems that the US hire car market has been a bit turbulent and from first look prices are through the roof from when we last went in 2019. Thanks!

It's not just hire cars.
The chip supply problem has restricted new car production, so purchase price for the cars is up as well as availability down. Dealers are selling at sticker price and more, which is almost unheard of in the US in recent times, so I doubt the car hire companies are doing any better.

They hope this will be sorted by the end of the year, in which case booking nearer the time when car supply is better might be cheaper.
But some think it will continue through 2022 in which case booking later might mean it is still costly and also hard to find a car at all.
:crazy2:

Might be the time to try a no hire car trip - we usually take a Uber/Car from airport anyway so we don’t have to drive straight after flight so might be the time to use the Uber and Lyft guys?

I had heard from different facebook groups and friends to use Discount Florida Car Hire. I have just made a booking for us £600 cheapest but no deposit and so we can cancel before the balance is due to be paid.

If we don't need to take a test to come home we will probably stick to private airport transfers then disney buses/transport and Uber. I wanted to book the car just incase we still have to take tests to fly home next April/May.

At least with this booking with no deposit If prices come down and we can find cheaper or we don't need the car then I can change/cancel.

This is what I'm considering when I next get out there. To price up roughly what it'll be for the parks/days we're there and then look at car hire fees (can minus parking costs too for the parks which will be a big saver)

I had a quick search and Budget (through BA) have a pretty good deal right now on Group B (Kia Soul) for just over £20 a day for next summer - which seems pretty reasonable considering other prices I have seen - I’ll probably book this when my dates open up next week for mid August return unless I can find better.

We had a big portion of road trip planned for our next trip. If car hire prices are insane it could totally change everything 😱

Someone has already mentioned it but Discount Florida Car Hire seems the best place at the minute. Havnt made a booking with them yet for 2022 but they have gave me some sound advice and explained why car hire is so expensive currently. Sounds like some companys have a shortage of cars so pricing unrealistically to reduced bookings of certain classes, mainly bigger cars 8 seaters 12 and 15 mini buses.

3 weeks ago, i checked prices for our trip next July.
To say the rates were stratospheric would be an understatement.
i'm hoping they'll eventually go down, at least a little.

Same, we should have gone last month, I booked a car in May, just in case and was appalled it was £1000 for two weeks, this was before I’d really read into why there were stock shortages.
I looked last week for next July and they’re even more now 🤮 don’t know if it’s also an added complication that TUI will now be flying into Melbourne, not Sanford - and the hire car setup there 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have booked a car with BA for next July - a large car for 1 week off airport collection with different drop off - £240 inclusive - which I thought was a good deal - 20% deposit. Exec club members also get 1 additional driver free.

wow!!! even a compact car was more than double that. Actually, close to triple. And for the smallest car

Are you all quoting prices with full insurance or just basic 3rd party? Ive booked a car with Virgin for December and at present have just 3rd party insurance on it. Virgin want £950 for the insurance alone. will see what the prices do before we go but definitely considering no car hire (with parking cost etc its nearly £2k for 16 nights.)

BA prices are fully insured with an extra driver if you are in their exec club

When I'm looking on BA for next May the cheapest cars they have for 2 weeks are over £1,000! Think I'll just hold off until nearer the time and consider Uber if the prices don't drop.

Thats what we are doing for December we have booked the car hire and upgrade but they want nearly £1k for insurance. If it doesn't come down before we go we will contemplate Uber.

At the minute if I booked for 2 weeks next year, the car will cost almost as much as four flight tickets, I can’t get over it 😳😂
Needless to say I’m holding off in the hope they come down (wrestled with should I just book so that I may have a car reserved 🤷🏼‍♀️)
