Hip Replacement recovery time

My DH has just been told that he needs a total hip replacement urgently as its as severe as his doctor has seen. The waiting time for this is 3 to 4 months on the NHS (def cannot afford private!) so that puts him in the April bracket.
We are off to Disney on 3rd September and was wondering if he should be fine by then for all the walking involved.
DH is 49 and otherwise fit and healthy so we are hoping the time frame is do-able and he won't need any assistance!
What do you think?

I cant say for definate, but im 99% sure my 83 year old grandad had his in Dec 08 and still made it to Florida in April 09. As i say im not 100% on the exact time frame, but im sure it was a few months

Obviously it all depends on each case but they encourage you to get and walk within hours of surgery!

My father had one in the September and by Christmas he was walking around fine etc

It's not the walking that's the problems it's the sitting. He has to have a higher seat if possible but he also has arthritis so that all has an effect

You may want to pay for extra leg room etc for any flights you book?

thanks guys..I needed reassurance that he should be ok by then. I never even thought about the plane journey though! I have been reading up on things and it looks like he should be back to normal in around 12 weeks from the op. Just have to hope that the waiting list isn't too long!!!!!

Again its only off memory, but I remember on the flights he had the isle on his hip surgery side which gave him easy access to getting up and down whenever he wanted, the key to it not being too sore is moving it about, which is something anyone should do on a long haul flight i suppose!

Your husband will be absolutely fine for Florida!
