Hip Hip Hooray for Christmas Vacation... Disney Style!!! A Dec 2010 PTR

Well, it's great that they think it's nothing serious, but HELLO!!!! There has to be a reason he is in so much pain!!!

Amen!!! :rotfl: Obviously there is something going on if he's in pain!!! Common sense tells ya that much!!! :headache:

No kidding!!! I was kinda hoping we would overlap at Epcot... :rolleyes1 Grey Goose slushy or margarita anyone???

Me Me!!! :lmao: I'll take 2 of each please!!!

Hi DevonsDisneyMom!!!

Your plans look really great!!! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry to hear about Devon & his stomach problems. I can totally relate because I had problems myself for about 3 years before they figured out what was wrong. I am praying that Children's can help him & that he doesn't have to suffer as long as I did.

A little history -- my PCP originally told me that I probably had acid reflux. They tried just about every acid reflux med there was...none of them worked. I was on the meds for almost 2 1/2 years then just finally quit taking them because they weren't helping at all! :sad2: I was a full-time college student & working full-time while all of this was going on...talk about stressful!!! It really does take your focus away from your studies! And its hard to eat. After 3 years of this, I finally got to the point where I couldn't eat anything...literally nothing would stay down (sorry for the TMI). I even tried jello water & would just throw up! I finally was visiting my parents one day because my dad had a severe migraine & I wanted to check on him. I tried to leave their house to go home & was in so much pain that I couldn't even drive my car. I parked it really weird in their driveway because I just had to stop driving. I made it into the house holding my stomach & crying in pain. Luckily for me, my brother walked into the house & I told him he needed to take me to the ER ASAP!!! I was laying there crying in pain. I have never seen him drive so fast in my life...he was on a mission to get me to the ER (this was a Friday). Well, turns out the ER did tests & found out I had about 7-10 gallstones the size of my thumbnail & my gallbladder needed removed ASAP! Not sure why, but they didn't admit me. I went home, made an appointment with the specialist, and had surgery that following Wednesday. They actually tried scheduling my surgery for 3 weeks later. I wasn't thinking straight, I was just in pain, so I said ok. Luckily my mom was with me (cuz I couldn't drive cuz of the pain!) and she said "She can't even drink water, she hasn't eaten in over a week, we need the surgery sooner." So they got me in that Wednesday.

I know that was pretty long, but I like to share my story with just about anyone who mentions stomach problems. I was on meds for 2 1/2 years for something I didn't even have! My gallbladder was close to bursting & if it wasn't for going to the ER that night, I could have had serious complications. Crazy thing happened...my SIL had hers removed 2 months later at the age of 22!!!

Anyway, just wanted to tell you I can totally relate & I am praying he isn't in as much pain as I was in. And I will be thinking of you the day of his appointment, hoping & praying they figure out whats wrong & fix it asap! :)

Also, wanted to tell you that I LOVE the idea of surprising him with the trip! I especially loved how you said you were putting a balloon in the box & it will float out when he opens it...totally made me think of a Disney commercial on tv!!! ;) What a great idea!!! I think the surprise is perfect & I think its funny that you are letting the boys wait to figure out they are going together! It will make it more special for them...I'd love to see the look on their faces when they figure it out! Good luck with keeping the secret...I know what you mean, I am not good at secrets either, especially with Disney. I get soooo excited about going, there is NO WAY I could ever keep it a secret from anyone!!! :rotfl:

Only two of each??? Amateur...

You are a lush!!! :rotfl: :lmao:

Thanks girl!!! And would you beleive that that same thing happened to be with my gallbladder!!! I kid you not!!! I was reading your story and KNEW you were going to say it was your gallbladder! How crazy is that! It took the docs 3 years to figure it out for me too! They had me on all sorts of acid reflux meds and when that did not work they seriously try to say it was depression!!! I thought my mom was going to kill the doctor when he said that!!! Long story short like you it got so bad that my dad literally had to carry me into the ER. Come to find out it was my gallbladder all along. Reason why stones weren't showing up on any ultrasounds, was because it was so bad that my stones actually burst and my GB was filled with sand!!!

Give a Day Get a Day

So I decided before I even booked the trip to Disney that Devon and I were going to participate in the Give a Day Get a Day promotion mainly b/c I think that it would be an excellent way to teach Devon some valuable life lessons! Well when I told him that we were going to volunteer, I was kind of surprised by his response… He actually said to me, “I think that is a great idea Mom. There are kids out there who are not at lucky as I am!!!” How stinking cute is he??? I was so proud! But then the little bugger threw in, but if we are not going to Disney this year, then what are we going to do with the free passes we get? To which I responded… Donate them to charity!!! Well he nearly fell off his chair! Lol!!! Well, I sort of told him the truth, the plan is to donate his voucher to the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Florida and keep mine so we can use the fast pass option at the Magic Kingdom. That’s fair right?

So where are we volunteering you ask??? At an organization here is Philadelphia called Cradles to Crayons. It is a non-profit that basically collects clothes and toys for under-privileged kids in the area. What Devon and I needed to do what organize a clothing and toy drive and drop of our donations ar the C2C warehouse on Saturday April 3rd. We have a lot of stuff so far and I am pretty pleased with our collection. I’ll post pics once I get everything together next week

So there you have it ladies and gents. My good deed for the year!!! Just kidding!

Umm... Wanna hear something crazy girls... I had the same thing happen too...

^^^ Get the freak out of here!!! What are the chances that that would have happened to all 3 of us? Crazy!!! I would if its common??? Guessing it is! Geese!:confused3

My sister in law had hers taken out 3 weeks after my emergency surgery... My surgeon pulled mine out less then 24hours after diagnosing...

get this... Now they think it was the IBS and Colitis, and they didn't need to take it... But honestly, we will never actually know...

THAT IS CRAAAAAZY!!!!!!

What is wrong with doctors? Geez!

Everytime someone mentions "stomach problems" or "acid reflux" I immediately tell them to go straight to their dr or er & DEMAND an ultrasound! :lmao: Some people look at me as if I'm nuts, but now I have proof that its so common of a mistake! Its happened to all three of us! Crazy!!!

what an awesome idea and such a great way to show devon to appreciate what he's got. I try to instill that in my kids all the time. Its sounds like he already knows and is a very appreciative kid. Youve done a good job!

I just found your PTR and am subbing! i think surprise trips are the coolest presents!! Our trip will be a little later than yours, but I am convinced that the holiday season is the best time to visit the World!

I share your frustration about the plane flights. We always fly Southwest, and its hard when they don't publish their flights as early, but they make up for it by the convenience of being able to get credits when the price goes down :thumbsup2 not to mention the lack of luggage fees!

your trip sounds great, can't wait to hear more, and i hope your ds feels better soon!

Hey there!!! :wave2: Thanks for joining in the fun!!! I too agree that Disney is by far the BEST when experinced over the holidays!!! We are so excited, well at least Jenn and I are, since the boys don't yet, about the trip!!!

See, I really have only flew SW 2x, and never to Orlando, so this is the first time that I have to deal with "flight fustrations" :rotfl: !!! Wait??? So SW offers rebates if the price of the airfare goes down before the trip??? Really??? How does that work? That would be freaking awesome!!! :dance3: And yes... No baggage fees is a definate plus!!!

So I come home from work last night, get Devon's school work done and ready for bed, at which time I sit down to start my school work (for those of you who don't know this, I am in my last semester of grad school... 12 weeks left, but who's counting? :lmao: ) and come to find out that my computer is running in SLOW MOTION... Now I could open docs and access my files, but my internet is not working at all... Pages take forever to load, it won't even let me open up gmail and when the pages do finally open, its all out of wack and not formatted right. not to mentions pictures either show up as X's or are only 1/2 loaded!!! :scared1: I am so freaking fustrated!!! I NEED THIS FIXED NOW!!! I ran Malware and it didn't pick up any viruses, so I have no clue what is going on! Mu cousin is going to stop over tonight to see if he can figure it out. Fingers crossed! :goodvibes

On a brighter note, Devon started baseball tonight and he is so SUPER excited. Of course I left my camera at hope so no pics, since I am heading right to the field from work.

So.... If I don't check in until tomorrow you know why!!! My computer will still be busted!!! :confused3

See ya all real soon!!!

Sorry about the computer issues Reese!!! Hope your cousin can fix it easily for ya!! If Terry was closer I would send him over, he is my computer geek...

Good luck tonight Devon and have fun!!!

I know the frustration of the computer mine had a worm on it and took months to get fixed. We finally wiped out everything and started from scratch. It now runs faster than ever. Luckily I was able to get all my pics off.:worship: I hope you are able to figure it out tonight. Good luck.

Ryan started baseball last night too. Its so much fun. I love spring. I know this is bragging but we think he may play for the phillies some day. He is the youngest on his team and he was the only kid who threw the ball from short stop to 1st base and actually hit the coach in the glove. The crowd of parents were like wow that kid can throw. My husband and I just looked at each other like yeah that's our boy. :lovestruc Sorry to brag I usually hate to do it but I had to share my proud mommy moment.

Hope devon is feeling better. This is probably a dumb question to ask but have you tried to cut out all dairy for a few weeks?

This October will be my 8th Disney trip and I have only flown Southwest. My boy friend (I hate that term I am 40 :rotfl:) is in a power wheelchair and they always are wonderful with the chair so we trust them.

As for "credits" if the price goes down, this is way it works. You book your airfare and if your flights get a "Ding" or the price goes down you can cancel the original reservation (I cancel it online, they take forever answering their phones)then book the new rate. You "pay" for the new flight with your original reservation number and what ever is left over can be used for future flights. Always keep the original reservation number if it has credit still on it. You have 12 months from the orginal reservation to use the credit.

Southwest doesn't inform you of the price going down you have to watch out for it yourself.

Ugh!!! I so wish you all did live closer, my cousin was not able to fix the problem, so now I'm most likely going to have to take it somewhere, which I am sure they will charge me an arm and I leg to fix whatever is wrong!!! Not Happy!!!

Oh, and Devon had a great time!!! He woke up asking if he had baseball tonight!! I said boy didn't you listen to what the coach said to you? Practice is next Tuesday!!! :lmao:

I think I might have to do the same thing with my computer! It's crazy one minute its fine the next it isn't. I'm going to take it to some one this week. I'm being cheap, I so don't want to fork over the dough for this!!! :)

Aww!!!! You are so totally allowed to brag!!! That is awesome! Devon actually did pretty well too! At one point he was playing short stop and he made an incredible throw and the coach was like "D@#m that was a heck of the throw" ;)

Yes, I have tried to cut out the dairy, it seems to help some, but still complains regularly. He goes to the GI on 4/19, hopefully they can figure something out!

Oh that is so good to hear, I have only flew SW like 2x's, so I am still a bit confused my this whole credit and ding thing??? :rotfl: How do I know about a Ding? Does SW notify me of a Ding or if a price drops for one of my flights??? Or do I have to monitor on my end? And how do I do it online if that happens??? I'm sorry I am asking so many questions, I just want to make sure I get the credit if one should pop up!!! :upsidedow My cousin is moving to San Fran for his med school residence and I plan to visit in March or April so I wouldn't mind the credit!!

You have to download DING onto your computer. There is info about it here . You have to monitor it on your end. As for getting the credit after you have already purchased flights you cancel the original reservation and rebook at the new rate. You would keep your orginal reservation number because that is where the credit is. You have one year from the date of the original reservation to use the credit.

Thank you so much!!! As soon as my stink computer gets fixed, I will definitely be downloading the Ding!!! Thanks so much. :goodvibes
