Okay I just had to come back and say that I am still beyond excited that you got the pin... I have been hoping for it for the last 2 days!!!

I bet it is so hard to not tell Devon now!!! Are you going to tell him where you guys are staying on Thanksgiving or surprise him when you get there??

WOO HOO!! How exciting! You are going to love the AKL. We just got back from there (we stayed at Kidani though)...you should check out my new TR for some pictures. ;)

Love the Easter pics too. Those Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are so popular. :rotfl:

OMG Toni so am I!!! How crazy is it that I got not 1 but 2 pin codes in 1 day!!! And the fact that I was complaining to you ALL morning yesterday that Disney keeps teasing me with pins that don't work for my travel dates and then I FINALLY got one was priceless! :rotfl2:

And I so wanted to spill the beans last night!!! Of course I was on here looking at all the pictures of AKL and it started getting late, so Devon jumped in bed with me and was looking at them too and was like Mom I wish we could stay there next time that place looks so cool!!! It took every bone in my body not to tell him WE ARE! Plan as of now is to just tell him we are going to Disney on Thanksgiving and not say anything about the resort we are staying at until he asks me! :thumbsup2

SO BEYOND EXCITED! I can not thank you enough for your WISDOM! And to think yesterday morning I was about to boycott Disney! :lmao:

Oh I am so glad you enjoyed it there! I think Devon is going to love it! I so wanted WL! Being I know you are a huge WL fan, which do you think an 8 year olf will LOVE more?

I am so going over to your TR now! I know you stayed in Kidani, but could you recommend a good room location a Jambo House? On my ressie as of now, I just asked for a room close to the elevators and lobby.

Too cute!!! I think he will absolutely love AKL and especially the Savannah View..

So I have an idea... tonight, so the same thing as last night but look at WL pictures... See his reaction and then you will know which one he would like more... If he questions why you are looking just say you are missing Disney and looking at pictures makes you feel better...

While we were there I heard a lot of kids saying how it was so cool watching the animals. One boy in particular who might've been around your son's age said he was glad they were staying there. I think Devon will love it!

When we stayed in Jambo House they were still working on Kidani so our view wasn't all that exciting (the construction must've kept all the animals away!) but it was a great location in being close to the lobby.

Here's a tip too for animal viewing...right around 4:00 in the afternoon is when they bring out the browse for the animals to eat so it's a GREAT chance to see a lot of the animals up close. :thumbsup2

I don't blame him at all... I even told Terry last night that if it was us with the kids, we would be at AKL... Then after we did AKL, we would do WL... They like them both but I think the animals take it over the edge...

I just asked Alec right now and he said AKL for the animals, but we wants to stay at WL for the pool and how col it is a different trip.. Then he asked me if I was taking him... :rotfl: NO!!!

I am so happy about you geting the pin and upgrading. You are going to have such a wonderful trip!!:banana:

Oh cool! Thanks for the heads up about the feeding Sarah! Devon and his friend will love that! I called Disney resevations last night and ask that they out that I request 2Q beds and a room close to the elevators and lobby.... Do you think that would be good? I just would like to be close to the buses really.

Yes, I think in comparing the two that AKL is more kid oriented. The activites that they for the kids to do at ther resort look like a lot of fun! Being an 8 year old boy, I know he is going to LOVE it There!

I am so happy about you geting the pin and upgrading. You are going to have such a wonderful trip!!:banana:

Thanks Tracey! I am so excited I have wanted to stay here and WL!

Hey everyone, now that I have finally come back down to earth after my hysterics of upgrading to the Animal Kingdom Lodge yesterday, I thought I give you a few more details and the changes that this resort switch-er-oo has made…

Ok, so first things first, after visiting Disney World 7 times in the last 9 years, I am over the moon with the fact that I am finally staying at a deluxe resort! Boy, I have a feeling this is going to SO spoil Devon and I!!! But anyway, being that I do not know too much about this resort, other then the fact that it is huge, I really was not sure what area I should make my room requests for, so once I made the switch to AKL, I started to do some research on the resort and decided that I would be pretty vague with my requests. I basically just asked for a room with 2 Queen beds that is close to the elevators and lobby! I hope that is ok? Thoughts?

Now of course, once I got home from work yesterday and Devon’s homework was done, I immediately hopped on Dis to start looking at pictures of AKL!!! Man oh Man is it gorgeous! And the Christmas decorations… Wow!!! I want December to hurry up and get here now!!! After looking at pictures for at least an hour, Devon comes into my room and joins in the fun of looking at pictures and says to me, I really want to stay there next time, that place looks AWESOME!!! Now, you all know that Devon does not know about the trip so as we are looking at the pics he asks AGAIN when are we going back to Disney, to which I replied, I don’t know!!! I wanted to spill the beans so so bad, but I kept my mouth shut, surprisingly!!! He was so disappointed that he goes, “I can’t even look at this anymore, it’s too depressing!!!” I literally almost fell off the bed I was laughing so hard. He is going to be BEYOND surprised when I tell him! :lmao: :rotfl:

I also realized in all of my AKL excitement that I think my itinerary for our arrival day might change up a bit… We had originally planned to go mini golfing, but I think enjoying the grounds for the evening sounds better to me. I want to take in every aspect of the resort. Plus Devon saw that you can get night vision goggles, so I am sure him and his friend are going to want to do that! Hey, I have not problem relaxing by the fire pit with drink in hand! Another item that we have to think about is eating at Boma… Dinner for Breakfast? Keep in mind I am an extremely picky eater!!!

Well that’s all I got for now. Talk soon!

We are at Boma for dinner in 2008 and none of us licked it... :guilty: And Terry is very adventurous with his eating...

I have heard great things about breakfast though and I would have it on my list if we were staying there...

Hope that helps...
:)

I think Devon is going to love it! I so wanted WL! Being I know you are a huge WL fan, which do you think an 8 year old will LOVE more?

could you recommend a good room location a Jambo House? On my ressie as of now, I just asked for a room close to the elevators and lobby.

Hi! We stayed at AKL last year in April & we loved it so much, I convinced some of my extended family to stay there in the summer! We stayed at Jambo House. I have TONS of pictures! We were only there for 3 full days (the other 2 were spent mostly at the airport!) and I wished we would have had more time just to wander around the resort...it is huge! Also, my son was only 10 months at the time so we didn't spend much time in the pool but my family spent a TON of time there & loved it.

To help you with the room, request the 3rd floor...thats the floor that the main lobby is on. We were in Room 3463 & it was honestly PERFECT!!! (We upgraded to a Savanna-view room.) Our room had only 1 king bed, so that might not work for you, but I am telling you, that location was amazing! This is how we got to our room from the lobby...walked up a small ramp, turned right (went past an elevator), and 3 or 4 doors down was our room!!! Talk about convenient! We were literally seconds away from anything we needed...lobby, eating, elevator, mailbox, giftshop, & since you are by the lobby, you can go right outside to the left & you are at the bus stops!!! It was wonderful. If you are on the 3rd floor, you don't have to take the elevator to the lobby since its on the 3rd floor as well! You can take the elevator down to Jiko or Boma (we didn't make ADR's last trip so we didn't get to eat at either). We went down to Jiko one evening & they said it would be an hour & 15 min wait. By the time we were almost called down, my son fell asleep & we didn't want to wake him up (they give you a buzzer & call your room when they are ready for you).

Right beside the lobby, there are also a few "viewing" areas where you can look at the animals. Don't forget to do the "night vision" viewing! We didn't do it & I'm sorry we missed it. We also went back to our resort early the day we went to Animal Kingdom & spent basically the entire evening just sitting outside in various locations. It was so peaceful & the animals are neat to watch. The AK guides are also very informative! There is also an early morning tour that you can do at AK park as a guest of AKL...I didn't know this ahead of time or else we would have done it! I thought it was only for concierge guests (sorry I can't spell that word!). In my opinion, there are definitely lots of things to do just at the lodge! I've actually been reading people's TR's & I'm a little sad we aren't staying at AKL this trip! I tried convincing DH but he wants to try other resorts!

I have TONS of pictures...if you want, PM me your email address & I will email them to you!

As I said, I also convinced a bunch of my family to stay there as well. They had 1 queen bed & a set of bunk beds in their room. They actually loved it & didn't upgrade their room to Savanna-view or King room. I think they were on the 4th or 5th floor? They still spent a ton of time viewing the animals from the viewing areas.

Make sure if you are on one of the lower floors that you let Devon walk across the bridge!!! The kids love that! Its also awesome to take pics from up above the bridge looking down towards the lobby, especially at Christmas time! I've seen some great pics of the Christmas tree from the top floors of the resort!

Overall, we had a great experience there. We had super-fast check-in (I had done the 10-day online check-in before we left). I had tons of questions & the CMs were wonderful with answering them. Our room was always clean & whenever we didn't want Mousekeeping coming in early (because we were still in the room) we just put a sign on the door & they came back later. As I said, when we got back from the park, our room was immaculate! We always had enough towels, soaps, etc. Also, if you go to the pool, you don't have to take towels from your room (or from home! saves luggage space!). We took towels from our room & when we got down to the pool, noticed a "towel return" & a place to get towels as well.

My favorite part of AKL was sitting out on the balcony...in the morning while drinking a coffee or in the evening to watch the animals. But you don't have to be in a Savanna-view room to do this, there are many viewing areas & outdoor areas where you can see the animals.

I loved the gift shop. I spent way too much money there. They have alot of tshirts, keychains, Mickey ears, photo albums, mugs, charm bracelets, stuffed animals, little figurines, pens, bags, etc. They have AKL stuff...I bought a way overpriced hoodie for myself & tshirts for my nephews. They also have a little area with "convenience store items" like milk, ice cream, chips, bandaids, some medicines, toothpaste, crackers, etc. I went down one evening because I needed Pedialite for my son...I can't remember if they had it or not but I remember buying chips & milk & a candy bar. I was actually surprised at what variety they had there...although of course it was pretty pricey!

The first night, I went to the gift shop just to see what they had...then I waited until our last night there to buy stuff. I wanted to wait to see what I bought at the parks first. I do not suggest waiting to buy something if you really want it. I wanted a lime green AKL tshirt they had & it was gone on the last night! I ended up with the hoodie instead & it cost $44.95...I think the tshirt was $15-20 so I could have saved some money. :lmao: Just thought I would tell you about that...I was surprised because we were only there 5 days all together, but some of the merchandise does change (I'm not sure how often). I will email you some pics of my souvenirs from the resort as well!

They also have a small work-out room, arcade, laundry, and childcare area. I think the childcare place does babysitting for kids ages 3 or 4+ so we weren't able to use it, so I don't have much info on that. I heard that the laundry was only for concierge guests, but I can't confirm that for sure. We went to the work-out room briefly & it looked decent. It had tvs, weights, treadmills, etc. It was definitely a better area than most hotels I've stayed in! We also went to the arcade briefly. Its not the greatest, but I think its fun for the kids to go at least once. A friend of mine also reported that her son LOVED the pool! They have a HUGE water slide!

I know alot of people don't like CS restaurants, but we love them. We ate breakfast at Mara almost every morning. It was pricey just for eggs, cereal, etc. but we liked most of what we ate. I'm really picky with breakfast foods, so this is a compliment. My son just ate cereal or a banana so I can't say much about his food! lol We also kept stuff in our fridge in our room for breakfast. I don't remember what all we ate there specifically. I do know there is a refrigerated section with salads, veggies w/dip, fruit, jello, cake, etc. I purchased alot of that for my son & he liked all of it (they were some of his first table foods so I consider that good!) My husband also got the pizza one evening. I can't remember if he liked it or not. :confused3

I have a friend who stayed there & her son is 8 so I will ask her opinion on AKL or WL. I think they are both beautiful especially around the holidays! I will think about other suggestions I have about AKL & will let you know! As I said, if you want tons of pics, PM me your email address. I don't think they're in my photobucket account but if they are, I will just post them on here for you...is that ok? I also did a review of AKL on TripAdvisor. They have info on there as well, so check that out too! I'm excited for you that you got a PIN code!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I also loved all the Easter pics you posted!!! :thumbsup2

Yes, you know that I am a TOTAL Steak and Potatoes girl, so I definitely do not think the dinner at Boma is my taste! :) But like you I have heard really good things about the breakfast! We actually have ressies for the breakfast when we were there in Sept, but canceled the Saturday before we left b/c Yak & Yeti opened up! Yep, I'm thinking Boma one morning, but when? Maybe on our last day? Decisions... Decisions... :goodvibes

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for all the Info!!! I am so excited to stay there and am so glad that you have such good things to say about the resort! Wow! your room location would be super ideal for us! My main concern is that it is two moms traveling with 8 year old boys, and at the end of a long day in the parks they typically fall asleep on the bus and I just want to be able to get them to the room without having a 20 minute walk! That would be a sin! :sad2:

So you liked Mara huh? That is one of my main concerns... I have heard good and bad, like you said about the CS place. But honestly, we will really only eat there for breakfast as most of our ressies are for dinner, and being that you said it is a bit pricey, I am glad we are on DDP then!

So you did online check-in too? we used it in Sept when we stayed at Pop and plan on using it again for this trip as well... Glad to see that things when smoothly at check in and the CM was helpful! I am sure I will have a ton of questions! We are checking in on my actually birthday so I am hoping I will be shown a little extra love! ;)

Yes Yes and Yes I definitely want to see pics!!! if you have them uploaded, I would love for you to post them here! In not, just let me know and I will totally PM you my email!

Thanks again and did I tell you how excited I am to be staying at AKL!!! :dance3:

Hey, followed you over from my PTR.

I'm all caught up now. So excited that you got a pin, I don't think I would stay deluxe without one, but you never know.

I am in college as well, one week to go then 3 years of stretching myself so thin that I'm see through is finally done, so I know how you feel, and I write papers at the last minute too. I have one due Sunday that I haven't started yet :confused3

Sounds like you are planning a lot for Devon's 1st communion party :wizard:

My daughters was last weekend and we had a great time, it's a magical day

From reading what you have planned we might end up in some of the same places at the same time although nothing is set in stone for me yet. I was thinking MVMCP for the Tuesday because that's the day we went last year.

Can't wait to hear more

So you did online check-in too? we used it in Sept when we stayed at Pop and plan on using it again for this trip as well... Glad to see that things when smoothly at check in and the CM was helpful! I am sure I will have a ton of questions! We are checking in on my actually birthday so I am hoping I will be shown a little extra love! ;)

Yes Yes and Yes I definitely want to see pics!!! if you have them uploaded, I would love for you to post them here! In not, just let me know and I will totally PM you my email!

Thanks again and did I tell you how excited I am to be staying at AKL!!! :dance3:

Yes, I would definitely request the 3rd floor! That was our main concern. We knew we would be carrying our son from the bus to our room, so the 3rd floor was ideal!!! Like I said, our room had 1 king bed, so you might want to ask where the rooms are on the 3rd floor with 2 queens. I would just tell them you'd like to be near the lobby/elevator. I'm sure they can accomodate your request! :) Like I said, we literally walked into the resort, across the lobby, down a short hallway, and right to our room! It was probably less than a 2-3 minute walk! It was amazing! Wouldn't have it any other way!

I checked Photobucket & I do have some of the AKL photos on there. I will just add the rest to Photobucket & then post them on your PTR. Are you sure its ok? I don't want to clog up your report with my pictures! I probably have at least 40-60 of the resort so I won't post them all. He he! Let me know what you would prefer...email or post on here.

I really did like Mara. I know alot of people don't like the CS restaurants, but we love them. We actually ate at the parks a few days & ate again at Mara once we got back to AKL. I'll try to look at their menu & remember what we ordered. That might help you.

Did you tell them it was your birthday? You should! They will definitely give you a "Happy Birthday" button & if you wear it to the parks & to your dinners, you should receive extra-special treatment from what I've heard from other people! I think you can go on the Disney website & put your reservation number in & then it will say "What will you celebrate?" and you can choose the "birthday" option. Sounds like a very magical way to celebrate your birthday!!! :wizard:

I had a very exhausting week but I will try to get those photos uploaded & posted for you sometime tonight or over the weekend! You will love AKL & so will Devon!!! I'm so excited for you!!! :dance3:
