Hilton Lake Buena Vista- Palace vs. the resort questions

Ok. I'm really considering both of these DS options..... It's so hard to get a handle of which is preferable.... I know where both are located- which has a shorter walk to the current DS entrance? (I'm assuming it's different from pre-covid entrance?) It appears that the Palace has the nicer pool areas, what is preferable room choice there, tower or Island? Each has it's own shuttle to a park? I haven't stayed offsite in a long while- I'd be using points,and I see they both add a $35 resort fee.... opinions? experiences? thank you
Also- if I'm a Gold hilton member, does this give me any perks at either?

We have chosen the Palace for a one night stay during spring break before moving to our week timeshare. We LOVE the closeness to DS and I have been once and really enjoyed the pool area. I too am confused with what is the better location - Tower or Island. I also believe resort fee is waived if you pay all on points. I am not aware of shuttles during COVID.
