I have searched but can't find the answer. Does anyone know if there are any "municipal" golf courses on Hilton Head Island? If so, how can I find them?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the links, I will check them out.

Good to talk to you!

I'm pretty sure there isn't. There are tons of courses to play, some open to the public, some private only, but they are all "owned" courses, not by the city. IIRC, even the public high school there plays at one of the local semi-private courses. If you're trying to find a less expensive round, there are some courses slightly off island that have the best prices and cater to HH visitors. Pick up the golf book and a couple of coupon books when you arrive and look for the specials. HTH

My husband is a little spoiled by the low golf prices here in Southern Illinois. When he saw the prices at HH, I had to pick his jaw up off the floor. So he wanted me to look for courses that were a little more "wallet-friendly". Thanks for the responses. I keep telling him that he can get information when he gets there for the best rates and so forth. After all, it is off season.

Thanks.

TammyAlphabet.....

Jersey prices are great now..but..you will need to use a hot "neon" colored ball to find it in the snow...Hee Hee!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The least expensive courses run around $50. Kind of makes a day at WDW seem cheap by comparison! There are some nice courses that offer an after 2 pm play discount; also a DVC discount at a couple of courses (but not sure what the total price you have to pay would be).

Thanks so much for the advice. He is just going to have to bite the bullet and play fewer rounds. He might, just might, HAVE to cut out a coupon and use it. This would be a first for him. He won't even stand at the checkout while I use a coupon. He doesn't want anyone to know that the coupon lady is with him! :sunny:

Seneca, maybe I should have sent him to Jersey!!

Get the newspaper in the mornings and look for discount ads. Play after 12:00 noon. Go slightly off island, (Don't worry, you'll only have to go a couple miles).

Off season, you should really have no problem finding affordable golf. You should be able to find green fees in the $35 - $40 range.

Remember, there's A LOT of competition there.

I've played tons of golf there. One time we tee'd off at Old South with a tee time of 12:02 pm. We paid $35 apiece. The people that started at 11:54 paid $115.

Thanks Bob, I will tell him about getting the paper, I think that 35 dollars will be much more in his price range. As for playing after noon, I don't think that will be a problem since I expect that they will stay up playing poker and having a few cocktails at night (old college buddies). They will probably be rolling out of bed around noon. But, for my husband, this will be a much deserved vacation. Thanks for all the suggestions.

If he does decide to splurge, the folks at the check in desk at HH will help him make tee times. DH played a couple of courses in Oct. don't remember which ones, but they made the tee times for him. We're headed back in Sept. and I saved all the golf stuff collected last trip.

We were told about a service called "Last Minute Tee times" where you call the day before and get good discounts. The number is 1-843-689-2262. We plan to try them in June.

Thanks Joellen, I called them, they are open from 7 to 10 p.m. and work with 18 different golf courses. The current rates are 34-50 right now, but will be going up for the spring season. The web site is www.lmteetimes.com. Hope this helps someone out.
