Hilton Convention Center or HoJo?

ahh I'm over thinking, help me!

We have stayed at the Hojo twice before, and loved it both times. BUT, man their rates have gone up! My 6 year old son loves their kid water area though, but the Hilton has a pretty cool kids pool area too! I know the Hilton isn't super close, but they do have ART and the Toy Story Lot is a quick walk away

I'm currently booked at the Hilton for $140 a night. HOJO would be $179 a night.
Pros/Cons for either or both hotels? Is HOJO worth the extra, or should I just stay with what I originally booked?

Hilton is a pretty nice hotel. The only down side is the walking distance. Depending on where your room is, it might take you another 10 minutes or so to get to your room from the entrance of the hotel so keep that in mind.

I've never stayed at HoJo but we stay at Hilton all the time. We're 50/50 whether we walk or take the Toy Story shuttle. Usually walk in the morning and take the shuttle back at night. We just stayed there last month and will be there again for 5 days for the Avengers Half. We like it a lot. The Starbucks in the lobby is handy, the beds are super comfy. The buffet breakfast is pricey but delicious, worth it if you can get it in a package with your room.

I am amazed at how much the Hojo's rates have gone up over the last two years. Just for the price alone, stick with the Hilton and get ART passes. Even with the ART passes, it's still less than Hojo. Plus, Hilton is a full service hotel whereas Hojo is really a motel at hotel prices.

We love the Hilton and it's a much nicer hotel. And while not as extensive as HoJo's, the water play area is still pretty fun for the kids. We use Toy Story to get to and from the parks so no issues there.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll stick with the Hilton.
I tend to overthink when planning these trips haha!

Wow, that seems high for HoJo. We use some of the common discounts for them and book far in advance. We got the rooms for $25 less than what you're paying, and we got superior view. Did you get a suite? They're a little more pricey.

I would imagine with attendance up at DL, all the hotels can increase their price a little. But HoJo has gone way up. Maybe it'll go down now that there's a waterslide hotel right next to it.

I do, too! I don't think that Hojo's is worth $40 more/night. I mean, for $40 less/night at the Hilton, you can get room service.

I'm struggling in the same boat - but it's just DH and I and I have some across the street reservations ( Desert Inn/Camelot Inn) but got such a good rate at Hilton I'm pretty sure we're sticking with that.
I know you're paying for proximity but when you can get those same places 6 months out for half the cost in some cases it seems silly to overpay.

The toy story lot is so easily pedestrian accessible and much better than ART IMO because the buses aren't on a schedule but constantly going and there is much more seating per bus too.
There's a promo for breakfast for AAA that includes breakfast up to four people and a "Fall for Hilton" promotion we took advantage of since we are more rope drop people that includes wifi ( hubby may have to do work on occasion).

They have some other good packages like restaurant daily credit/ hotel resort credit too.
Obviously only you know your child and their needs but being a little older getting back and forth might be okay with the slightly longer trek to Hilton via Toy Story if needed for breaks/naps.
Heck me and DH joke we're getting old because we cannot do commando anymore LOL. That midday break is everything ! And while walking distance is nice , it's also nice taking an air conditioned bus and enjoying the extra comfort of a nice room.

FWIW I booked at the "Fall for Hilton" rate for a king bed Disney View room for Dec. 5th - 12th for $1098 w/taxes. We are flying so no parking fees so that could be a consideration however.

I don't know if you've stayed at Desert before and I know many people like it (though no one seems to rave about it like they do others.) Anyway we stayed there and crossed it off our list. Other than being across the street we didn't like much of anything about it. Clean but dark, outdated room. People smoking along the hallways. Terrible pool! Icky small indoor pool, the area smelled and was very humid. No ammenities (Starbucks, restaurant, etc.) I'd much rather do the Toy Story commute and have a fresh room with comfy beds, a great pool and overall nice digs at the Hilton. I'd stick with the Hilton any day.

No I haven't and for the rate I got it's not anything special - it was more let me grab it in case I want more proximity but yeah going to let that one go anyway. I appreciate the feedback for sure.

To the OP - I totally forgot to mention the new Homewood Suites Convention Center opening. It opens in November and I have a reservation there too so undecided.
But it offers daily breakfast buffet , evening reception of snacks and drinks M-Thurs 5pm -7pm has a movie wall , fire pit area , and has suites too and a full kitchen if that's important.

Rates are rather reasonable and they offer AAA rates. It's also right by toy story lot and their facebook page has great info.

Gosh I love the DIS! Everyone is always so kind and helpful!

I did look at the Homewood Suites, but they aren't taking reservations for my dates. This is probably the last trip where the "kiddie pool" will be that important so I feel like we made the right choice. I looked at my reservations again, I actually have a lower rate, it comes out to approx $140 a night WITH taxes. HOJO is showing me $179 pre-tax for a regular room.
And I agree, I think Hilton comes with added perks. I'm going to re-visit and make sure there isn't a better package to book with the Hilton.

I also think that we wont be making lots of trips back and forth like when he was younger so between walking and Toy Story Lot we should be good. I just need to stop over thinking the hotel and go back to over thinking what I want to eat at Disneyland haha

http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/california/hilton-anaheim-SNAAHHH/offers/index.htm This has all the current offers so you can compare. I used the "Fall for Hilton" for mine and it was really good.

I definitely understand the overthinking..I seriously had like 12 reservations for my dates..LOL.

I'm down to 3 now so that's progress :P

I highly recommend Minnie's breakfast for awesome character interaction if you've never done it !

Thank you!!
I was debating between Goofy's Kitchen and Minnies! We did Mickey's breakfast last trip, and we really enjoyed it. This is my first trip alone with my son, I'm excited because its just the two of us, on our own schedule :)

I've honestly heard such lukewarm reviews for characters and interaction at Goofy's I can't say I'd even do it with just DH and I. I know Surf's Up gets pretty good feedback though :)

We've done Surf's Up a few times. It's gone a bit downhill, in my opinion. It was great in 2012, but we went in May and I wasn't that impressed with the food or the interaction. Goofy's used to be better but now I've heard it's not great since they cut the amount of characters down.
