29th June Day One
Alarm goes off at 3am, have a shower in hope it will wake me up, wake up Jacquie, leave kids till 3:30, we forgo breakfast, taxi arrives at 4am on dot. Taxi driver is an acquaintance known over years and also a big Orlando fan so we chat about the sunshine state on journey. We arrive at Glasgow airport about 4:45, pay fare and head for fast bag drop as I had checked in online day before, but its not open so we join normal queue, the queue is pretty big and only two desks open, at 5am fast bag drop opens so we switch queues and by 5:10 we are on our way. We head on up to gate but are distracted by the Celtic store and its special offers, and so the shopping begins
,Stephanie and Jacquie get tops one each on a BOGOF, Danny gets a new hat on proviso that he wears it on holiday and if he doesn't then he pays for it himself, I also buy two pairs of binoculars for viewing the shuttle launch (they where on offer at half price) so £45 down we head through security with no problems. We have a 30 min wait till boarding. We take off 5 mins late, breakfast is served bacon, sausage, mushroom, scrambled egg & fried tomato, with fresh OJ & coffee and tasted quite nice. We arrive at 7:30am but wait 15mins for transport to gate, wait another 20 mins for our luggage, then on to the transit terminal to get to south terminal, first monorail breaks down so we get off and wait for the other one
by 8:25 we are at Virgin area, think the flight was almost as quick from Glasgow,Approached virgin staff at check in machines as system wouldn't let us do online check in night before, but she can't check us in here either as it wont let her but she still directs us to bag drop desk and tells us to explain to them what's happened, check in clerk is helpful and within 20 mins we are on our way through security.
No problems going through security although it is busy and takes 15 mins, once inside we secure seats, then me and kids go browsing I get some duty free alcohol 2 for £15 couldn't resist
,try a pimms sample and snow queen vodka distilled 5 times and lovely design on bottle, Jacquie gets a present of toffee's and chocolate, Stephanie gets a book and Danny gets a world cup mini football with a free pump.
Boarding for plane was on time and planes name was Hot Lips, we where among first to board among economy as we where near back of plane, Danny because of his size I think was given a kids pack as we boarded, we had row 60 A & C & row 61 A & C there was quite a large gap between our seats and the window so that u could stretch out during flight which was good, once onboard captain announced there was a delay due to a problem on runway, this turned into an hours delay due to backlog of other aircraft, I filled in the visa forms during the delay.
After take off, drinks came promptly, I had a whisky & coke the tribe had soft drinks also we all received Worcester sauce pretzels with drinks, I watched Syria (think thats the name George Clooney film) and Matador both very good films, kids and wife slept in between watching some TV.
Dinner was Roast beef, veg & roast potatoes or Chicken with pasta or mushroom risotto, I had the beef very nice and tender. Jacquie had the chicken and pasta as did Stephanie both said it was good, Danny managed to get a spare child's meal which he liked sausages plus other goodies, all adult dinners also had a pasta salad for starters, cheese & crackers and a luxury mini chocolate pudding cup (very rich) & a mini chilled bottle of water I also had a nice merlot with mine.
During flight we received strawberry & vanilla ice cream bars & fresh juice, also during flight we could go to galley at anytime for juice etc during flight, found the staff friendly and helpful, near the end of the flight we had a choice of chicken or cream cheese sandwich which came with a Cadbury chocolate bar or mini cheddars, both type of sandwiches where good.
We arrived at 4pm local time only 30 mins late but a bumpy landing, cleared customs by 4:35 thanks to using Dibb tip about line next to US citizens although our immigration officer was highly suspicious about fact we where returning with 2 months of last visit, but she still let us through, had too wait awhile for luggage on second time pick up, we where on Mears coach by 5pm though, after waiting for others we left MCO a little after 5:30pm. By 6:30pm we where in our room at QII no 3412 on the 4th floor thank god for lifts.
While Jacquie unpacked, I went to buy trolley 14 day passes at $16 each, Danny had picked where we where eating McD's not exactly fast food at 20 mins wait 1 Double cheese burger meal, 1 Big Mac meal, 1 Big Mac, Chimichanga heard about this on meet the Fockers
, ($23) food bill and it was good but thought serving set up was a joke.
We then got trolley to SW to get kids passports activated, major moan coming up, why have a park open till 10pm and only 1 person at guest relations we waited nearly 40 minutes to get passes, got into SW a little before 9pm, Jacquie decided I needed a free beer to calm me after the wait ( I had hurt my foot before leaving so standing on it was pretty sore at times), after a couple of Amberbock's I was suitably chilled and bought myself a Bud ice bucket for hotel and taking home
while we waited for Mystify to start Danny got a chocolate waffle cone wasn't quick enough to get a picture, Mystify was great
Taxi back to QII $12 incl tip worth every penny as we where knackered, we got some juice from hotel shop at $2.80 pricy but it was close, filled my bud bucket with ice from machine on floor below as we didn't have a machine on our floor, but we did have the washing machines, I had a whisky and coke while writing up my notes on pda, family where sound asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow
