OMG! My son got his acceptance letter today from Carnegie-Mellon!He doesn't know it yet because he isn't home yet, but he is going to be SO excited! I know it is an acceptance letter because it says "Get your kilt on!" on the front. (Their mascot is the tartans)
That's the GOOD news, the BAD news is, a postcard also came saying that the 2011-2012 school year will cost approximately $57,200!!!
He'd better hope he got a TON of financial aid or he will not be going.

also, as i see that everyone is talking about financial aid and how some of the better schools or kids' top choice schools are more expensive than you thought, i strongly suggest asking your child to transfer from a cheaper school after 2 years. they can get intro and gen-eds out of the way and save a ton of money. for example, the mom who talked about their child getting into hopkins for bio engineering: start off somewhere cheap, keep grades up, and then transfer to finish up.

MinkyDog, how did your DD's audition go?
minkydog - please do let us know about the audition, minkypup/your DD has been in a lot of people's thoughts & prayers.
DD got some good mail from one of her universities yesterday...we already knew she was accepted but this was for aid.
Wow. Just WOW. Of course now we'll have to make a campus visit since this particular school has moved up a notch or two.
The last two schools don't give out acceptance/aid decisions until sometime in March....auuuuuuuuuugh.
agnes!
As we left the auditions, DD & her friend who went with us(who also auditioned) were saying how nice everyone was, how they got some new facebook friends, and how comfortable they both feel at this school, like they already belong there.Music to my ears.
They said they will be making decisions in the next few weeks. Probably won't know about the scholarship until April. Even if she doesn't make the cut for their Musical Theater program (they only take a limited number), she can still major in theater and participate in musicals, and try again next year.

We just got home around 3pm. The auditions went well. The judges were warm and welcoming. They did a 2hour dance class, followed by audition. Then later they did their ballad & up-tempo numbers, and their monologue. I'm glad I was there to run errands, cuz DD forgot her music ANd her outfit & boots at the hotel! The auditions were closed, but we could hear through the door. I tried to concentrate on my book, but i could hear everything. I think I was more nervous than she was!

That sounds great! That is where you were hoping she would want to go, right? Good thing she liked it and if a friend is going, it will make it all that much easier.
Yes, this is the school that has been the best fit from the start. Valdosta State has *everything* she wants in a college AND it's affordable. It has taken her awhile to get on board with the whole going-to-college thing, but i think she's there now. It helps that we took her and 9 of her drama friends to VSU back in November. Her drama club teacher graduated from VSU, so he hooked them up with fine arts connections and a really good campus tour. In fact, as a result of that trip at least 4 other students have applied & been accepted. This trip was really nice, though. Even though she and her friend were both tryinout for the same thing, they were fully supportive of each other. They seemed relaxed and knew their way around campus this time. Of course, it helped that the weather was bee-you-ti-ful--78 degrees and sunny. I think they were able to picture themselves as students this time.Which is funny, because back in November DD was digging in her heels and never wanted to leave home!
Sounds perfect, especially the affordable part. Really, though, it's a feeling they get that says "this is the place", isn't it? When will she hear the good news? I'll keep my fingers crossed for her.
